    Sir, with no intention of being rude or disrespectful; I do not have a ton of experience with climbing and rappelling.
    But I believe that with the Super 8, the reason the rope could have slipped up and locked itself out via friction, was because you did not lock the line in at the bottom of the Super 8. The carabiner shouldn’t allow that bight to move like you displayed.
    It’s still a good example of being cautious when rappelling down from anything.
    Thank you for the Swiss seat demonstration

    It's prepper material if u live in an apartment. I need to know if these rope are expensive.
    But i wanna see if you can really seat on it like a proper harness.
    Your friend had proper harness tho...

      A quality rope will run about $1.00 a foot.

    For those who are watching it after the posted date. If you have a regular figure 8, clip a second locking gate in the loop of the rope and the 8. It will keep the rope from sliding up. I’m not a fan of the rope loop, locking and figure 8, in the same position.

    I've been practicing so many different types of knots everyday. Buying prepping gear. Everything possible! Correct me if I'm wrong? But knowing how to climb safely and descend safely can save you in emergency? Not to mention emergency shelter? Any reply appreciated cheers from Australia just subbed.nice work 🙂👍👍👍👍. Your vids are excellent.

    Great video , thanks for info it's been at least 10 yrs since i've used a Swiss seat, I've never used a rescue 8 , but it makes sense and seems alot safer, I used to put brake line between my leg then behind my leg though in case I lost footing a spun around

    Ok cool, so what do I do if there is no anchor points pre drilled for my rope? What knot should I use so I can get my rope back. Once I'm on the ground?

    • @PrepperAction
      @PrepperAction  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Try this web site, www.climbing.com/skills/improvised-rappel-anchors/ You actually can do a full length rap on a single rope and retrieve the rope if you have a thin diameter pull cord (5mm) that is equal length. Look up "knot blocks" and "biner blocks" and big honkin knots. That's how you pull it off with a pull cord.

    If your 8 rolls and locks you just take your tag line tie a prusik with slack loop to your 8 above your 8 then run a loop down to your foot and tie another prusik above the 8 then back Down to one of your carabiner..... Stand in the loop fix your 8 untie everything and continue.... Prevent the roll lock out by clipping into your carabiner.... I use rock exotica mini 8 it has ears is very compact and light... Lean to self rescue

      It is not problem. We will get to it another time. Keep the great videos coming. I appreciate the logical non-thrill junky approach you take to demonstrating so many essential skills. I look forward to the next video.

    I just did this with Swiss seat and figure of 8 about 10 times, going over some of these lips and edges definitely gives me the heebie jeebies! Just bought a real harness! Will continue camping around rappelling until comfortable I have every jot and tittle down.
    P.S. Somebody below mentioned an "encyclopedia" of Knots, whatever works, but for me and where climbing is concerned, where your life depends on these knots a more limited number of knots, but knowing them very well works for me. TH-cam is very good way to learn these knots and techniques Try to stick with people who actually do rappel and climb as opposed armchair authorities.

    Thanks, been a while since I made a Swiss seat... with the figure 8 with ears you can also tie yourself off while rappelling with the tag line in your brake hand

    You are supposed to tie above hips below ribs right so you can't fall out

    That swiss seat looks like a great way to castrate yourself. Anywhere I go with a rope I'd trust with my life, I have harness. I think that when it comes to survival, you can't go wrong with comfort.

    What type and size rope do you use?

    • @PrepperAction
      @PrepperAction  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Hocus13yola The rope that made BlueWater famous, this is the standard for use in caving, rappelling and rescue applications. Its design of double-twist cabled sheath strands as well as double twist cabled core strands is truly the most unique and exacting rope design anywhere. These factors make it the best all around choice in a static/low elongation rope.
      Tensile Strength: 7420 lbf

      Prepper Action thank you for the reply and for that info, going to look into that rope, for now I bought the blue water assault line 11.4mm kernmantle and have the black diamond super 8, just doing my research before I actually start rappelling, and your videos really help once again thank you

    watch the video out of curiosity, as a sailor, I have to admit you did a good job with your Swiss seat, definitely safer than a Spanish bowline.

    Watching him so concerned and nervous and geared up for a 65 foot angled rock face makes me wonder why I wasn’t terrified by the one at basic training. They just made it out to be totally no big deal. 100 foot completely vertical wall. Scared the shit out of me but they were just like hey after this 5 minute brief and watching the air assault certified drill sergeant do it once with no explanation you can do it too, just DONT LET GO. Lmao could have been bad but was fun looking back on it
