It would not have been heartbreaking for the real Claerice De medici to see her young daughter married off into a powerful and advantages family. Historically and culturally speaking she would have been excited or proud by the power, influence, notoriety, weathy and or opportunities for her family. These people don't seem to understand that rennaisance families , even parents had some very different attitudes when it came to marriage and children. There were similarities of course, but also big difference.

oh, both clarice and lorenzo doubted the drinking and gambling, not to mention much older (older than clarice herself and almost as old as lorenzo) franceschetto cybo and his behavior very much and were unsure of the match. ultimately lorenzo decided to sacrifice his daughter’s happiness for power, but what clarice thought about this is unknown. but assuming how she first felt as a young bride in the foreign florence and how little she was welcomed by the medici family at first, i think her thoughts on this marriage were rather negative, after all maddalena was her favorite daughter.

I mostly agree. That is, daughters of the powerful are typically pawns in marriage and it should be expected. In this particular case, Clarice may have been upset for several reasons: 1) the timing (the child was really young; Clarice may not have been ready); 2) she may have objected to that particular match (perhaps more for personal reasons); and 3) she had no warning or influence over the decision (the weakest point since women aren't typically given too much sway). So I think she may have been unhappy about it but to what extent could have been inflated a great deal because she would not have expected a big role in what became of her daughter, given her own upbringing as a noblewoman.

Maybe. If Bianca was married into the pope’s family another bloodline would need not be sacrificed. Same for Giuliano. None of Lorenzo’s sibling agreed to marriage for the greater good, for politically alliance and power. Except for Lorenzo they chose who they loved. So I think from that experience he wanted to wed off his children since he had more control over his own child than his adult siblings. Perhaps from that pov he was partially correct. At least in terms of political power for Florence.
