    On the other end of the spectrum I built a 22x38' hanger last year on my grass strip. Wood beam construction, local logs milled on my saw mill. Metal panels for roof and doors are new steel, wall steel were reused panels and free. Four section vertical hinged manual doors. No insulation. Used carpet over the dirt floor. NO building codes or permits here. Used my backhoe for site prep and with a pallet fork attachment and a pallet as work platform. Total cost ~$3600. BUT your hanger/shop is very cool !!

      Mine 15 by 8 meters equals that price altho I made a Steel frame because I had the Steel surplus. I will have insulation hopefully and the price will go 5000 Euro.

    You should deduct the costs of keeping your aircraft at Reno-Stead Airport and the associated transport costs from the build total. It might make you feel a little better about the whole thing.

    • @Cmoredebris
      @Cmoredebris 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +18

      You could rent and drive for a long time on $277k. What makes you feel good is convenience and pride of ownership. Trent might also be able to claim tax deductions on the hangar since he uses aircraft for business.

    • @UncleKennysPlace
      @UncleKennysPlace 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@CmoredebrisThe value of time is rather hard to put a price on. If the round trip to the airport is an hour and you fly 100 times a year, you are that far ahead.

    • @Cmoredebris
      @Cmoredebris 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@UncleKennysPlace 100 flights or 100 round trips to the Reno-Stead airport from Trent's house:
      That would be 80 hours of driving. Value of Trent's time, say $100. Rent at $500/mo. Gasoline $3.75. MPG of 20. Wear and tear plus insurance $3/mile.
      For $277,000, Trent could have continued to fly out of Reno-Stead for 11 years 8 months.
      If Trent invests the $277,000 at 5% then he could have continued to fly out of Reno-Stead for 29 years.
      From strictly a money calculation, the hangar is not a good investment. However, there are so many other variables, that in time, the hangar will be a great investment.

    • @rixtrix11
      @rixtrix11 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Cmoredebris true. However, convenience is cheap along with all the other uses a building that size offers. My 768 sq ft backyard shop for $45k raised our home valuation by $130K! The shop is less than 30 steps from our home vs time spent driving a couple of miles to a rented building to get the 1 tool I need in the house right now.

    I know the pain far too well. We built our NorCal Compound; really loved it; way over budget; eventually unsustainable; sold it. Moved to Michigan; built a shop to build my RV-8; built the RV-8; flew the RV-8; WAY over budget; not sustainable long-term; just sold it. I hope you guys can enjoy your lives on your dream property for far longer than we were able to enjoy our dreams. But the bottom line for all of is that WE DID IT! Trent
    Permits are very important.
    Thank you very much again for everything.
    I purchased a pre made storage barn 30’ x 16’ and 14’ tall, and I completely permitted it, it took a year and half from ordering it to getting completely signed off which took a year to get the county inspectors to finally sign it off.
    And the last County inspector told me that he had no less than a thousand complaints from people that would call several times a day about it, saying that I was putting in an unpermitted building, business, grow or drug laboratory and so on, lots of jealous haters out there.
    I’m very happy for you and your family that you don’t have to rent a hanger anymore, with the best part being that you can fly right from your house and back to make your ability to put out the excellent great quality videos that you do that we all appreciate so much.

    Super nice, Mine is 60' x 60'. The backside has a full lean to off of it like yours. Also mine we used round pipe in the ceiling for a structural load, I have a friend of mine that will land his R44 on the roof.
    I have enough room in there to park my highlander along with two cab tractors and my small dozer.
    They hang her door is I believe 38 feet wide I pretty much made it myself it has two large hydraulic cylinders on each end that actually came off of a huge 644 John Deere industrial loader attached to a 35 gallon per minute electric hydraulic pump, that's ran remote control off of a key fob, the concrete slab is 80 x 120, but there is no asphalt in the front just grass.
    Built in 2012, and it was all custom built by me and a local contractor there was no kit to it Total cost for the building and everything pretty much as you said although we don't have any permit processes here to waste money on a built it for a little under $42,000. Which most of that cost was just the steel and the concrete

    Damn!!! I knew it would be expensive but... DAMN!!! I too thought it would be in the area of $120~$150 but... DAMN!! So yeah, as I followed your videos on this I already anticipated that my dream workshop is not obtainable, at least on a scale like yours. Few weeks/months ago, I decided that instead of a "hanger" type workshop, I will settle on a 4 car garage (wide with regular garage doors) but 2 cars deep. And honestly, after hearing your price tag, I'm now doubting if I will be able to afford that. Can anyone make sense of these prices?? It is literally a box with a hollow inside. Yet it cost more than an actual house. Well, at least you are done and you are happy. Good for you!!!! Congratulations!!! I'm jellin.

It wasn't both roof and concrete that could have gavle and wood frame roof. You could of closed that in for just a little more. Could have been an office and machine shop separated from the hanger.. still very nice build congratulations.

    Great video. I also have a house and hangar on an airpark with a climate controlled 4000sf hangar with full bathroom, one hangar door and three oversized garage doors using traditional home construction the same as the house. When the banks or insurance companies come out to appraise the property they like to label the hangar an “out building” and appraise it for $25,000 or similar. This awareness of the cost to build a hangar is needed. Thanks for a well produced video laying out the various costs associated with building a hangar. You did a lot of the work yourself. I think the average Joe could expect to pay a good bit more for a similar project if he just used contractors.

    Hey Trent, I know your viewers asked for the figures, but I hope it isn't causing you any buyer's remorse. If it does, it will be short-lived. You HAD to do this. It's you. And believe me, you are the envy of all of us, your viewers. What you did here is more than mere viewable material - it supplies motivation and dreams for us too. Seeing a friend go after theirs, makes us very happy, believe me

    Which is more expensive, the Kit Fox or the hangar? How much did you pay for space at the airport?

    Soylent should release a limited Donner Party Edition with a special extra ingredient.

    I still have incredible hanger envy. The lights are kewl, but the floor blows me away.
    Follow up request, long ago you showed us your pond and you had kitty cats coming to drink. How does the pond look several year after it was established? Any more mountain lions coming by your house?

    That is a great accomplisement. I would estimate it to be at least 50% or double that in Denmark

    Awesome build...just curious...hiw many planes could tight pack in there if you had some friends up for a weekend and those lovely popup spring storms role in...now having that capacity seems like it would make being in your business as a Bush Aviation Content Creator this seems like a priceless investment! Thanks for all that you do to take us through the ups, downs, bumps and bruises along the way included!

    The only Soylent flavor I like has been out of stock for months. Of course. On a side note, would love to see Haley's reaction to the price......

    Thanks Trent. You do have a dream hangar and dream property there. I guess I don't feel so bad now knowing that my insulated vaulted ceiling 36x26 garage/shop here in northern California (completed last August for my 7STi build) ended up at about $110k. I was originally expecting less than $50k. Thanks again Trent.
