I still call this 'The Oprah' episode, since everything people wanted happened: - Cutie Marks - Diamond Tiara character development - Mention of the Apple parents
28:47 I think there's more into this title. I must admit, when I first saw it, my first thought was: "Who's Mark and why is he lost?" :D Then of course I realized the obvious Indiana Jones reference, actually a mix of two: "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "The Last Crusade". But after I watched the episode several times, it finally hit me: The entire episode is about *finding somepony's lost cutie mark* :> And no, it is not about the CMCs getting _their_ cutie marks, because they haven't got any to begin with, so they couldn't be "lost", but rather "undiscovered". No. It was about somepony else's "lost" cutie mark: Diamond Tiara's one! :> Because she _already has_ her cutie mark. But she has "lost" it by listening to her mother all the time and modelling her bitchy behavior, because she thought it is right to do so. This way, she had "lost" her true self (which is represented by the cutie mark), until the CMCs finally helped her to "find" it again. And _that's_ why, in my opinion, this episode is called "Crusaders of the Lost Mark" :)
+Bon Bon and hence the cutie mark glowing cause she found her true self as she sings/says" my cutie mark has set me free" i thought it was that as well so AGREED
Bon Bon, you kinda miss the point. After the cutie mark crusaders helped Diamond Taira find her talent once again, they got their cutie marks that their willing to help fillies find their talent
Just a heads up, the talking level won't affect copyright. :P And all Hasbro does is monetize the video if they detect it, they won't block it. Plus, they detect the picture, not the audio. The couple of times that they did block an episode, I successfully appealed.
+Luffyiscool Yeah, the volume thing was a reaction to one of our videos being blocked. The appeal did work though, so maybe messing with the volume isn't necessary.
+Luffyiscool And actually, they detect both picture and audio. For example, our Friendship Games commentary was blocked because it has the song "What More is out There" in it. I'm going to mute the audio for that and re-upload, and I expect it will fix the problem.
+Andrew Meyer Sorta. If I remember correctly, Hasbro seeks image, but Friendship Games' soundtrack is copyrighted by Sony (I think). They definitely seek audio.
When did anyone else ever get their marks at the same time? *hintSonicRainboomhint* ;) And yeah their marks appeared pretty grandly, what if they eventually get called by the cutie map too? Would be cool :D
+Link DeWitt Yeah, I did think about that. It wasn't quite the exact same time for the Mane 6 though. For example, Applejack didn't get her mark until she went home to Sweet Apple Acres, and Pinkie didn't get hers until the day after the boom.
Finally! Sorry it took us so long to get this out. We didn't get a chance to record until Monday, and then we were busy with school throughout the week and weren't able to finish editing everything until Thursday, then it took two days to render and upload. O.o Also, Andrew and Kristina would like to apologise for getting spoiled on the big surprise this episode. In all fairness though, that one was pretty darned hard to avoid. ;-) It was still amazing to watch though, and we were still really surprised abou- ah, well just watch; you'll see!
+PonyWatch No need to apologize, it was not their fault that they got spoiled. Unfortunately, people who already watched this episode couldn't tame their emotions to avoid spoiling others :/ Well, shit happens. +DYWTBA_Brony has been spoiled too, and he was veeeery mad about that (which is understandable). So a reactor, to avoid being spoiled, needs to avoid _any_ sorts of social media and news in the time span between after the episode was aired and watching the episode him/herself. Just close yourself in a coffin or a deprivation chamber and sit there until you watch the episode :P These days, it is the _only_ way to avoid spoilers. Internet is simply too fast :P I'm glad you guys took so much care to avoid spoiling David. I applaud that.
+Bon Bon Heh. Actually, normally spoilers aren't a problem for me. I do black out social media partially after an episode airs, but still allow myself on controlled media like Reddit (where they have a strict anti-spoiler policy) and TH-cam (where as long as I ignore the "related content" sidebar and nobody blabs in the comments on our videos, I'm good) and areas where I don't normally see pony content (which is why I thought my RSS feed was safe this time, but apparently not). It's just that this particular spoiler had everyone shouting it from the rooftops (metaphorically speaking, of course) as soon as the episode finished airing. I could take it even further and avoid the internet entirely, but only if we watch the episode almost immediately after it airs since I need the internet for work and school. So yeah, this particular revelation was pretty hard to avoid. ;-)
+PonyWatch This is the perfect size group to watch the perfect episode with. Three commentators for three crusaders. 1. 2:49 DeLoreans are canon! (While checking on the spelling of DeLorean, I came across this really interesting article on the vehicle's history. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DeLorean_DMC-12 ) 2. 2:58 "Dude, this is like Magical Mystery Cure all over again. opening song and everything." You had no idea just how right you would be. 3. 3:31 "Oh look at that, Pip can't even reach!" White colts can't jump. ;) 4. 3:55 (About the theme) "I don't want to mute it completely because then it'll be really awkward..." Have you thought about replacing the theme song audio with some music of your own for the background sound? You could either showcase some fan music, or use clips from songs that would be funny or appropriate (for instance, some Phoenix Wright for _Rarity Investigates!_ or _Dude Looks Like a Lady for Brotherhooves Social.)_ 5. 5:01 Filthy's wife is Spoiled Rich? I'm guessing that her maiden name was something that rhymed with that... 6. 5:38 "How did she win last time?" The same way Sunset won, probably. Smear campaigns. 7. 6:36 "When has she ever had a song?" Diamond did get a few lines in the opening song of Pinkie Pride. 8. 10:23 Spoiled Rich: "Why are you making _that_ face? _That_ is _not_ the face of a winner." Says the mare whose face would lose a beauty contest to Ms. Harshwhinny. 9. 13:28 "This is like that party that Trixie does not want to go to. At all!" Did any of you make a blind commentary for Turnabout Storm, by any chance? 10. 16:05 CMC: "STOP!... WAIT!... LISTEN!..." Was that a Navi reference??? 11. 19:33 "Did her cutie mark just glow?" Why does this show keep making us stare at underaged ponies' butts? This just feels wrong! 12. 20:07 "I feel like they missed a few scenes there." Probably because they had to make room for the *glorious conclusion!* 13. 21:51 We finally got to see Derpy on the job! 14. 22:36 "You know, I'm going to be listening to this music for a loooong time." I can hardly wait for all the fan covers and remixes. 15. 24:50 "You can't really have the same cutie mark." Unless it's an hourglass. ;) I think having others there with you to lighten the mood and chat it up may have saved you from weeping on camera during this. The feels of this one hit you a little stronger when watching it alone.
