I have to agree with James on the stone, even tiles are hard to keep clean let alone the stone… unless you had a glass splashback put over the stone just where the oven is to protect them :)
The stone tile is gorgeous and I hate to say it but not practical in the kitchen. Why don’t you use them in the downstairs loo behind the sink? They will look so good wherever you put them but I think you’ll regret it as a kitchen backsplash. Ps. Amber is an absolute treasure xx
Why not put some spaghetti sauce on the stones that are going on the wall to test staining and see if they can be cleaned off with product or if it stains. It is a porous stone which sucks in liquid so I wouldn’t be surprised if it stains. I know granite has stuff you can put on it to keep it from sucking stuff in and I wonder if there’s something like that for the stone?

I think definitely go for the chalk option. The other takes away from the other components.. everything blends in. Whereas with the chalk, it makes all the other elements pop! It looks really nice with the chalk xx

I wondered with the kitchen if maybe it’s not so much that there are too many colours but too many tones. The stone splash back is warmer tones and the flooring is warmer (like you said more yellow than your greyer ones in your house) the tops then look bright white with grey which is more cool toned and then the grey cupboards are cool toned. I’d probably change the tops to something warmer and have a more creamy coloured cupboard to match the splash back. Btw, I know nothing about interiors so feel free to ignore everything I’ve said 😂 it’s just something I noticed as we got grey carpet all throughout our flat when we first moved in and I realised it’s hard to match paint to it because it’s cool toned.
Carys - I have a new white kitchen (Howdens Porcelain) and when it’s in place it definitely looks darker and less ‘bright white’. Against our laminate white marble-effect countertop (similar to your choice) it looks off-white and we love it. I chose it because we got a warm wood-effect floor in kitchen and it made it brighter 😊
definitely the chalk colour, there will be lots of things in the kitchen and it brings a more scandy vibe with the basic colour of white. love it all it’s going to look so amazing
Yes, we are loud! Ditch the backsplash! The kitchen is naturally a space that gets dirty. You don't want an impractical, hard to clean backsplash! There are other options, similar vibe, not so hard to clean!

I agree with you on the cabinet color Carys! The white looks so lush with the other colors and textures you have and I think it complements everything else so beautifully! The clay is a pretty color but I personally feel like it gets lost with all the other textures and colors that you have. The white provides a wonderful balance whereas the clay makes everything blend together. PS: I was so excited at y’all announcing the fixer upper, I’ve LOVED watching y’all renovate your houses over the years 🥰❤
We use the Chilly brand coffee takeaway cups they’re double lined so not hot to hold and keeps the drink warm! They are really secure and don’t leak either - also some really cute patterns 🤣🤍
With the backsplash debate.. why don’t you set it up next to/behind your stove and leave it there while you cook for the next week and see how dirty it gets and try and clean it. Kinda gives a small chance to “test run” and make a more informed decision😁

I prefer the white. I think it highlights the white parts of the stone wall, brightens the space and has a stronger contrast with the other elements than the clay, which makes it less busy to the eye and doesn’t overwhelm you in combination with the brown flooring and the ceiling 😊

How do you get Amber to sleep so well? My 17 month old daughter has so much energy and it’s a battle to get her down every evening! My hubby and I barely get a moment together by the time she’s asleep and we’ve tidied up after bed! 😩 Parenting is hard…especially with two little kids but you’re doing an amazing job evidently by the smiles on their faces. So sweet ❤️
Make sure there is at least 5 hours awake time before her bedtime. So if her day nap runs too late, it'll be a fight. Toddlers need at least 5 hrs awake time before sleep. We've used white noise since birth, really helps as a sleep que and also blurs out background noise. Start bed routine an hour before bed too.
@@holliegillespie7372 yes we give the wake window suggested with white noise etc. She just pushes through and can stay awake for hours beyond that! She’s accepted laying in her bed to fall asleep with me there so hoping it will start to settle. 🤪

Definitely chalk Cary's. The clay will be too dark. The chalk will give definition. James is right with the stone tiling, we put a sealer on our tiles and I'm always worried about staining them, so when I cooked I would always have a glass chopping board at the back of the stove top just in case, and then you end up leaving it there
The fake ipad thing has a battery in. I got my 2 boys one each and theyre literally the best. They go in the changing bag on days out when we are sitting and waiting for something, gives them a few minutes of being creative. My boys are 6 and nearly 2. Love the planner you made x

James is right on the stone, the porous nature of the backsplash tiles means that they are dirty and stained within a few weeks (experience of having these in a rental) 🥴 What about using them as a sink splashback instead?x
Maybe try meal prepping so you have 3 or 4 days of dinners and lunches ready to go to save the evening stress of trying to cook ❤ i would avoid the stome tiles but ypu can probably get a similar effect with a smooth finish thats easy to clean?

Comforting to hear some honest words about the chaos of parenting small children 🙂. We have a 1 year old who doesn’t sleep and we both work extremely hard and honestly it is intense! Trying to get myself and my toddler up, fed, watered, washed, clothed, and getting her off to nursery before I start my working day is chaos (my husband starts work at 3am so isn’t there). By the time I start work it feels like I’ve run a marathon 🏃♀️. Feels like there’s not 2 seconds in the day to catch our breath. It’s all worth it of course but exhausting for sure.
Honestly I have a 5 and 1 year old and I’m exactly the same. A stressful bedtime makes me feel so negative and feel like I’m not good enough etc. Our brains can be so cruel to ourselves but I do try do what you do and change my mindset and help calm myself x
James is 100% right this time - ditch the stone if you don’t you will defo regret it it will look nice but it’s not functional !
Or an option is to put glass backsplash on top of that, easy to clean and it keeps its looks

Sorry Cary’s, but James is right about the stone tiles. They will absorb every spit and splash…be it fat, bolognese…or worse. They are porous.

If you do the stone backsplash i would go for the clay kabinets and change the worktop to a white laminat. Either way, the one you choose is too gray.

I think the chalk is better and works better with the marble top and ties in the white element the stone makes the marble seem out of place xx love you and your videos, always make me happy 😊❤
Comforting to hear some honest words about the chaos of parenting small children 🙂. We have a 1 year old who doesn’t sleep and we both work extremely hard and honestly it is intense! Trying to get myself and my toddler up, fed, watered, washed, clothed, and getting her off to nursery before I start my working day is chaos (my husband starts work at 3am so isn’t there). By the time I start work it feels like I’ve run a marathon 🏃♀️. Feels like there’s not 2 seconds in the day to catch our breath. It’s all worth it of course but exhausting for sure.
I had those lick and sip popsicle moulds when I was little! They were genius!

Honestly I have a 5 and 1 year old and I’m exactly the same. A stressful bedtime makes me feel so negative and feel like I’m not good enough etc. Our brains can be so cruel to ourselves but I do try do what you do and change my mindset and help calm myself x
