I guess what I especially love about the first mirrors edge compared to the second one is there are basically no "waypoints" or giant arrows pointing your towards your objective. It feels like a valve-esque game. There also was a "fan game" made in TF2 called parkour fortress, which takes heavy inspiration from mirrors edge.

I love the first one, i like the Second one but being a half sequel and Technically not being being connected to the original story it doesn't have the same vibe. The first one has very nice minimalistic and colorful colors in the city inspired by the 2000s Architecture (u can clearly see that haha) and the Second one has inspiration by that but it doesn't give the same clean structure of the palette that the first one did cuz it has more pink and neon colors than the first game. The story in the Second is also not very much explained as the first one but it's just my opinion.

As for the mods/fan games - I'm not aware of any fan game, but there are custom maps for the original ME, you can see them on TH-cam, for instance on the channels called "kekuncias" and "Steve Glowpunk" (I hope I spelled that right). Dunno if these maps are downloadable, though.

I played it just recently on PS-NOW and what can I say? I was stoked!!!
It is weird how a game can look aged but yet hyper realistic at the same time by being minimalistic to the max. The soundtrack is just amazing and the aestethics and atmosphere just drew me in like in a way other games hadn't for quite some time. It has this weird flair of a dystopian mega city in Middle Europe like Brussles or Berlin with a mid-90s pop culture touch, if that makes any sense to you.
It is just absolutely inspiring! I love it, and absolutely recommend it!

I played through this again a couple months ago and still couldn't get over how pretty it was now as much as it was back in 08! I remember seeing this back then and being amazed how well this showcased the power of the ps3, im honestly surprised it wasn't a system seller based on its visuals alone. Really wish catalyst could've been a true sequel and improved upon what made the original great instead of retconing faith's character and everything else in the world. Maybe someday we'll get lucky and dice and ea will get their sh*t together and or pass the ip off to a more capable dev in the future, though if most recent releases are anything to go by it probably wont turn out as Great as it should unfortunately 😮‍💨

Hands down, this is one of the most underrated games of the 7th Gen. The story might be underdeveloped, and the games main story is only around two and a half hours long. However, the main focus of this game is its stunning visuals, which still hold up today, and super imersive gameplay. This is a game that everyone needs to play at least once if they still have a working PS3 or Xbox 360 lying around

I like both games, maybe Catalyst a bit more due to being able to explore the game world more and the music is downright incredible. One of my favorite mirror's edge mods if the cut ending recreation mod.
It brings back the original final fight on the rooftop with the troops, using the whole map arena that at release was reduced to a trial race map.
It also brings back cut dialogue. Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to beat without shooting the enemies. It's just WAY too hard.
It was recently patched so it HOPEFULLY doesn't have any major issues anymore.

I'm 29 now, almost 30 (damn) and I remember when this game was announced, friend of mine and I were buying a game magazine every month and dreaming about buying new components and playing games at max details and high resolution. This game was totally something new and we were crazy about it (we were in high school) that we even tried doing it in real life. There are some ruins that are high around 4 meters and we were running on it, doing some jumps, we also did training and got some muscles lol
So yeah, this game and Assassin's Creed 1 were the games that were really something special at that time and I'm really happy I was born at 1993. I'm literally living from the very start of the pc game era - considering I started playing computer games since I was a little kid. And to tell you the truth, games really did progress a lot, but old games have a soul that today games can't achieve- or at least it's just that I'm not a kid anymore and can't live through games as my young soul did at the time. Thank you for this video, it reminded me of a special time in my life!