+Narrator007 4. Yeah, I did consider that. Turning the volume down seems to be working pretty well so far though. 6. Good point. 7. Ah, yeah you're right. Forgot about that. 9. Unfortunately no. Turnabout Storm was one of the things that got me into MLP, and I didn't think of doing blind commentaries until quite some time after I'd already finished it (and seasons 1-4 of the show for that matter). And I only discovered Turnabout Storm because David and Kristina were already watching it, so they've both seen it too. 12. Yeah, 20 minute episode. _Magical Mystery Cure_ had the same problem; so much content to jam into a single episode. Still absolutely amazing though! 13. Oh, good point: mail carrier! I guess that is the first time it's actually been shown in the show. =D I guess that's just one of those bits of fannon that's been so ingrained in me that I didn't even notice. "Ah, Derpy's delivering mail. Of course that's what she's doing, it's her job. Nothing usual there." XD 15. Different incarnations of the same pony don't count! ;-P And yeah, having three of us really adds a lot of energy to these reactions.
+PonyWatch on their size, my theory is that why THEY are blank flanks while other ponies arn't is their age, if I remember right they are about the same age as diamond Tiara and the others so at the age they should have their cutie marks.
EP 18 I fucking adore this amazing episode. 1st I learned that the title is a reference to Indiana Jones. I love how it begins with a really great song called We’ll make our Mark. I love how Pipsqueak comes to the CMC for help. I love how Sweetie Belle helps him give a high-hoof with her magic. I love the continuity with the season 4 finale showing that Tirek damaged more than just the library. I love that Pip wants to do something constructive while Diamond Tiara just wants to be frivolous. I love how we find out her mother Spoiled Rich is a member of the school board because it explains why Cheerilee never calls Diamond Tiara out on her shit. I love how the other kids even Silver Spoon are actually realizing they don’t have to listen to Diamond Tiara. I love the song that comes next because it has Diamond Tiara, Silver Spoon and the CMC singing. I love how Diamond Tiara only got one vote from herself. Wow Silver Spoon really took her to town didn’t she? I love how the CMC decide to check on Diamond Tiara because it shows how nice they are. I can’t believe how much of a horrible bitch Diamond Tiara’s mother Spoiled Rich is and it explains why DT acts the way she does. Also does Diamond Tiara's father Filthy Rich know how her mother treats her because he always seems like a nice enough pony. The song Diamond Tiara sings The Pony I Want to Be is amazing. I like that Diamond Tiara is another pony who doesn’t understand her cutie mark like Trouble Shoes. I am impressed that this show made me feel sorry for Diamond Tiara and want to help her. I love how the CMC decide to help Diamond Tiara by offering friendship. I like how Diamond Tiara sounds like Sweetie Belle when she says “really?”. I love how much of a Tsundere Diamond Tiara is when agreeing to hang out with the CMC. I love how Diamond Tiara repeats what Twilight Sparkle said about the CMC during Twilight Time that not having a cutie Mark gives you Unlimited potential. I love how Diamond Tiara was starting to change and then Pipsqueak interrupts. It's no surprise the playground supplies were denied with Spoiled Rich being a member. I love the song Light of your Cutie Mark because of how intense it is and how synchronized the CMC were when singing. I also love how we can see the turmoil going on in Diamond Tiara's head just by her facial expressions. Spoiled Rich is a classist someone who looks down on social classes they consider below them. I love how Diamond Tiara stands up to her mother with a burn that no amount of magic or science can heal. I love how the cutie mark she has is for a talent for leading by helping create a new playground. I love how she boosts the confidence of ponies with secret talents by having them help with the playground. I love the reprise of The Pony I Want to Be because of the animation and how it shows how great understanding your cutie mark is. I love how the CMC’s talent is to help other ponies find their special talents. Also I know the animators might have just wanted to make it impressive but I think there is something special about how they got very similar cutie marks at the same time. I completely worship the rest of the episode. I love how every pony in town happy for the CMC getting their cutie marks. I love how they acknowledged Applejack and Applebloom's parents are dead when Applejack says their parents would have been proud of her. I love how Rainbow Dash and Rarity congratulate Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle. I love how Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Rarity all sing to the CMC. I love how at the end of the episode a new photo is sent to Celestia and Luna. I love all the crazy faces in this episode that will surely inspire new memes. I love all the new young ponies we see in this episode including more of Button Mash. I have a theory that ponies from different parts of the world have different characteristics which explains why Pipsqueak is smaller than other ponies we see and has brown spots on his coat. I said that episode 9 was the perfect episode but no episode 18 is. >-∞-
+Supermonaman SuperMonaman Oh, I thought Diamond was saying she lost by only one vote, not that she only got one vote total. Your interpretation makes way more sense.
