By the time it gets warm make sure the basement is completely sealed from the outside to keep out snakes and other critters since you now have an easy opening into the main part of the house from the basement.

Abby, Just think about everything, I mean absolutely everything that You have learned through this process! I was very impressed with your level of courage that you displayed when you started this project, but I feel like Your confidence and skill levels have absolutely gone through the roof!! Now You can spend the rest of the winter doing final little things done and decorating this beautiful home. Then in the spring, when you are recharged and refreshed you can tackle finishing the outside of the house and the landscaping just like You want it done. On the landscaping front, may I suggest that you start ordering flower catalogs so that in your "downtime" you can browse them and get anything that you want ordered in time to plant them I wonder how hard it will be for You and Jay to not be talking to each other every day. Mr. Jay has been a truly outstanding, patient and professional mentor for You! I don't remember how Y'all meant ( I think through you parents) but what an absolute jewel he has been. Count me in for the videos after you move in and start decorating, that's the fun part Abby! I think the little door is a great idea, but do the kittens have to jump down into the basement? Gomer is on the small side so if they go through the door and have to jump down that might be the problem. If it's high maybe Jay could built a little ramp out of some scrap lumber like a ramp so they can just run down rather then drop down onto the basement floor. Just an idea.

Keep a low light on in basement for the kitties. We did that for our kitties.
