This is AWESOME!!!! I've been installing my dream HI FI system a 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos Surround Sound Since October 2022 along with a 2022 smart 4K TV and trying to explain Atmos to people and what they have been missing all these years in sound and how movies with Atmos come to life. This will be a great tool for me to show.
Atmos changes the way you game, watch tv and movies, and listens to music. I feel bad for people who dont know what atmos is because it will change their life
Dolby Atmos is overrated! Don't get me wrong I enjoy Dolby Atmos but it's actually only good for Dolby Atmos content. When one is listening to a 5.1 movie with the height channels on. One will actually be hearing a movie thats been mastered for 5 base level speakers and yet the same 5.1 signal will be coming out of the height channels 😲 (Messes up the soundstage imaging) it becomes even worse when listening to 2-ch encoded movie with the height channels on. It's only the fact I'm able to turn my height channels off (external amp) that I was truly able to verify this But unfortunately most people using a 7 or 9 ch internally amplified AVR won't be aware of this. If one keeps being told Dolby Atmos is the next best thing to sliced bread.. one really can't blame them. Unless one has got the option to turn the height channels off, I would recommend not upgrading to Dolby Atmos and stick with 5.1. After all, the vast majority movie content out there is 5.1 or smaller anyway. Besides isn't it best to listen to a movie the way it was intended to be heard! One thing I will say I'm in favour of Dolby Atmos. They certainly know how to promote things from.
@@Antibackgroundnoise What a crock. Your logic amounts to "Atmos is great when you use Atmos, but it's overrated because when you're not using Atmos, Atmos doesn't work". I have a slightly above-average AVR (Denon X4700H) and a 5.2.4 speaker setup (the 4 are in-ceiling) and when I watch this video, I have not 1, not 2, but 3 surround-sound options in my AVR for handling the 5.1(DD+) audio content this clip produces from the YT app, playing from my nVidia Shield: 1) I can listen using the 5.1 speakers on the floor only, 'as intended'. That is one sound mode available to me. 2) By choosing another sound mode, I can listen with the original 5.1 DD+ mix playing on the floor set, plus a Dolby-based algorithm synthesizing the sound that's coming from my 4 ceiling speakers, from the 5.1 source. I believe they've repurposed the old term 'Dolby Surround' to refer to this technology. It is NOT called 'Atmos'. 3) Or, I can choose to listen with the original 5.1 DD+ mix playing on the floor set, plus a DTS-based algorithm synthesizing the sound that's coming from my 4 ceiling speakers from the 5.1 source. This tech is called DTS: Neural X. The ability for the AVR to create these height channels (esp. with 2 different methods) from a 5.1 source is absolutely a FEATURE, not a bug. It is not 'Atmos', it's 5.1 + digitally-created height signals. And I don't know of ANY (though there may be some) devices that will INSIST on playing sound from the height channels if the source is actually 5.1. You're far more likely to have a device that simply won't put out any height signal unless the source actually contains it (i.e. it's an Atmos or DTS:X signal with the height info). I quite like these synthesized ceiling effects, myself, and I use Neural X basically all the time when listening to native 5.1 content (a two channel source is a different story, but then that's so far away from 'Atmos' why are you even bringing it up?). Neural X does a very decent job of creating a more enveloping sound environment, and doesn't 'mess up the soundstage imaging' present in the 5.1 mix to any notable degree. As an aside, 'imaging' and 'soundstage' are two separate qualities/traits of your speaker's reproduction, not one. Lastly, I can turn off all BUT my height speakers very easily because I have a power amp for the 5 floor speakers, and just listen to what comes out of them, and I assure you that the signal is absolutely NOT just a simple mirror of what's coming out of the FR/FL/SR/SL speakers on the floor. There is an algorithm involved. And the Dolby height processor produces different phantom height signal vs the DTS Neural X Processor. I prefer the job the DTS processor does, as I said above. Would I RATHER have a real Atmos/DTS:X source with true object-based height effects, 'as intended'? Absolutely. Because 'Atmos' is not overrated (or at least, not by much). What you are doing is conflating Atmos technology ... with a particular speaker configuration. They are actually two different things. The only way your argument is valid is if you find an 'Atmos' product that refuses to NOT synthesize height effects if/when the source doesn't actually contain them. And then you could criticize THAT product for forcing fake height effects on you, even if you don't want them (and/or maybe it's processing to create those height effects sucks). That would be fair. But what that *device* is doing is not a drawback of 'Atmos'.
This is the best Dolby commercial I’ve found on TH-cam today. I’m making a playlist for audio demonstrations over various devices, headphones, speakers, computers, etc. This one has good range and quality.

Estou adorando.

Found something FAR better than this if you're just using headphones. Try a few of the 8D music videos you'll find on TH-cam to get a genre you like. The best way to describe it is that you've got one of those in-game companion droids flying all around you, but it's a really clear and deep speaker. It's like you're not even wearing headphones. It really messes with your head in such a good way (I have ADHD). Just don't be listening and expect to be able to multi-task as with a podcast because it's so beautifully distracting.