+Andrew Meyer Yes. This also explains why Miss Cheerilee was so confident that there's no need for a recount. (I guess any pony in Equestria can count to one :D )
19:39 That gave me the feels: Diamond Tiara singing while the camera gives it a dramatic angle. 19:44 “My past is not today.” The sun finishing the picture!
I'm surprised that nobody has noticed that the cloud of dust and galloping foals that leaves the schoolhouse just before the CMC invite DT to their clubhouse says many things, one of them is "I'm SO sorry!" Why would a foal say "I'm SO sorry!"?
10:50 Made me chuckle but it looks like the joke went over your heads. Her mother was talking about how rich ponies need to always think about their social standing and in walks Fancy Pants with his trophy wife :D
+Tanerion actually we still don't know if thats canon but whatever but yeah i think i figured out why they are in ponyville besides the little cameo they did to visit a certain unicorn pony, that lives in ponyville.
Brony Time I guess it depends on why you're watching the commentary in the first place. If your sole reason for watching is to see the commentator's reaction to the big reveal then yeah it's pretty pointless. Personally, I think there's a bit more to these commentaries than that though.
+StarstormVGN Within a day of each other yes, but not really the exact same time. For example, Pinkie didn't get hers until the day after the Rainboom.
I know this is VERY late (I like watching videos back years later whenever I can), but Diamond Tiara imbodies basically something I always believed in.. if someone young or really anyone is showing bad behaviours especially very severe ones people should question their backgrounds more rather than just looking at the basic image seen in front of you. Like their family environment, their local environment and even their educational environment.. people may not always like them but people including bullies are STILL human, they aren't any different than the person their bully and often times the bullies are missing something essential to everyday life. Idk... just something to think about, rather than just seeing a bad person, why not question WHY are they doing those things? Why are they acting a certain way? Even why are they targeting a certain person or group?
+Astral Haze Hard to say. My opinion might be a bit overinflated at the moment since we watched this one so recently, but right now I'd put it in my top 5 for sure. Kinda hard to pick a favorite though. _Slice of Life_ is also in that list, and also probably _The Return of Harmony_, _Bridle Gossip_, _A Canterlot Wedding_, _Magical Mystery Cure_... wait. I just named more than 5 didn't I? Dang it! ;-)
I don't think this can be called a reaktion video and not because you knew the main spoiler, but rather you talked atop of the songs which explained the story! "is she blackmailing them? -don't know" - you would have known, if you listened...and than you could have reacted to it.
+Fuu Hoji Heh, well we do have to talk _sometime_, otherwise it wouldn't be a reaction video either would it? ;-) For the specific example you mentioned, I think that statement was more meant to express disbelief at Diamond Tiara's campaign strategy than to be a serious question about what was happening on the screen at that very moment in time.
Meta commentary! Some of the things I wanted to say while watching this I couldn't because I needed to avoid spoiling David on the big surprise, so I'm just going to watch our commentary and leave my comments here! ;-) 1. 0:24 _Cringe_. These intros. >_< Eh whatever. We have fun with it I guess. 2. 1:14 Idk, maybe if we could have recorded sooner we would have avoided it. But man, spoilers everywhere! 3. 1:16 Saw this in my RSS reader feed: ask-thecrusaders.tumblr.com/post/130892655899/so-now-that-they-got-their-cutie-marks-what-does So yeah, that kinda got me. XD 4. 2:03 No you won't David. Your mind will be too busy being totally blown. ;-) 5. 2:50 What I was trying to say there is that with all the things they tried, their entire clubhouse should be plastered with those pages. ;-) 6. 2:55 And at that moment, I was like: "you have no idea". ;-) 7. 4:01 Gotta remember to check when we watch the new episode today whether they changed the theme song. The CMC don't have their marks in that photo. 8. 4:34 Ah, Tirek wrecked their playground equipment. I missed that part. I wonder if that was shown in previous episodes... 9. 6:05 I think it's called _The Cafeteria Song_. 10. 6:33 This ain't no Diamond Tiara song! Just wait 'til the next one! ;-) 11. 7:18 You see, in a secret ballot election it's impossible for anyone to prove who they voted for. So even if Diamond Tiara is blackmailing someone, they can still just vote against her and claim they voted for her. Though I suppose they could still vote for her out of fear of what she might do to all of them if she loses... 12. 8:06 That would have been such a good line if Diamond Tiara hadn't interrupted her. XD 13. 9:08 Me: "Nope" Internally: "Sure, no cutie marks... yet." :3 14. 13:49 Wow. Fannon confirmed! People have been speculating that Diamond Tiara might not be really satisfied with her cutie mark for a while now. 15. 16:25 Man, I love this part of the song. Kinda missed how good it was when watching the first time though because I was distracted by how ridiculous the CMC looked running backwards. XD 16. 17:36 Eh, this change felt a bit sudden. Though I suppose: 20 minute episode. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 17. 18:16 I had no idea at this point how they were going to get the CMC their marks within the next 5 minutes. I was like: there's no way there's time for Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo to all discover their unique talents that fast. How the hey is this going to happen? 18. 20:11 You can kinda see on my face right there the moment when I realize that it's coming. I still didn't know how it would happen, but I could tell this was the scene. 19. 20:18 Then I was like: "Oooooo, so _that's_ what's gonna happen!" Internally: goo.gl/ivpdkR 20. 20:24 The difference between David's face and Kristina's and mine at this moment. XD 21. 20:33 Eventually? Haha, nope. :3 22. 21:15 That entire song: THE FEELS! SO HAPPY! =3 23. 28:22 Yeah, I'm still not too sure about the colors on those marks. I'll get used to it though.
