Dustin, you can cancel the landing on Flight Plan. Switch to the FPV and select "Cancel" at the bottom of the screen. This will abort the landing sequence and you will be back in control. I am not sure if you can stop it before it starts the landing sequence.
That was awesome. I guess you don't have to fly line of sight there. You really have know what your doing to program those automated flight sequences and have a lot of trust in your equipment. Good job, looking forward to seeing more flights from PARROT DISCO.
I've been showing this video to a friend and just out of curiosity we got out the maps (and then Google maps just to check). As far as I can tell, at your furthest out, it was over 3.5 miles away from the take-off point? Over the ocean!! If so I want to upgrade my previous comment. That isn't merely impressive it is absolutely awesome!!!

That was a good flight , I’ve been keen on the disco for a while now and that is the best flight plan so far, I probably wouldn’t have gone around the island so many times but it handled fine , the battery is the 4000 or 3100 mah any glad you never lost this one lol
Great flight Dustin. This bird seems to have a great AIO OSD FC board setup. Would love to remove the innards and place this in a more robust platform such as a full size Drax or a Volantex 2000.
Dude love your videos. Watched the one where you lost your Parrot and you were so chilled and relaxed. I am thinking in video the weather is overcast which means low pressure, this is likely why the reception was better as waves travel further with less loss in covered conditions. Wow! So Just yesterday I was out in Bestbuy looking at the quads and something told me not to buy it and to do more research. So I came home came to TH-cam, did a query and you popped up. Today, I saw this video and I was sold! So today I was browsing the web and I saw that one of my local electronic stores had it in stock. I bought it right away and for the same price as the amazon price. Took it for a spin today and was amazed! I love this thing. I plan to make cool videos like this one day!

Your flightplan was already finished so unable to stop circulair landing. You only had to return to FPV and cancel circulair landing by tapping the bottom screen to take control. Job done!

I am not real knowledgeable about the Disco, I have been watching your videos and was just wondering, if the drone gets way out there and the wind shifts,and you realize it may not have enough juice to complete the programed course, can you tell it to return to home, the shortest route possible ...does it have a return to home button ? Will it override the programed course and come straight home ? I know this is 2018 now a couple years later , maybe there have been some upgrades by now....
If your on an auto mission and out of controller link range, no. It will just continue on it's mission until the battery dies and it lands. If your within range, yes. You can press return to home and it will abort and return.
So if you are flying legally with the drone in sight at all times, then return to home should work.....But these flights were not in sight at all times, were they ? With a drone like this it is very tempting to fly way far away and out of sight, but unless they have some special law to cover them, a legal no no ....Great videos though...
Hi Dustin, some people have been mentioning a 3500 meter range limit hard-wired into the Disco for Flightplan. Did you have to change any settings (other than turn Geofence off) to go beyond 3500 meters? Maybe it has to do with what version of the app and plane firmware people are using??? Which version of the app and plane firmware are you using?
+AceNinja2112 I've heard reports of this also but nothing official. My firmware hasn't been updated since I did that 5200 mAh flight test in the clouds. Are the reports coming from people that really know how to operate it? If geofencing is on, it will do that even in an auto mission.

Hey Mike. It's a great plane. Still love using mine. In the profile mission view, you drag the cam icon down in between 2 waypoints and adjust the angle. Remember to make another waypoint when you want cam to go back forward. Basically waypoints start the camera command but it won't go back to default 0 degree automatically 👍
Brilliant as always! How do you work out how high to set altitude for waypoints? Is it just guessing (a value that should clear ground obstacles) or you use maps showing elevations etc?

Great video. I think you probably have the best Disco coverage of anybody on TH-cam. One thing that worries me is the height during autonomous flight. The heights always seem to be a bit off to me, seems like the initial takeoff position is also always deemed 0m regardless of the height it might actually be. Seems like that with DJI products to me as well, but at least the obstacle avoidance on the new ones seems to work well. Personally I would be scared to send it on another lowish altitude autonomous flight, but either way it did perform wonderfully outside of the lack of being able to manually control at the end (though the landing was truly about as perfect as possible, hard to tell if you got incredibly lucky or if with the right amount of open space the disco is capable of performing perfect landings on its own). Either way, your reviews show it's a pretty decent product as long as you use it appropriately, carefully, and in wide open spaces.
+foaloal well said. Yes, altitude is registered at 0 upon launch no matter what elevation above sea level so planning the flight altitudes and researching heights of terrain and obstacles is a must. Some kind of lateral obstical avoidance for the DISCO 2 would be awesome but may be difficult to react in time since it needs momentum to fly unlike multirotors. It sounds like some comments are indicating there may be 2 ways to take over before an auto landing which I will try to test. Overall the DISCO is a very impressive craft for a first generation from PARROT which I find can be pushed and trusted.

Shouldn't it have triggered the return to home function function when it went out of contact with the controller? How did you managed to keep it going after it lost contact?
+Santiago Jauregui Oderda When in manual flight, yes. This is a pre programed flight so it will try to complete the program unless it hits something or runs out of battery power.

