Do you currently have a hobby where you make stuff?

@@sunilkumarpatil2272 Yes, definitely! It's the ONLY way to start the process of turning a "concept" into a designed and rationalized, material reality.

I love sewing too! I’m really into making different tote bags and exploring different patterns and fabrics. Love your videos!

@@beaumichael6252 Oh cool! It makes me happy to hear others enjoy sewing. Tote bags or any bag for that matter is not easy.... Especially if you want to design one that functions well. There is a lot hidden in the construction of a bag. Do you follow any independent pattern makers or do you generate patterns yourself?

Design plus Morna I usually just come up with my own based on bags I see online that have basic patterns and make changes where I see fit or even just try to copy I design I like from images. Looking to get more technical with my designs and draft my own patterns once I find a design I really like haha

@@beaumichael6252 Nice! Have you ever thought about producing your own bags? There is a great home sewing community online. As an alternative to producing your own bags, creating the pattern and selling it to home sewers is another route. I mention it because at one point, I was considering doing this with a shirt pattern I developed. There are some nice benefits to selling digital patterns such as no inventory.

Hey, I'm from Germany and just watched your videos on form follows function. I was wondered when I looked at your follower number. You definitely deserve more! Keep it up. Your videos have an interesting set-up. Maybe you should try different camera angles or just a little more distance to the camera for a more dynamic experience for the viewer. Anyways, I wish you the best of luck :)

I've always got entangled with the technicalities with conceptualising like complex hinge movements, ribbing, inner spacial arrangement of a product etc. Thank you, got an idea

Excellent advice, Morna!! It's so much fun to live with the things you design! I've always wanted to try soft goods, but I've always told myself I'm more of a hard goods designer. I love how easy it is to iterate and change a soft goods design, even at the production level it seems, as opposed to something like injection molding. That's why 3D printing in metal has been so interesting to me. No tool=continuous improvement. -James

Thanks, James! You should definitely try soft goods... especially if you try to make the prototype yourself. It can be like a new form of mental gymnastics! :)
3D printing in metal is an interesting process.. not sure if it is still super expensive. The engineers (where I work) looked into getting some parts printed in metal a few years ago and it was extremely expensive.

Oh my god! I love sewing too! The process of sewing is like solving a puzzle, really enjoy your video and your thinking process!

Thanks! Sew is pretty amazing, isn't it? :)
Yes, absolutely like solving a puzzle. That is the part I like to think of as "mental gymnastics"!!
The process can be frustrating but once the puzzle is solved... it's so satisfying.

Hi Morna, greetings from Colombia, I totally agree with your advice, because somehow I feel like this happened with me. I always liked to make technical drawings in autocad, and then that became 3d modeling, and then it became 3d printing, now I have a lot of experience in Design for manufacturing, to sum it up like this.

Even for me, who has been designing for 5 years, I still have challenges with new materials every day.

Thanks Sobhan. There is so much to learn in our profession, isn't there? I've been working for 12 yrs, also have challenges and am constantly learning! haha. I feel like this is one of the reasons why it is so interesting. For me, the learning part is part of the fun.