+Andrew Meyer Hey, can i ask you a favor? Can you send me a PM to this youtube account? I wonder if i get a notification for that or not i have never gotten a PM in the new system, thanks Because i sent someone else a PM and im not sure she got the message, dont worry i was polite and i did not say anything mean or important to her, maybe she is busy or asleep...
+Andrew Meyer 1. Noooo! The intro was the BEST! :D No need to cringe, David has a talent for story-telling, I tell ya :D That suspense! 5. That would rather look like a madhouse than a clubhouse then 6_9 6. Yeah, so many reactors called it at the start, but then totally forgot about it during the episode just to be totally mind-blown by the ending ;D Some of them even went into denial, like "Yeah, that's totally not gonna happen" :D I have a theory why did that happen, but I'll describe it in a separate comment, because it requires some more space on its own. 7. I was wondering if the CMCs do have their marks in that one leaked episode 21, because I haven't watched it yet (I prefer waiting to watch it in the proper order). 8. After I've seen the battle with Tirek, I am seriously surprised why aren't the damages much more severe :P 12. Awww yeah! ;> But I like it that way, because the viewers are forced to think on their own, and if one does so, then it isn't that hard to guess, since it needs to rhyme with "aware" :) It's similar to those charades from puzzle books where you need to find two words which are anagrams of each other (or something similar) basing on the fact that the puzzle is rhymed (which is usually the only hint). Also, Diamond Tiara interrupting Silver Spoon was an important piece of the plot. Without that, it wouldn't culminate in such a beautiful burn a while later ;> There's one more such line in this episode, though, starting from 14:26 in your video: _Sweetie Belle:_ No! We were just worried about you when you lost your election, and then you lost your friend, and then your mom yelled at you... _Apple Bloom:_ We know you wanna change, and... we think we can- _Pip Squeak:_ HEEEEELP! :) It's quite funny how Pip Squeak accidentally finished Apple Bloom's line :) Oh, and I lost my shit at the PEGGY BANK :D (14:45) First I thought it was sort of a British accent or something, until I noticed that the damn pig has WINGS :D You know, like a Pegasus ;) Thus "peggy bank" :D (The dead fly was kind of funny too ;) ). 15. Yeah, this song is simply ingenious! (Well, all of them actually :P) But this, too, begs a separate comment. For me, though, the most touching was Diamond Tiara's solo after we met her mother (heh). When I heard the lyrics, it touched me to the core and I couldn't stop my tears :....( And yeah, running backwards was kinda odd ;) 16. Many fans say that. But I beg to differ. For me it was all well-justified and explained in the episode, just not at the surface level. I'll explain in a separate comment. 17. Hahah there's always that little chance that you could have been trolled all along by "fake spoilers" :) I remember one of the reactors had been spoiled this way once by his friend: he told him that there would be Doctor Whooves in some episode, and he so much looked forward to see it that he was mind-blown when seeing what _actually_ happened in that episode ;) I'm glad that you enjoyed the ending even after being spoiled (which again needs a big applause to Amy Keating Rogers for writing it this way). It kinda reminds me the movie "Memento" in which you knew the ending all along from the beginning, but the whole idea of the movie was to find out how did it happen and what stream of events had lead to it. 18-21. Yeah, your reactions were priceless anyway, despite the spoilers :) One doesn't simply watch it without exploding :D 23. Many people are pointing this out; that the colors of their cutie marks are "clashing with their coat colors" or something in these lines. But I think this might be made on purpose: they used color contrast to make those marks stand out more. You know, like if they wanted to say: "You've been waiting for so long, so now LOOK AT THEM!" ;J Also, those colors are actually matching their mane colors: Scootaloo's purple, Sweetie Belle's lavender-ish, and Apple Bloom's pink-red.
+Bon Bon 1. Heh, I know. I always get a little embarrassed with some of the craziness that goes on in those intro sequences though. XD 7. Yeah, good point. We're waiting to watch the episodes in the right order too, though we might watch the leaked episode a week early, after we've seen the episode before it. (Depending on whether we can find a version in good quality or not.) From what I understand though, the CMC getting their marks was a total surprise to everyone, so maybe the intro doesn't get updated... 12. Yeah, it's very reminiscent of that one line from _In Summer_ from _Frozen_. ;-) Also, good point about the conversation with Diamond Tiara and the Peggy bank. I didn't notice those. XD 17. Heh, yeah unfortunately for me the spoiler was pretty definite. Very little chance of a prank being pulled when you find out accidentally, and not from a person telling you. ;-) 23. I'm honestly no expert on design. I have no idea _why_ I feel that way, but something just seems off about the colors on their marks. They just stand out a lot, idk. Like I said though, it's something I'll probably get used to pretty quickly. Kinda like Twilight's wings: after two seasons, now she looks strange to me _without_ them! XD You know a cartoon has awesome plot progression when you can look at a character from several seasons ago and think "Wow, she looks so _young_ here!" XD
