      If not for the clunky external connections, I'd imagine that it would be pretty awesome. But, I guess that's the actual appeal of wireless tech.
      I can't help but feel like the Fishman Triple Play is too strong of a competitor to this, though.

    Very cool. I wish they sold just the bar as a regular expression device. Not only so that I could just plug it into my smaller footprint EHX Pitchfork, but it could be fun to be able to control all kinds of different parameters with a bar.

      An extra 1/4 jack on the back of the floor unit (+ a bit of software) would do it!
      There's upside in this!
      (I've thought of quite a few potential developments in about two minutes - I'm not giving them away for free!)

    • @RobertFisher1969
      @RobertFisher1969 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pd4165 That’d be better than not having it, but I really want the option to not have an extra box on the floor. Maybe that’s no possible, but it seems doable.

    • @peterwalker7862
      @peterwalker7862 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@RobertFisher1969 Hi Robert, sorry about the box on the floor... but there's a serious DSP and a lot of circuitry required to get low-latency pitch-shift with >100dB dynamic range. The good news: There's a MIDI output on the back of the VJP controller. This outputs 14bit high resolution pitch data that can drive most MIDI-capable effects units - not just for pitch but also for filters, delays etc. Cheers..... Peter

    • @RobertFisher1969
      @RobertFisher1969 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@peterwalker7862 Of course I understand the floor unit is needed for the pitch shifting. No complaints about that. (And it does seem very good at that, too.) So, you’re saying the controller’s MIDI output can be used without the floor unit? That is good news! If it also had a control voltage out that could be used directly with pedals that don’t support MIDI but have an expression jack, that would be even better, though.

    There’s still about 50 sounds & adjustments that a Floyd Rose can do that NONE of the digital trems can’t. But I dig the lack of tuning issues especially when using a Strat. And using one on a Les Paul is fun. I’m a studio lead guitarist and I often tour with with 1/3rd of the bands I play for in the studio. I’ve been blessed to have been able to make a living playing professionally for 35 years since I was 17.
    I have a Jeff Pro and an older Roland digital tremolo, but neither is studio friendly. I have used the JP live on my Les Paul for two songs when I first demoed the one sent to me. My main guitar is an Ibanez Premium w/a Floyd Rose and I use a ESP LTD with a Les Paul type Bridge. My two digital trems stay at home in my home studio gathering dust.

    • @gregclagett4312
      @gregclagett4312 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Your demonstration was great. And you were spot on pointing out that if you’re used to a floating trem system, it does take some getting used to the “feel” of the Jeff Pro especially when you’re used to the tension of a Rose to judge or feel how many steps you’re looking to achieve, or to know exactly how to hit the bar to get that “growl”. After knowing how to adjust the floating trems to suit me and using them for much of my professional career, I don’t think I’ll ever change to a digital tremolo system.
      But I really enjoyed your demo video and I love your Jake ‘E’ Lee Charvel. I had one that the headstock broke pulling off the low E & A machineheads. Never could get it fixed, and even after putting a new neck on it, it was never the same.

      @@gregclagett4312you may not answer this but it’s ok. I’m a Floyd rose guy and I’m thinking about modifying a bunch of my guitars with Floyd roses (a Flying V that’s string through, a fender Strat that has a rail tail in it now, and an esp eclipse with a stop tail piece.) Do you think I should just modify those bridges with Floyd roses or just get one of these that I could literally just attach any time?

    Cool device. Very similar functionality to a Digitech Whammy DT plus a bit more. Polyphonic tracking sounds very good.
    Would love to see it small enough to squeeze into a routed cavity on a guitar 😁.
    $500 is pricey (plus shipping, plus 20% import duty into the UK), but I would consider putting it on my next project guitar, which could potentially allow me to lose the ~$300 cost of a high-end trem system.
    Do you know does FOMO have a reseller in the UK ?

  • @micah_noel
    @micah_noel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the capo feature is something I could find useful. I would want to try it on one of my custom fiddles but I’m afraid that the acoustic sound, while not nearly as loud as a standard acoustic violin, would be too loud to be able to use it without having in-ear monitors cranked up loud. Even an electric guitar puts out enough volume to require louder monitoring than I would normally use to be able to hear the processed pitch shifting over the sound of the strings.

    I dunno if it's a game changer but it's sure as heck an amazing piece of gear. In addition to the trem features, a gigging musician doesn't have to tote baritones or other guitars tuned down or have to fiddle with tuning down (or up) in the middle of a set. Now here's another idea, for slide guitarists You can change your open tuning with ease.

    RJ, can you do a smooth vibrato that goes above and below the note, like Beck, or does the mechanical detent put a step function into the vibrato?
    I ask because I didn't see you do this type of vibrato.

    Hey! Really cool gadget and nice review man. Couple of questions, does the whammy bar stay in place after a while or does it loosen and falls? And the other question, can it flutter ? Thanks!

    i just got an ad for this...and over the last year I've picked up a Steinberger, a Schecter Diamond Damien-7 with Floyd Rose, and a Gretsch Streamliner for a Bigsby...didn't realize this was a thing lol. I have seen that Bigsby pedal though...anyone know how that is?
    But most importantly, is there tab or a tutorial on that Sleepwalk cover? That was wonderful

    Very cool. How is with subtle vibrato on a note or a chord?

  • @honkytonkinson9787

    That’s really cool. Can you isolate strings with it, like drop D only, or make your guitar sort of a B bender? Can it be an octave pedal?

    • @markkeneson6806
      @markkeneson6806 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, or mimic pedal steel effects, where multiple strings are changing in pitch simultaneously, but not necessarily in the same direction or to the same number of steps.

      @@markkeneson6806 ah, well maybe someone else will fill us in. I’ve been wanting to get a digitech whammy again, but this might be better if it’s about the same price. (I had an original wh-1 in the 90s and sold it because I couldn’t figure out how to use it)

      @@honkytonkinson9787 I think it might require a hexaphonic pickup(either the Roland style or piezoelectric saddles) to be able to affect Individual strings differently like we would like.

    Hey R.J…. Is it still possible to get natural feedback from your amp and control it with the bar?
    Or would one need something like the DigiTech Freaqout pedal to get feedback while using that system?

    What does it feel like ? Is kinda spring loaded ? It is really cool, but warbles and flutters from strats and Floyd Rose are part of my playing.
    Looks interesting, but at $499 it would be more fun saving up for a vintage Steinberger (Which is a long term plan of mine)
