Yes Peter it's so funny to walk barefoot! I didn't know that there was still a peace of iron curtain not scrapped. In 1981 i travelled with a camping car through Austria during 3 weeks and i stopped for 2 nights just in front of iron curtain at the border near Gmund. A beautiful day hiking video with some history included. The preservation of the barbed wire at the border is a stark reminder of "how it once was". In early 1990s I drove a rental car from Vienna to my Grandfather's birthplace in Kobyli and had to pass through formal Czech/Austria border crossings, so different now.
Thanks, Don! Look at Peter with his sexy new hair cut and hair color. :-) Thanks for the great education today. I had no clue about "free boarders" in Europe. My favourite off-duty pastime was mountain walking in the Alps & borderlands of Austria, Switzerland and Italy. Getting to the Alps - at a time when the borders were all starting to open up - I would need to travel via Bavaria and along the Czech border. I remember visiting Hardegg Castle and the newly created Thayatal National Park. I also remember the border bridge crossing into Czech Republic and the guards. Nordics and the 'continent' and 'continental' Europe are worlds apart - don't you agree? Edit: This issue could be discussed for ever though. It's so sad though that border between Finland and Russia is deadly still.
You're right! We never really thought about it but you are kinda isolated in Finland. You still have Russia nearby though if you feel like crossing borders 😃

Hi guys! Thanks for sharing your life... Some of what I really love about your videos is that I feel we are pretty similar. For ex I love being bare foot... Blessings and hope you come to Colombia some day
Love your trip! Love seeing the borders! This area reminds me a bit of Smoky National Park in North Carolina/Tennessee borders. Visit America, so you can cross more state borders! :)
@@DeafSeattleGuy36 Probably not. UK left the EU at the beginning of this year (first country ever to do so) and there are some other countries that are not interested in joining.
No borders something I'll miss when Brexit finally triggers. I wonder how different the cross-border regions are considering how long the Republic, Slovakia & Austria shared the same rulers & surprised by just how close countries are, such as Slovakia bordering Ukraine I own to knowing more Czech/Bohemian history than Slovak.
At least the UK was never part of the Schengen zone so it won't hurt as much :) I feel like there are no big differences when you cross borders between different countries since the regions often share history, not only in our case. We are small countries here in the east so everything's close 😁

That's interesting, I had no idea Mexico was briefly ruled by a Habsburg! We shared the same oppressors for a bit 😄 The trip to Austria was really lovely, we hope we'll be able to visit some cool places this summer as well 😊
Grüß Gott - I’m a retired ex-serviceman (UK RAF) and in the 1990’s served on a NATO airbase in South Germany. The video brought back many exhausting and happy memories of the people, countryside and paths you were walking along - so thank you guys - you make an old man very happy 🤭
And Tommy - nice to see in this video you have ‘come out’ of the Potter closet. Awesome ‘leviosa’ spell at video point 20:20. For the uninitiated see th-cam.com/video/Qgr4dcsY-60/w-d-xo.html
Big hug - David
Grüß Gott David 😊 So interesting that you served here and know the area! We would never have guessed that any of our viewers has ever been to Hardegg! We are happy we could bring back many memories, must have been so cool to see it again.
Hello from Edinburgh UK, just found your channel yesterday and have already subscribed. You guys are a cute couple and very funny 😄. Would love to see you both doing more challenges, like the yoga challenge lol.
Hi Tom, welcome to our channel! Glad you're enjoying our videos. We're not big on challenges although yoga wouldn't be too bad to try! Let's see what we're gonna film during winter when there's not much to do at our country house 😊
@@tommyandpeter ha, brilliant. Love the accents btw. X
@@Thomas_Wedderburn Aww thanks! Wish we loved them, too 😄
❤️🇫🇮
When I worked in Vilnius I found the contrast of living 'in the continent' vs. being 'a nordic and isolated via sea, i.e. Finland'
always so fascinating.
@@tommyandpeter You are so cute 😀 The place you visited looks similar were I live in lol
@@toms5996 It sounds like we should visit Finland sometime if it looks this beautiful 😊
Beautiful! Is that castle open? Can you go in it? I bet those hills are so pretty in the fall when the leaves change colors. It was nice watching you two having fun and enjoying yourselves.
🌴☀️🌴
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, you can go on a tour of the castle but it was closed when we were there. Maybe we should re-visit the place in the fall to see the colorful hills 😊
Hi guys! Thanks for sharing your life... Some of what I really love about your videos is that I feel we are pretty similar. For ex I love being bare foot... Blessings and hope you come to Colombia some day
Nice to see another barefooter 😁 We've never been to South America but we love traveling so you never know 😊
Love your trip! Love seeing the borders! This area reminds me a bit of Smoky National Park in North Carolina/Tennessee borders. Visit America, so you can cross more state borders! :)
We've been to several US states already! You're right, crossing your state borders is similar to crossing country borders in Europe 😃
@@tommyandpeter do you think one day every country in Europe will be in EU?
@@DeafSeattleGuy36 Probably not. UK left the EU at the beginning of this year (first country ever to do so) and there are some other countries that are not interested in joining.
You've done more international travel in 2020 than I have...
Haha that might be true for many people this year sadly.
How old are you guys? If you guys don't mind me asking
Peter is 34 and Tommy 36 🙂 We talked about our age in one of our previous Q&A videos, you can check it out, it's called What you wanted to know 😉
Cross borders and come to Italy, you are invited to have pizza togheter....😘 🇮🇹 🏳️🌈
Great, we love pizza! 😁 And we love Italy, we've already visited it several times 😊
@@tommyandpeter I'm glad you love my country. Anyway just in case you decide to come again let me know. The invitation doesn't expire. 😘 🇮🇹
@@giuseppedichiaro2568 Thanks for the invitation 🤗

When you are hiking or traveling in Europe do you encounter any homophobia?
No, we don't, fortunately. We've never had any issues anywhere we traveled. Sometimes people automatically assume we're straight, like at a few hotels/hostels at the reception when they were pointing out that we accidentally booked a double bed instead of two singles but that's about it 😃