+Andrew Meyer OK, first the music, which once again shows what a genius Daniel Ingram is. Let me explain why exactly: Let's start with the musical performance going on between Diamond Tiara and the CMCs when they pursued her back to the schoolhouse. It started (15:08) with a very deep-in-mood and ominous tune, played in the Em (E minor) key. Minor keys are perceived as sad or ominous. The chord progression consists mostly of minor chords (in brackets) when Diamond Tiara sings this (15:40): [Am] You don't even know [Bm] me at all, [C] Don't understand the [Em] meaning [D] of my fall [Am] What my family would think [Bm] if I ever [C] Fail at anything. [D] But already in the next verse (15:53), one of the minor chords (Em) goes off, making the song a little bit less ominous, and the increasing crescendo seems to lead to something: [Am] I'm a diamond - that means [Bm] you'll never break [C] No matter what be the cost [D] of the path I take [Am] Whatever I have to do [Bm] to win in the end [C] [D] but it is being broken by the CMCs singing all in minor chords again (16:05), as if they tried to criticize for the "wrong path" she is taking. But then, the mood of the song suddenly changes into something more upbeating (16:18): the instruments change from sad flutes and strings into somewhat more happy guitar, but what's more important, the song switches from E minor to its *associated major key*, which is *G major* (not to be confused with the infamous YTP meme :P ). Major keys sound more "happy" and uplifting. But we're not there yet. The chord progression (V-vi-IV) still contains some minor chords, but they gradually disappear and the crescendo is apparently building into something, because it contains mostly subdominant and dominant chords, when the CMCs try to sing back: [D] We know you want [Em] friends who admire you [C] You want to be the star with all the power too [D] But there's a better way, [Em] there's a better wa-[C]-a-ay [C] [D] And now it goes all on the bright chords of the G major key (16:31), sounding very uplifting thanks to the progression starting at the tonic and going through the true cadence with only one subdominant "weak" minor second to extend it (I-ii-IV-V), so it sounds very happy and bright: [G] There's so much more [Am] still left to [C] Learn about yourself [C] [D] See the light [G] that shines in you [Am] We know you can be [C] somepony else [C] [D] The next verse (16:44) is kinda tricky ;> It is nearly identical to the previous verse's chord progression, but shifts through a dominant minor chord Bm back into the sad E minor for a while. But then, when the verse is about "freeing herself", it jumps for a moment to a very different scale with a F major chord (freeing from the scale, get it? ;> ), after which it returns to the darker mood of E minor with the "the dark". But when the CMCs start to sing about "seeing the light", it goes to the happy G major again :) Brilliant! ;> [G] You can stop right [Am] now And [C] try ano-[Bm]-ther [D] start [Em] You'll finally [F] free yourself from the [Em] dark And see the [C] light And see the [D] light of your cutie mark. But we know that Diamond Tiara chose the dark path at this moment (16:58), and the music reflects that by going back to the ominous E minor key. ~~~ Another neat trick is with Diamond Tiara's last song (reprise) at 18:50:It is the exact same melody she sang after meeting with her mother, but now it is played _staccato_ with quicker tempo and more major (happy) chords, which makes it sound more happy and uplifting. But what's more interesting about this song is what comes in at 19:19: The song slowly shifts from its normal key (A major) through Bm, C, D, and finally lands in G major - the same exact key the CMCs were singing in during the pursuit. That's because it is the same exact motif! :D But now Diamond Tiara is singing it: about seeing the light which shins in her (when her cutie marks glows for a moment at 19:33; I'll write more about it in a separate comment). This is a sneaky way to show us that *the conditioning is over* :D and *Diamond Tiara has now fully accepted the philosophy received from the CMCs during the pursuit*. She pretty much repeats what they taught her :) Brilliant! :> ~~~ The last interesting thing about the music is that the episode starts with the same song which it ends with, "closing the circle" as it were, with a beautiful reprise, which is an extended version of the song from the beginning. If all of that isn't ingenious, then I don't know what is :>
+Caian Clasen No, it was just me in a disguise, checking up the G8 ponies meeting, and making sure everything goes as Princess Celestia has planned about the CMCs getting their cutie marks ;) Just kidding ;)
I still call this 'The Oprah' episode, since everything people wanted happened:
- Cutie Marks
- Diamond Tiara character development
- Mention of the Apple parents

@@chaoslady9784 correct
28:47 I think there's more into this title.
I must admit, when I first saw it, my first thought was: "Who's Mark and why is he lost?" :D
Then of course I realized the obvious Indiana Jones reference, actually a mix of two: "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "The Last Crusade".
But after I watched the episode several times, it finally hit me:
The entire episode is about *finding somepony's lost cutie mark* :> And no, it is not about the CMCs getting _their_ cutie marks, because they haven't got any to begin with, so they couldn't be "lost", but rather "undiscovered".
+Bon Bon That's true. They were kind of crusading for Diamond Tiara's cutie mark throughout this episode, in a manner of speaking.
+Bon Bon and hence the cutie mark glowing cause she found her true self as she sings/says" my cutie mark has set me free" i thought it was that as well so AGREED
+Bon Bon That's EXACTLY what I was thinking!!!!
well said
Bon Bon, you kinda miss the point. After the cutie mark crusaders helped Diamond Taira find her talent once again, they got their cutie marks that their willing to help fillies find their talent
When RD talks to Scootaloo always makes me think of Sonic and Tails's history, the feels man...
First _Slice of Life_ and now this!?! Season 5 has a lot of amazing episodes!
+Christian Galvan Eh, yeah I guess that would work. I'll give it a shot.
***** Yeah I know. It'll probably just be blocked in Germany. _What More is Out There_ is really the only reason it's blocked globally.
Andrew Meyer I don't like the episode Slice of Life
Don't forget Tanks For The Memories
It makes sense that Luna would be informed of this as soon as possible after all she did for the girls
Just a heads up, the talking level won't affect copyright. :P
And all Hasbro does is monetize the video if they detect it, they won't block it.
Glad you guys liked it, great reaction
Eyup, they totally, Pacificad, Diamond
When did anyone else ever get their marks at the same time? *hintSonicRainboomhint* ;)
And yeah their marks appeared pretty grandly, what if they eventually get called by the cutie map too? Would be cool :D
+Link DeWitt Yeah, I did think about that. It wasn't quite the exact same time for the Mane 6 though. For example, Applejack didn't get her mark until she went home to Sweet Apple Acres, and Pinkie didn't get hers until the day after the boom.
