I live in a townhouse, with a garage underneath. I used a horse stall mat like this as backstop in the garage. I just hoisted it in place and used carriage bolts to hang it from the studs. We're using 30 lb bows at about 10 yards. Our DIY target is about 4 inches thick with combination of closed cell foam and cardboard. So far, we've never penetrated the mat far enough to hit the drywall over the studs.
I made one of these last year after watching your video. It works good! Its caught a few arrows that I missed the 3d deer so far. Shooting a Prime Centergy Hybrid at 65lbs. I couldn't believe how damn heavy that horse stall mat is, it was tough to bolt up to frame with just my wife and I. Definitely hard to pull the arrows out of it compared to how yours came out. Thank you for sharing
Awesome video. I have been searching for a suitable backdrop material and that rubber stall Matt is ideal for my requirements and traditional bow speeds.
Great backstop for someone who knows how to shoot. One with more height will stop those accidently high, over the target shots. My backstop is about 8 ft high, hanging a foot above the ground. Thank you to posting this video~
I did something similar. About the same size, though abit taller. I used 4 sheets of fairly heavy shade cloth about 4-5 inches apart just free hanging with an old carpet rug free hanging behind them. Since it all moves freely move when impacted it catches them gently. Like a tennis ball at a sheet on a clothes line. I set it up for my kids, but it catches arrows from a 65lbs compound aswell. Not sure if it would catch broadhead or not, never tried.
I tried using quarter inch plywood as a back stop. the fletch on all my miss shots and their is a lot sense I'm new at this so now I'll learn how to reflech my arrows to
Nice video! I'm gonna make something like this in the Spring, so we can shoot in our new backyard...wish I had something like it at the old place...think there might still be an arrow in the woods somewhere... I see your chickens skipped the safety meeting just like ours, LOL.
AS REAL AS IT GETS , my bow is set at 70 pounds and it stops the arrows with no problem at 20 or 30 yards. I haven’t had an arrow go completely through yet. Good question, thanks.
Nice backstop! but I have to say only an idiot would shoot along a blind corner of your house just hope nobody walks around the corner. I guess a family member would stop an arrow too.....
Very jealous, Not even allowed to use a bow outside of an approved target range here (Hunting is illegal too) even if you were allowed to have a range on your land the legislation on all the requirements is nearly impossible to navigate and understand, but that is okay, because you must pay someone $$$$$ to make it for you (because they have the bit of paper that says they can do it) One example, you need a MINIMUM of 50m behind the target for overshoot that is on your land and fully signed as a restricted area.. as well as similar signage on your perimeter fences PLUS either a red flag and "Shooting in progress" sign or a red light (with a bunch of rules on how many blinks per minute it has to flash at) with a "shooting in progress" sign. You need "baffles" to prevent a shot from going beyond your backstop from the firing line in any position, and if you have multiple firing lines they strongly advise (do everything possible to force) you totally roof the range. Welcome to Australia, the "Lucky" country. Edit: oh yeah, if somehow the arrow makes it off your property the best you can expect is a trespass charge (not for getting the arrow, but because the arrow trespassed) and possibly disturbing the peace, discharging a weapon without due care and anything else you could think of.. maybe property damage charges too.

Thank you for this video. Been trying to find something to stop arrows when missing the target. Definitely making one of these
finally a video that actually shows the horse mat stopping an arrow. Thank you for the demo!

We built one last night also. thanks for the idea . good luck this season
Nice, good demonstration of the effectiveness of the matting to stop an arrow.
Looks good!! I will be building this soon!! Thanks for the video.
That mat is just what the boys and I need.. Old Conveyor belts work well too but hard to find that wide. Nice vid, thx

Great Idea!! just lost two arrows today. I will definitely be making one of my own.
Where could I find the metal framing? Also what chest pack is that, I’ve been searching for one like that with no luck. Thanks for the great video.
Great idea and it's huge. Gotta try this. Thanks for sharing.

Wonder if it would stop a crossbow going at 400 fps. Maybe double it up with maybe 4 inches in between. Thanks for sharing.
Hey awesome job on the backstop! Wanted to ask ya, what harness do you have on?
I heard chickens stop arrows really well
Great Idea!
WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE SHORTS!!?? I NEED THEM!!!!
What is the pack you are wearing in front? I am new to hunting.
I have the same mat on the backside on my target. Have you had issues with your field tips coming out when you remove the arrow from the mat?
This is a thin one, there are bigger ones, great idea
Has anyone tried cutting it up, and stacking it to make a range style target?
What about at 20 yards? The Majority practices at 30 yards or less & I don't see the backstop performing as well at the closer distances.

nice job brother. Going to use this for sure
What tactical vest is that ? Someone please help
Thank you for sharing
Looks good. Gonna have to try it.
That's awesome!!
I like it👍
That looks great!
Nice!
Nice range too, when you miss you still get dinner😉
How would this perform as the target self?
Tought about some old car tires to try!
Good idea. Damn fine shootin" at 60+ yards on a windy day too.
Good job man.
is there a less heavy, canvas like material i can use instead?
PEPPERS I also was looking for something not as heavy but couldn’t find anything. You might find something at Home Depot or at a lumber store.
Nothing in that price range and size.
Great idea.
What type of Mat is it ? Where can ya get one ?
Ricardo Estrada I purchased it at Tractor Supply, it is called horse mat.
Whereabouts in Texas is this guy from?
South Texas
Also, 45? for all that rubber sheet! got to be worth at least 10 times that in AU..
You should hang your block target to put it in the middle of the backstop so if you shoot low you don’t hit the ground
the ground is free backstop you don't have to change
Pretty good idea
Great idea
Have a similar set up...i hang my target... A. So im not aiming down. B. If i miss low im not in the dirt..
I see some moving targets lol
It’s awesome.
What kind of arrows where you using. You said gold tip. But which ones?
The arrow's are gold tip Kinetic Pierce 300 platinum
Good job
Great vid
Hey you look familiar how's your lip?
No chicken where harmed in this video..lol
Look's good, thanks for the info!
Nice backstop! but I have to say only an idiot would shoot along a blind corner of your house just hope nobody walks around the corner. I guess a family member would stop an arrow too.....
Maybe he lives alone? Or maybe his family members knew what he was doing and were smart enough to stay away? So nice calling someone an idiot.
awsome thanks
I cringed when I realized you are walking around the chicken yard in bare feet.
Hahahahha
Stopping the long blade
I’d rather see you do it at 20 yards. At 65, it’s lost most of its energy
Same here, It went pretty far in at the 60-65 yard range and I wonder if it will go all the way to the vane at 20 yards.
Yeah right, and try it with a crossbow putting out 370 ft./s
Just double or triple the mat. It'll last forever.
Uum, uuum, uuum, uuuuuuum. Aagh aaagh. Uum. Haha

Jezz.........
That my friend is what happens when you let the government control your life.
It stops it at 60+ but dors it stop at 20 or 30 yards
Thanks for replying, I haven’t had an arrow shoot through at any distance. Stops them dead.
If one won't do, keep adding till you stop them all. I assure you that it won't take many. Those mats are tough.
