    I really like the suitcase speaker box. Brilliant! I am researching my decision for a speedster or spyder. Great info and ideas. Thank you

    Hi Aaron. We’ll I’m 2 years into the build and 2 months since John sent me pictures of the painted body. In you experience and to calm my anticipation what was your experience in what I can expect going forward? Thanks for your help.

      First remain calm (haha...which is easy for me to say after the fact...because I didnt) John is not a big communicator as you well know. ...so don't assume the worst. Send another couple of emails asking if he is about ready for you to come out and do the shakedown runs. Start planning a trip out to see the progress of the build. Its your car...its essential for you to stay engaged eith on the phone or in person. Me...i am an in person kind of guy so I was in Cali often for work so I just planned a couple of extra days to see the progress.

      I end up reaching out when I need moral support so here I go again. I’ve been trying to reach John over the last few weeks. Calls and emails. It’s gone quiet to the point I worry he might not be well or just on vacation. Have you experienced this?

    Love the mats - old school. I’m thinking about a stinger exhaust but I’m still look at a wide separation dual setup. Thank you so much for the shift bushing kit. Nomax is also a great solution. With all the construction in metro area you have to think protection for that cooling system. If you’re ever in St Louis let me know - I’m planning the build but I have to get 1 kid through school still, but I’ve started to talk to JPS. Thanks for inspiring us. Great summary video for ownership.

    Beautiful car. What version of the ej25 is in this? It looks like a non-turbo motor but I think I heard (maybe in the comments on another video) that it was around 230HP? Trying to figure out which version had that much power without a turbo. Thanks!

    • @awilson9530
      @awilson9530  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a 1999- 2001 jdm ej254 NA Outfront Motorsports in LA built the motor.

    Yeah, the luggage speaker box is inspired. I'm starting to look around for a used one of these, partially for cost but also in hopes that some of the shakedown issues have already been addressed. Downside is, it may mean parting 'with my 07 Carrera S in order to make it happen, and I'm not sure I can let go of it., yet.

    Hi Aaron. It’s been awhile, but my build is starting to move. I don’t have any additional questions due to our previous exchanges. Thank you for that. Is there any issues/ wishes you have uncovered since your last post that I should be aware of as I finalized my colors and options? Thanks again.

      congrats on the build! what color did you go with? I really don't have anything I would add or change. I continue to throughly enjoy my car as often as possible.

      Ruby red, same interior, motor, etc as yours. The only difference would be I’m going to add more of the frilly stuff, like badging, trim. Thanks for your input, it was very helpful.

      A Wilson jps out of California sir

    • @awilson9530
      @awilson9530  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ...where to start....here is what I learned from my experience with JPS. first...you have to know going in its not a fast process. JPS builds the highest quality coupes and speedsters replicas anywhere. It took 27 months for my car to be completed. I would do it again to get one of their cars.
      second... dont scrimp on adding the options you want. Probably will only have one built in your lifetime. get what you want. We added leather, subi motor, carrera badging and several others
      third.. don't order A JPS car if don't like attention. I have only had the car a little over 6 months, had it in half a dozen car shows and it always draws a crowd and takes home trophies every show.
      As far as loose bolts, JPS uses nylon lock nuts on everything, but with any build its normal and expected to do go back and do a bolt check as the car settles in. So don't take it as a quality issue.
      fourth. JPS stands behind their warranty...i have had a few minor issues, with just a call John always sends the parts I need in the mail.
      Fifth...make sure you are involved in the build process. You are spending the money, so stay on top of it. I made half a dozen trips to JPS during the build, then several trip for the shakedown runs when it was near completion. This ensured problems were discovered early and able to be fixed there.

      A Wilson thank you so much sir...we can’t wait to start this build. I’ll make sure John knows that you have nothing but high regards for his products.

    Hi Aaron, I’ve ordered a coupe about 6 weeks ago and have enjoyed your experiences. As I work through the build with JPS do you have any recommendations on how to proceed with JPS since the build time frame is long and I’m trying to control my excitement and need for status? Also did you consider the turbo option and I’m interested in why you didn’t go in that direction? Thanks and I’ll probably be reaching out for more info and I progress in the build. If that is ok.

    • @awilson9530
      @awilson9530  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      congrats on your order...Where to start...it is a long build, initially I was told 6 months, which it ended up being 27 months. So I try to set everyone's expectations a little more to what you should really expect. John's team works at their own speed, and the sooner you realize you pushing won't change a thing the better you will be. There are several reasons why I didn't turbo, first I want it to be drivable, way too much power for a car that light, second, after talking to the engine builder, he recommended the non turbo, you can't run an intercooler which complicates trying to tune the engine, the 2.5 big port 4 cam is more than enough power for the car, it will surprise you...now if you are going to race the car then maybe turbo. would love to have a phone conversation with you, if I can figure out to message you my number

    • @steveharman9616
      @steveharman9616 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Aaron! No turbo for me. You must have gone with the JDM engine option since if I remember correctly your dyno was 230 hp. It’s good to know it actually was that high. I like your color option as that is what I’m going with. I’m looking at the ruby red. Is that was yours is? I was also looking at how to get the radio built in. Did you pursue that? Yes, your recommendation to not push was excellent and I’ll relax a bit. As I get further along we’ll figure out how to talk. Thanks again!!

    • @awilson9530
      @awilson9530  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      the color I chose was 1957 porsche signal red, the interior is ferrari tan, the dash really isn't set up for the built in stereo head unit, the under the dash works great. I would recommend upgrading the unit to begin with if you have plans to upgrade the system later. absolutely! love to help you any way I can!

    • @steveharman9616
      @steveharman9616 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did think of another item. I’m not a fan of the speedster style seats. I would like the more conventional seats you see in the vintage coupes. However, I’ve been warned they can cramp the space for the taller driver. I’m 5’11 and hope it won’t be an issue. Do you have any thoughts on this? Again, thank you for your help!

    • @awilson9530
      @awilson9530  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also want different seats to begin with. I am also 5 11, there is absolutely no room for any other seats than the speedster seats. the seats in my car are custom 6 inches higher in the back than a normal speedster seat, and they are surprisenly a lot more comfortable than I thought. if you are stuck on a different seat..i would drive one with the seats in it before I made my final choice. but I can tell you it's tight getting in and out with the speedster seats