+Andrew Meyer it is interesting that the way they got them thought with the light lifting them into the air i wonder what that was all about
Link DeWitt that’d be amazing
And so now they have.
Link DeWitt that would be AWESOME!
if the Mane 6 is all about friendship, the Cutie Mark Crusaders are all about identity
Emotional episode number 2 in a row!
This one still makes me cry! And I've seen it upwards of 50 times!
i'm glad you like all the songs, not critical of them.....the way i not get spoilers is i stay off ALL social media until i watch the episode
I remember this episode it made me cry!
22:35 like 10 years later and I still listen to this music! Makes me cry a lot!
Finally you made the most epic reaction video ,thank you so much.
I'm still not over how they really gave Diamond Tiara the best song in the series and then never used her again
Finally! Sorry it took us so long to get this out. We didn't get a chance to record until Monday, and then we were busy with school throughout the week and weren't able to finish editing everything until Thursday, then it took two days to render and upload. O.o
Also, Andrew and Kristina would like to apologise for getting spoiled on the big surprise this episode.
Internet is simply too fast :P
I'm glad you guys took so much care to avoid spoiling David.
So yeah, this particular revelation was pretty hard to avoid. ;-)
+PonyWatch
This is the perfect size group to watch the perfect episode with. Three commentators for three crusaders.
1. 2:49 DeLoreans are canon!
(While checking on the spelling of DeLorean, I came across this really interesting article on the vehicle's history. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DeLorean_DMC-12 )
2. 2:58 "Dude, this is like Magical Mystery Cure all over again. opening song and everything."
You had no idea just how right you would be.
3. 3:31 "Oh look at that, Pip can't even reach!"
White colts can't jump. ;)
4. 3:55 (About the theme) "I don't want to mute it completely because then it'll be really awkward..."
Have you thought about replacing the theme song audio with some music of your own for the background sound? You could either showcase some fan music, or use clips from songs that would be funny or appropriate (for instance, some Phoenix Wright for _Rarity Investigates!_ or _Dude Looks Like a Lady for Brotherhooves Social.)_
5. 5:01 Filthy's wife is Spoiled Rich? I'm guessing that her maiden name was something that rhymed with that...
6. 5:38 "How did she win last time?"
The same way Sunset won, probably. Smear campaigns.
7. 6:36 "When has she ever had a song?"
Diamond did get a few lines in the opening song of Pinkie Pride.
8. 10:23 Spoiled Rich: "Why are you making _that_ face? _That_ is _not_ the face of a winner."
Says the mare whose face would lose a beauty contest to Ms. Harshwhinny.
9. 13:28 "This is like that party that Trixie does not want to go to. At all!"
Did any of you make a blind commentary for Turnabout Storm, by any chance?
10. 16:05 CMC: "STOP!... WAIT!... LISTEN!..."
Was that a Navi reference???
11. 19:33 "Did her cutie mark just glow?"
Why does this show keep making us stare at underaged ponies' butts? This just feels wrong!
12. 20:07 "I feel like they missed a few scenes there."
Probably because they had to make room for the *glorious conclusion!*
13. 21:51 We finally got to see Derpy on the job!
14. 22:36 "You know, I'm going to be listening to this music for a loooong time."
I can hardly wait for all the fan covers and remixes.
15. 24:50 "You can't really have the same cutie mark."
Unless it's an hourglass. ;)
I think having others there with you to lighten the mood and chat it up may have saved you from weeping on camera during this.
Nothing usual there." XD
15. Different incarnations of the same pony don't count! ;-P
And yeah, having three of us really adds a lot of energy to these reactions.
+PonyWatch on their size, my theory is that why THEY are blank flanks while other ponies arn't is their age, if I remember right they are about the same age as diamond Tiara and the others so at the age they should have their cutie marks.
and this was the last diamond tiara's episode, but she had a really good goodbye ;)
20:35 CMC'S CUTIE MARKSSSSSSSSS YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Bon Bon Yeah, and it explains how she knew Silver Spoon didn't vote for her, given that ballots are supposed to be anonymous.
*Diamonds Tiara cutie Mark is not to rule over others but to lead others instead*
19:39 That gave me the feels: Diamond Tiara singing while the camera gives it a dramatic angle.
19:44 “My past is not today.” The sun finishing the picture!
The two of you are like pinkie in the next episode lol!
+thespeedyyoshi Haha, yep. Just saw that episode; we were making comparisons to our reaction to this episode like the whole way through. XD
lol
The opening was awesome
21:02 I remember I screamed from happiness "FINALLY!!!"
The Mane 6 got their marks at basically the same time.
+nickthestick26 Spaced out over a period of about a day, yes. The CMC got theirs at the _exact_ same time though.
Yeah I like how they have a common mission. It suits them very well.
Bruh spoilers is always hard to avoid them.
I'm surprised that nobody has noticed that the cloud of dust and galloping foals that leaves the schoolhouse just before the CMC invite DT to their clubhouse says many things, one of them is "I'm SO sorry!"
Why would a foal say "I'm SO sorry!"?
Yaaaay it's here
I caught that Pacifica comment, you don't get anything passed me
one by one each fraction of the fan fiction of The MLP community shall fall into the fire pite that the MLP Creators created
Crusaders of the Lost Mark = EQG 1 done right...Mind=blown
That beginning intro, oh my gosh. I died laughing
the cuteness is over 9000!
#Vote Diamond Tiara for President 2016
10:50 Made me chuckle but it looks like the joke went over your heads.