Hey sorry, been busy. You might try something like the AOSENMA CG035 It's cheap at around $100 and still has brushless motors for longevity and GPS. Practice flying line of sight until you really get confident in your orientation 👍

Nice mod and video. If you want to stop the FlightPlan you press the camera feed window in the application which takes you into the FPV and control screen and vice-versa to go back.
I work on global hawks (RQ4), this is not unlike how a global hawk functions, the major difference being there is a $400 million aesa strapped to the bottom of it. I think if you could change the camera out for something higher quality and maybe up the endurance/range this could have real world use.
Loved the flight, was impressed by the autonomy when you lost signal, was deeply impressed with the autonomous landing but, like you wasn't impressed at all when you couldn't control the landing. That has to be checked on a later flight to see what you can do in an emergency and whether you can take over at any point. Otherwise you would have to only land autonomously in a controlled area. Possibly a tad more height needed in flight plans to allow for passing yachts :)
+didactylos4 diddy4 Thanks. I'm hearing that pushing the physical land button may have cancelled the auto landing and put it in loiter and also if you don't create an auto landing point it will just loiter at the end waypoint waiting for input. Time to test :)

Parrot told me that the only way to abort the landing sequence is to press the landing button. I haven't tried yet.
I don't understand why parrot products get such a bad reputation. They are highly sophisticated drones that perform well. I know that some people who are used to like a dji inspire would definately see some bad aspects but the footage from this drone is incredible and breathtaking. Great video Dustin!
Awesome video, you certainly trust your gear! FPV racer Charpu has a saying "Don't fall in love with your drone, because you will destroy it." One day your Disco may not come back, but in the mean time please give us more like this...
Hi, I tried the battery you used. However I noticed it was flying lopsided and also it was going much faster, it was as if it was flying at max speed the while time (to keep stable), and because of that the bigger capacity battery was actually draining much faster than the other lighter one. Did you run into anything like that? Landing also was hard because of the increased speed.
I did a manual flight. I'm thinking maybe the top may not have been closed perfectly, as I remember it was a tight fit (might need more cutting). Seems a likely cause.
truly amazing flight in an amazing location. phenomenal job on the video and review. curious with the 1 mile advertised range, how'd you get over 3 miles out and still have connection before it dropped? was that all stock antennas and transmitters? Also, on your automated landing, I wonder if you toggle the left stick if it would bring it out of auto land and restore manual control or if pushing the the auto land button would disengage it. once again, great video!
Pretty cool. Reminds me of my RC Glider days, flying 2 meter and 3 meter gliders .. you could stay up forever .. just limited to how long your radio battery would last. Weak point is the video/picture quality (compared to either a Go-Pro/clone or DJI 4K cam). Interesting that Amazon has it below Parrot's official price of $999 (which other dealers are selling it at). A few close calls, but it survived to fly another day. Perhaps when you get the larger battery in, you can fly to one of the other islands and back. I wonder if there are 3rd part control packages for it (like Litchi is for DJI). Haven't really checked. I will say though that it being fixed, no moving parts, able to pitch, and having EIS is probably no easy feat and I honestly can't say I've seen anything else like it. Congrats! This was an autonomous pre programmed flight. Not sure if parrot still charges for the app add-on but you'll see it in the app if you need to purchase it.

I heard something about toggling off the Geofence when landing to gain control??...Don't know if it has anything to do with the Waypoint function. Do you live there?
Awesome as always. I took advantage of the 799 price at amazon. I guess it's my Christmas present. Also, I'm reading that if you turn geofence off you can defeat the minimum and maximum altitude restrictions.

it only has one light on the top power button so already very stealth. you could cover that for complete stealth

Brilliant as always! How do you work out how high to set altitude for waypoints? Is it just guessing (a value that should clear ground obstacles) or you use maps showing elevations etc?

Great video. I think you probably have the best Disco coverage of anybody on TH-cam.
One thing that worries me is the height during autonomous flight. The heights always seem to be a bit off to me, seems like the initial takeoff position is also always deemed 0m regardless of the height it might actually be. Seems like that with DJI products to me as well, but at least the obstacle avoidance on the new ones seems to work well.
Personally I would be scared to send it on another lowish altitude autonomous flight, but either way it did perform wonderfully outside of the lack of being able to manually control at the end (though the landing was truly about as perfect as possible, hard to tell if you got incredibly lucky or if with the right amount of open space the disco is capable of performing perfect landings on its own).
Either way, your reviews show it's a pretty decent product as long as you use it appropriately, carefully, and in wide open spaces.
+foaloal well said. Yes, altitude is registered at 0 upon launch no matter what elevation above sea level so planning the flight altitudes and researching heights of terrain and obstacles is a must. Some kind of lateral obstical avoidance for the DISCO 2 would be awesome but may be difficult to react in time since it needs momentum to fly unlike multirotors. It sounds like some comments are indicating there may be 2 ways to take over before an auto landing which I will try to test. Overall the DISCO is a very impressive craft for a first generation from PARROT which I find can be pushed and trusted.
How did he get outside of the geofence? Will it automatically let you cross the geofence when you use the FreeFlight Pro app?
Option in the app allows you to turn off geofence.

