What also could be mentioned was the Chiefs were so impressed with Frank Gansz, the special teams coach at 3:03, they actually promoted him to head coach after the 1986 season to replace the supposed offensive minded John Mackovic.
Unfortunately he went 8- 22- 1 over two years with K.C. But he did have a long career in the NFL, mostly as a special teams coach

Albert Lewis #29 of the Kansas City Chiefs
    Career Accomplishments
    Kansas City Chiefs (1983-1993)
Los Angeles / Oakland Raiders (1994-1998)
    4× Pro Bowl (1987-1990)
    2× First-team All-Pro (1989, 1990)
Lewis was a 3rd round draft pick (61st overall) by the Chiefs in the 1983 NFL Draft. He enjoyed a stellar career that spanned 16 seasons in which he recorded 42 interceptions, 12.5 sacks, 13 forced fumbles, 13 fumbles recoveries and 2 touchdowns. In addition to his standout play on defense, Lewis blocked a stunning 11 kicks in 11 seasons with the Chiefs.

It is an embarrassment that Albert Lewis is not in the HOF. Jerry Rice called him his toughest corner that he faced, was a a game-changer on special teams, and a GREAT cover corner for the Chiefs and Raiders, playing there for an amazing 15 years, plus one year at free safety.

As a 13 year old Bears fan during the 1986 NFL season this was exciting to watch from a distance. I'd be watching the Bears and they'd show the updates from other games. I don't know how many times I saw Deron Cherry or Albert Lewis blocking punts, field goals, forcing fumbles etc. Even running back returns. Here in Chicago we had a phenomenon named Devin Hester. But I'd never seen a team with a total and dynamic special teams like the 1986 KC Chiefs had.

Sproles returned punts for touchdowns against San Francisco (82 yards) and Carolina (65 yards) and was named to the Pro Bowl team. Parkey led the NFC in scoring with 150 points, converting 32 of his 36 field-goal tries and all 54 of his extrapoint attempts.
The Eagles tied an NFL record with seven special-teams touchdowns and also blocked a leaguehigh six kicks, including two apiece by Brandon Bair and James Casey. Three blocked punts by coach Dave Fipp’s units were returned for Philadelphia touchdowns by Maragos, Burton and Brad Smith. Maragos led the Eagles with 14 tackles in coverage, followed by Casey with 13, Nolan Carroll with 11 and Braman with eight. Carroll also chipped in a fumble recovery

Just think of the names, Tyreek Hill, Dante Hall, Albert Lewis, Nick Lowry, Dustin Colquitt, Morten Anderson, and Bryan Barker, these are all special teams greats. The Chiefs in general are unheralded for drafting and producing great special teams units.

I don't have to go check that guy's name again was it Albert Lewis or I'm going to check it again but I have to say he was submitter special teams players and Steve Tasker I mean look at that look at that stuff I do remember that team making the playoffs and losing I believe it was to the Jets I mean I grew up in Philadelphia and then I move to Boston and then Vegas then Florida for a while and yeah I never lived in the Kansas City Market but just what an incredible esoteric video and you know 5 stars

Thanks for giving special teams Love so this was Basically 1986 Chiefs Specials Teams Unit is basically equivalent of the 85 Bears and Greatest Show On Turf I like it yeah people only think of Vanateri,Hester and Papale when it comes to special teams

Wow, never heard of an offense being so horrible that they had rely on their special teams to win the games and produce a winning record.
    Chiefs = pile of garbage.
Special team = Can of Fabreeze
Clean smelling garbage. Went 10-6 to make the playoffs but lost in the first round 35-15 vs the Jets.

Not even mentioned was the great Nick lowery, an all pro kicker who was one of the best kickers in his time

Albert Lewis was a great all-around player. Why he's not considered for the Hall of Fame, I do not know.

Albert Lewis and HOF corner Emmitt Thomas were the greatest corners the Chiefs ever had! Kevin Ross is right behind them.

Special teams used to be a much bigger part of football. Now it's mostly an afterthought. Teams used to use a lot of starting position players on special teams, and almost every team had at least one guy that was on the roster ONLY because they excelled on special teams. And there was much more value placed on having a good field goal kicker and punter.
These days special teams units are filled almost entirely with end of the bench guys that would never see the field on a play from scrimmage unless multiple guys at the same position get injured during the course of a game. And nobody uses roster spots for guys that are special teams aces anymore. The bears took flak for years because everyone thought they were morons for using a roster spot for Devin Hester. And field goal kickers and punters have absolutely no value in the eyes of GMs anymore. Teams are always letting good kickers and punters go because they think they can just sign anyone with a pulse and it will make no difference.

I have to watch a few videos by someone before I subscribe. This is the fourth or fifth one I've watched by Elliot Harrison and I'm completely sold. Loved this one and the Walter Payton one. Great stuff for us NFL fans/historians!