Her mother was talking about how rich ponies need to always think about their social standing and in walks Fancy Pants with his trophy wife :D
+Tanerion actually we still don't know if thats canon but whatever but yeah i think i figured out why they are in ponyville besides the little cameo they did to visit a certain unicorn pony, that lives in ponyville.
iloveowls90 The creators of the series joke around with plenty of things that aren't official canon. Doesn't need to be canon to be a good joke.
yep and that was perfect timing for them to pass by!
this 4 years late because i just remembered her cutie mark means unbreakable leadership in my opinion
2 people were spoiled dang i really wanted to watch this
+Brony Time Yeah, sorry about that. Personally I think the commentary turned out well regardless, but eh. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Andrew Meyer ya but this episode you can't watch a group with literally a quarter of them spoiled
Brony Time I guess it depends on why you're watching the commentary in the first place. If your sole reason for watching is to see the commentator's reaction to the big reveal then yeah it's pretty pointless. Personally, I think there's a bit more to these commentaries than that though.
when I said burn u guys also said burn
First time watching you so here is my reaction to you. Look it´s the Warner brothers and there sister dot.
The first part was solo funny hahaha I love it
I'm surprised it's not in the comments but it's worth pointing out that the episode aired on the 5th anniversary of the show.
I didn't get spoiled whoohoo :D
ya all look like vamps with the white skin XD, nice video
21:49 derpy hooves?
The Mane 6 all got their cutie marks at the same time. Granted they were miles apart from each other when it happened, but still. =p
+StarstormVGN Within a day of each other yes, but not really the exact same time. For example, Pinkie didn't get hers until the day after the Rainboom.
Yay
So how far up is this episode on your top 5 episodes lists?
+Astral Haze Hard to say. My opinion might be a bit overinflated at the moment since we watched this one so recently, but right now I'd put it in my top 5 for sure. Kinda hard to pick a favorite though. _Slice of Life_ is also in that list, and also probably _The Return of Harmony_, _Bridle Gossip_, _A Canterlot Wedding_, _Magical Mystery Cure_... wait. I just named more than 5 didn't I? Dang it! ;-)
+PonyWatch, for some reason Diamond wins by blackmail
I was given a spoiler the day it came out.
They're quite annoying but in the same time it SOSOSO FUNNY
the main 6 did lol
Wuts the my little pony movie review
cool
:D
I don't think this can be called a reaktion video and not because you knew the main spoiler, but rather you talked atop of the songs which explained the story! "is she blackmailing them? -don't know" - you would have known, if you listened...and than you could have reacted to it.
+Fuu Hoji Heh, well we do have to talk _sometime_, otherwise it wouldn't be a reaction video either would it? ;-)
For the specific example you mentioned, I think that statement was more meant to express disbelief at Diamond Tiara's campaign strategy than to be a serious question about what was happening on the screen at that very moment in time.
Triplets?
No.
Meta commentary! Some of the things I wanted to say while watching this I couldn't because I needed to avoid spoiling David on the big surprise, so I'm just going to watch our commentary and leave my comments here! ;-)
1. 0:24 _Cringe_.
XD
4. 2:03 No you won't David. Your mind will be too busy being totally blown. ;-)
5. 2:50 What I was trying to say there is that with all the things they tried, their entire clubhouse should be plastered with those pages. ;-)
6. 2:55 And at that moment, I was like: "you have no idea". ;-)
7. 4:01 Gotta remember to check when we watch the new episode today whether they changed the theme song.
Just wait 'til the next one! ;-)
11. 7:18 You see, in a secret ballot election it's impossible for anyone to prove who they voted for.
XD
13. 9:08 Me: "Nope" Internally: "Sure, no cutie marks... yet." :3
XD
16. 17:36 Eh, this change felt a bit sudden. Though I suppose: 20 minute episode. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
17. 18:16 I had no idea at this point how they were going to get the CMC their marks within the next 5 minutes.
19. 20:18 Then I was like: "Oooooo, so _that's_ what's gonna happen!" Internally: goo.gl/ivpdkR
20. 20:24 The difference between David's face and Kristina's and mine at this moment. XD
21. 20:33 Eventually? Haha, nope. :3
22. 21:15 That entire song: THE FEELS! SO HAPPY! =3
23. 28:22 Yeah, I'm still not too sure about the colors on those marks. I'll get used to it though.
+Andrew Meyer Hey, can i ask you a favor? Can you send me a PM to this youtube account? I wonder if i get a notification for that or not i have never gotten a PM in the new system, thanks
Because i sent someone else a PM and im not sure she got the message, dont worry i was polite and i did not say anything mean or important to her, maybe she is busy or asleep...
+Breton Charles Sure, no problem.
+Andrew Meyer
1. Noooo! The intro was the BEST! :D No need to cringe, David has a talent for story-telling, I tell ya :D That suspense!
5. That would rather look like a madhouse than a clubhouse then 6_9
8. After I've seen the battle with Tirek, I am seriously surprised why aren't the damages much more severe :P
12. Awww yeah! ;> But I like it that way, because the viewers are forced to think on their own, and if one does so, then it isn't that hard to guess, since it needs to rhyme with "aware" :) It's similar to those charades from puzzle books where you need to find two words which are anagrams of each other (or something similar) basing on the fact that the puzzle is rhymed (which is usually the only hint).
Also, Diamond Tiara interrupting Silver Spoon was an important piece of the plot. Without that, it wouldn't culminate in such a beautiful burn a while later ;>
There's one more such line in this episode, though, starting from 14:26 in your video:
_Sweetie Belle:_ No! We were just worried about you when you lost your election, and then you lost your friend, and then your mom yelled at you...