Ever since the day I first booted up the demo, there's a part of my heart that will always, always be reserved for ME. I love many other games, I love final fantasy, Persona, God of War, all great games. But no matter how good they will be, one part of me will always belong to ME.
The reason behind this is hard to explain. I often use this analogy: my wife once fell in love with a particular sweater. She couldn't stop talking about it. To me it looked like nothing in particular, so when I asked her what was so special about it she said: I can't really tell, but it just feels like someone went inside my head and pulled out that sweater. It just...right.
And that's ME to me. The city, the music (thank god for Solar Fields), the gameplay...everything is just 'right'. To this day, when I have to focus at work, I will put gameplay ambients ME and catalyst playlists on.
Catalyst for me was a bit of a mixed bag. I loved the game of course, and it remedied the most obvious flaw of the first game: the fact that it wasn't open world. In ME I often had to stop to just enjoy the view of the city, and, especially when looking at the minimalist map, felt so robbed that there was this jewel of a city, and I couldn't explore any of it. I was limited to a couple of rooftops and stormdrains. So Catalyst comes out and while I do love the city of Glass as well in its own right, it felt almost TOO clean, too futuristic. In ME, the city still feels like its in a kind of process, like it's being described in the comic books, of becoming that clean and shining city, but it's not quite there yet. In Catalyst it's there and beyond. It just doesn't feel 'real' anymore.
For me, the perfect game would've been ME with the free roaming of Catalyst, but hey, we can't always get what we wish. Anyway, I know that there is tons of lore hidden in catalyst for future games, so let's all pray that we haven't seen the last of Faith or Glass yet.

This is and always will be one of my favorite games of all time. It was a breath of fresh air in a time where everything was a brown fps or third person shooter.

I've bought mirror's edge a few years ago and I really enjoyed it. I hope there will be next mirror's edge. I like this game. And it still looks better, than many games now. And it is pretty optimized.

I just replayed this for like the 4th or 5th time already. I did it because I wanted to play Catalyst, only later I found out it's a reboot, but anyways it was good to remember the story, have crazy nostalgic feelings and it truly never gets old, still an amazing game.

Think this was the first game I got on 360 and I remember coming home from school everyday and playing it. I would stay in some areas just to listen to the music (got to remember most ost weren't on TH-cam then) lol . I miss those days this and perfect dark zero

The first one really is the best. It's less buggy then Catalyst, if you want to repeat a run it is a lot faster, due to shorter load times and I think it's good that there is no open world, because in catalyst you just got funneled through the same areas again and again. I am replaying Mirrors Edge every single year at least once. And since it is an DirectX 9 game, it might be able to be modernized using Nvidia RTX Remix once that one releases..

I played both of games and preferred the original of course with probably more than a thousand hours of gametime. The second entry changed the story and the environment but still a top game too.

Honestly, if they implemented this type of game mechanics in the Cyberpunk 2077 game, I bet it would be one of the most played games of years to come.
Combine the parkour/hand to hand combat, with the free roam, intense gun fights, driving around in the cyberpunk city. My god would that be amazing.

Im okay with saying that Mirror's Edge is the best game ever in my opinion. With the originality and amazing artwork and gameplay of both games, it's kind of a masterpiece. Because as I'm pretty sure everyone else has said before, there really is nothing like it. And you know what, I doubt there ever will be, so I pray to this day that EA Dice will make a third Mirror's Edge game. Weather its a reboot of the reboot, or a sequel to Catalyst, or maybe even to the original Mirror's Edge, I'd love to see anything new right now.

Mirror's Edge along with Dead Space is both videogames that released by EA that puts most efforts into it and a lots of detail. and they actually made it with such a great heart and they take a good care of it until as always, EA said that it "didn't make much money" and they eventually killed both of the series to the end.

Mirrors Edge (The Original) 5*s fantastic! Short & Sweet!
I've never gone back to Catalyst, whilst it was a good game, the open worldness of it for me spoils the moment-to-moment.
The original Mirrors Edge was just a hand crafted experience from Start to Finish and the fact you can finish it in one sitting, for me personally, is just a bonus.
Well done to the developers here, they can hold their heads up high as they created a masterpiece!
The complaints I hear about this game are all to me what make the game what it is. The emphasis on Hand-to-Hand, the spatial awareness. When you get this game right, it's perfect!