Hi Dustin, I will be visiting Big Island Hawaii in August from Australia. I want to take my disco there as well. What rules and regulations do I need to follow? Do you need a license or approval of any kind for hobby flight? Would love to film along the coastline and maybe capture some lava flows. Is this possible being a national park?

Just standard registration and basic rules. They mark "no fly zones" immidiately around lava activity since helicopters have dibbs 🙄🍻.
I downloaded the us B4ufly app that has been pretty handy for info. Another question. What would be better suited to take a bebop 2 or disco? Ive got both but i really am unsure what would best suit our trip for that area.

Shouldn't it have triggered the return to home function function when it went out of contact with the controller? How did you managed to keep it going after it lost contact?
+Santiago Jauregui Oderda When in manual flight, yes. This is a pre programed flight so it will try to complete the program unless it hits something or runs out of battery power.

Hello Dustin! very exciting your flight over the sea. I have a question please ... during the planned flight you can control the disco yourself with the pegs ... what do you do if you take them off the planned route ... will you find your way back to the planned route? ?
If it's in the middle of a mission, it will keep flying previous mission until you cancel it and play new edited mission.
The disco then finds its way back to the last planned homepoint and lands on the previously planned runway..??

I want something with a controller so i could get used to using a controller. I don’t have any piloting experience. My mavic pro is my first ever RC drone. GPS might help just in case I lose it. 😊

It's cheap at around $100 and still has brushless motors for longevity and GPS. Practice flying line of sight until you really get confident in your orientation 👍

Did you have connection and try to press the land/launch button on Controller?
Nice mod and video. If you want to stop the FlightPlan you press the camera feed window in the application which takes you into the FPV and control screen and vice-versa to go back.
+John Narey Thanks, are you certain about that? I accidentally when into the FPV once in another flight and it kept on its waypoint mission.
I work on global hawks (RQ4), this is not unlike how a global hawk functions, the major difference being there is a $400 million aesa strapped to the bottom of it. I think if you could change the camera out for something higher quality and maybe up the endurance/range this could have real world use.
Loved the flight, was impressed by the autonomy when you lost signal, was deeply impressed with the autonomous landing but, like you wasn't impressed at all when you couldn't control the landing. That has to be checked on a later flight to see what you can do in an emergency and whether you can take over at any point. Otherwise you would have to only land autonomously in a controlled area.
Possibly a tad more height needed in flight plans to allow for passing yachts :)

+didactylos4 diddy4 Thanks. I'm hearing that pushing the physical land button may have cancelled the auto landing and put it in loiter and also if you don't create an auto landing point it will just loiter at the end waypoint waiting for input. Time to test :)
Parrot told me that the only way to abort the landing sequence is to press the landing button. I haven't tried yet.
With regards to it being locked out, what with the padlock icon (top left on tablet) being locked, does that make a difference?

I don't understand why parrot products get such a bad reputation. They are highly sophisticated drones that perform well. I know that some people who are used to like a dji inspire would definately see some bad aspects but the footage from this drone is incredible and breathtaking. Great video Dustin!

Hi, I tried the battery you used. However I noticed it was flying lopsided and also it was going much faster, it was as if it was flying at max speed the while time (to keep stable), and because of that the bigger capacity battery was actually draining much faster than the other lighter one. Did you run into anything like that? Landing also was hard because of the increased speed.

I did a manual flight. I'm thinking maybe the top may not have been closed perfectly, as I remember it was a tight fit (might need more cutting). Seems a likely cause.
+rynmyn maybe. Make sure it keeps the factory aerodynamics and battery is as centered as possible for correct COG.

curious with the 1 mile advertised range, how'd you get over 3 miles out and still have connection before it dropped? was that all stock antennas and transmitters?
Also, on your automated landing, I wonder if you toggle the left stick if it would bring it out of auto land and restore manual control or if pushing the the auto land button would disengage it.

Pretty cool. Reminds me of my RC Glider days, flying 2 meter and 3 meter gliders .. you could stay up forever .. just limited to how long your radio battery would last. Weak point is the video/picture quality (compared to either a Go-Pro/clone or DJI 4K cam). Interesting that Amazon has it below Parrot's official price of $999 (which other dealers are selling it at). A few close calls, but it survived to fly another day. Perhaps when you get the larger battery in, you can fly to one of the other islands and back. I wonder if there are 3rd part control packages for it (like Litchi is for DJI). Haven't really checked. I will say though that it being fixed, no moving parts, able to pitch, and having EIS is probably no easy feat and I honestly can't say I've seen anything else like it. Congrats! This was an autonomous pre programmed flight. Not sure if parrot still charges for the app add-on but you'll see it in the app if you need to purchase it.