_Apple Bloom:_ We know you wanna change, and... we think we can-
_Pip Squeak:_ HEEEEELP!
:)
It's quite funny how Pip Squeak accidentally finished Apple Bloom's line :)
Oh, and I lost my shit at the PEGGY BANK :D (14:45)
First I thought it was sort of a British accent or something, until I noticed that the damn pig has WINGS :D You know, like a Pegasus ;) Thus "peggy bank" :D (The dead fly was kind of funny too ;) ).
15. Yeah, this song is simply ingenious! (Well, all of them actually :P) But this, too, begs a separate comment.
For me, though, the most touching was Diamond Tiara's solo after we met her mother (heh). When I heard the lyrics, it touched me to the core and I couldn't stop my tears :....(
And yeah, running backwards was kinda odd ;)
16. Many fans say that. But I beg to differ. For me it was all well-justified and explained in the episode, just not at the surface level. I'll explain in a separate comment.
17. Hahah there's always that little chance that you could have been trolled all along by "fake spoilers" :) I remember one of the reactors had been spoiled this way once by his friend: he told him that there would be Doctor Whooves in some episode, and he so much looked forward to see it that he was mind-blown when seeing what _actually_ happened in that episode ;)
I'm glad that you enjoyed the ending even after being spoiled (which again needs a big applause to Amy Keating Rogers for writing it this way). It kinda reminds me the movie "Memento" in which you knew the ending all along from the beginning, but the whole idea of the movie was to find out how did it happen and what stream of events had lead to it.
18-21. Yeah, your reactions were priceless anyway, despite the spoilers :) One doesn't simply watch it without exploding :D
23. Many people are pointing this out; that the colors of their cutie marks are "clashing with their coat colors" or something in these lines. But I think this might be made on purpose: they used color contrast to make those marks stand out more. You know, like if they wanted to say: "You've been waiting for so long, so now LOOK AT THEM!" ;J
Also, those colors are actually matching their mane colors: Scootaloo's purple, Sweetie Belle's lavender-ish, and Apple Bloom's pink-red.
+Bon Bon 1. Heh, I know. I always get a little embarrassed with some of the craziness that goes on in those intro sequences though. XD
XD
17. Heh, yeah unfortunately for me the spoiler was pretty definite. Very little chance of a prank being pulled when you find out accidentally, and not from a person telling you. ;-)
Let me explain why exactly:
Let's start with the musical performance going on between Diamond Tiara and the CMCs when they pursued her back to the schoolhouse. It started (15:08) with a very deep-in-mood and ominous tune, played in the Em (E minor) key. Minor keys are perceived as sad or ominous. The chord progression consists mostly of minor chords (in brackets) when Diamond Tiara sings this (15:40):
[Am] You don't even know [Bm] me at all,
[C] Don't understand the [Em] meaning [D] of my fall
[Am] What my family would think [Bm] if I ever
[C] Fail at anything. [D]
But already in the next verse (15:53), one of the minor chords (Em) goes off, making the song a little bit less ominous, and the increasing crescendo seems to lead to something:
[Am] I'm a diamond - that means [Bm] you'll never break
[C] No matter what be the cost [D] of the path I take
[Am] Whatever I have to do
[Bm] to win in the end [C] [D]
but it is being broken by the CMCs singing all in minor chords again (16:05), as if they tried to criticize for the "wrong path" she is taking.
The chord progression (V-vi-IV) still contains some minor chords, but they gradually disappear and the crescendo is apparently building into something, because it contains mostly subdominant and dominant chords, when the CMCs try to sing back:
[D] We know you want [Em] friends who admire you
[C] You want to be the star with all the power too
[D] But there's a better way, [Em] there's a better wa-[C]-a-ay [C] [D]
And now it goes all on the bright chords of the G major key (16:31), sounding very uplifting thanks to the progression starting at the tonic and going through the true cadence with only one subdominant "weak" minor second to extend it (I-ii-IV-V), so it sounds very happy and bright:
[G] There's so much more [Am] still left to
[C] Learn about yourself [C]
[D] See the light [G] that shines in you [Am]
We know you can be [C] somepony else [C] [D]
The next verse (16:44) is kinda tricky ;> It is nearly identical to the previous verse's chord progression, but shifts through a dominant minor chord Bm back into the sad E minor for a while. But then, when the verse is about "freeing herself", it jumps for a moment to a very different scale with a F major chord (freeing from the scale, get it? ;> ), after which it returns to the darker mood of E minor with the "the dark". But when the CMCs start to sing about "seeing the light", it goes to the happy G major again :) Brilliant! ;>
[G] You can stop right [Am] now
And [C] try ano-[Bm]-ther [D] start [Em]
You'll finally [F] free yourself from the [Em] dark
And see the [C] light
And see the [D] light of your cutie mark.
But we know that Diamond Tiara chose the dark path at this moment (16:58), and the music reflects that by going back to the ominous E minor key.

Another neat trick is with Diamond Tiara's last song (reprise) at 18:50:It is the exact same melody she sang after meeting with her mother, but now it is played _staccato_ with quicker tempo and more major (happy) chords, which makes it sound more happy and uplifting. :>

The last interesting thing about the music is that the episode starts with the same song which it ends with, "closing the circle" as it were, with a beautiful reprise, which is an extended version of the song from the beginning.
If all of that isn't ingenious, then I don't know what is :>

+Caian Clasen No, it was just me in a disguise, checking up the G8 ponies meeting, and making sure everything goes as Princess Celestia has planned about the CMCs getting their cutie marks ;)
Just kidding ;)
