    I gotta admit, when I think bluegrass I see an F-Style mandolin, a resonator banjo, and a square neck dobro resonator. This seems more like an oldtime/folk vibe, but I hope these are great instruments that people enjoy and play whatever they please on!

      @sethwilson970 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea a round neck resonator isn’t really much use in bluegrass compared to a square, it would be cool if they could of done both.

    • @BobPapadopoulos
      @BobPapadopoulos ปีที่แล้ว

      Wait, huh? I think you're confusing bluegrass with blues, because most bluegrass wouldn't typically have any type of resonator or slide guitar. Drumtop banjos, standup or washtub bass, acoustic guitars, mandolin, and fiddle is pretty well the standard.

    • @letmeooze
      @letmeooze ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Bob Papadopoulos Nope, you can find bluegrass with square neck resonator players at least as far back as Flatt and Scruggs, and Jerry Douglas is pretty well known in bluegrass. It's not an essential bluegrass instrument and is the least common that's accepted by fans and players of the genre, but there are some very killer dobro players. I play and listen to a bunch of bluegrass, amongst other things.

    Nobody in bluegrass plays a round neck resonator. Bring back the Gretsch Boxcar Squareneck. In fact, Fender really dropped the ball here, the Gretsch folk instruments are great bang-for-the-buck instruments, and should have been marketed better. The people I know who have them, love them based on sound, playability, and especially value.
    Bluegrass players also prefer closed-back resonator banjos, and F-style mandolins, though the mandolin shown is acceptable for some use.
    I'm sure who was consulted on the "Bluegrass" line, but I can't imagine they know much about bluegrass music. Perhaps these will be marketed to non-bluegrass players in Kentucky.

      I read open back is perfect for country which is what I want to play thoughts

    • @johnnystevens6116
      @johnnystevens6116 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RebeccaHindle Open-back is best suited for quiet rhythm, and it's used more on old-time, stringband, blues, Americana-influenced music. The lack of a back allows sound inside the head to escape out the back, and rests in a softer sound with shorter duration (sustain). They are generally played in a clawhammer or "failing" stye. Closed-back banjos push the sound out the front, and are therefore louder and clangy-sounding. They are used in country music FAR more often.
      Put simply, open-backs say "Ploonka-ploonka-ploonka," and closed-backs say "blang-blang-blang." LOL

    Banjo arrived today. I feel terribly disapointed. This is a very low quality instrument, with bad finishes, made in China. Why do they hide this? I was not expecting an american one, but maybe korean... I had to work on it for about an hour to try to put it into play fit. And yet it does not stay in tune well. Going beyond fret 7 will sound out of tune. Considering that it comes with a pickup included, just take off the price of this and you can get an idea of the real value of the instrument itself. I own a Fender Stratocaster MIJ I bought in the 80s and a Fender Telecaster American Standard bought only 6 years ago made in the USA. Both of them are really great instruments. But this banjo is not. I relied on the brand but right now I am considering returning to the vendor. If Fender is going to sell this quality I suggest they consider using another an alternative low cost brand to avoid missleading clients (Squire?), just to keep their flagship unharmed. This should not be sold under the Fender name. For a few more bucks I am considering changing this for a Deering Goodtime, which is made in the USA. It comes with no electronics, but that can be sorted out buying a portable pick-up. Honestly, consider either the one mentioned before or if under a tight budget the Recording King Dirty 30s. GRRRRRRR!!!! :-(

    • @ryanshotton1972
      @ryanshotton1972 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed. If you actually listen to bluegrass these instruments are nowhere near the right tone. At first I thought these were all plugged straight in with a cheap pickup. They didn't even get a bluegrass picker to demo.

  • @editorjuno
    @editorjuno 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Fender ought to have consulted with actual bluegrass musicians, because these are not the sort of instruments typically played in bluegrass bands. This introduction is another sad chapter in Fender's long history of failure in acoustic instrument marketing.
