As a Mexican is fun to see how different traditions are around Christmas day, in different parts of Mexico.
Since you got the little baby, you have to make tamales on February 2, is the tradition :)

The Family Fudge Zoha is correct, that isn’t a thing in England, maybe a very very long time ago (it says in ‘medieval’ times in the wikipedia article which was in the 1200s-1500s ) but not now. Good try though, the thought was there. Maybe non-alcoholic mulled wine would of been a better choice.

Ok you definitely win best mom ever! I’m a new watcher as of yesterday! How did you get so culturalized, and how did you get your kids to have such good attitudes on trying new foods?? I don’t have kids yet but my plan is to do the same! My philosophy is Try everything at least once and never settle for thinking that your culture is the best one, that way your mind and heart are willing to accept the beautiful luxuries and hidden gems all other countries have to offer. Love your take on how to teach this with lunches!

Here in Portugal we have a Christmas Eve dinner called “consoada” where we traditionally eat consists of codfish with several kinds of green cabbage and kale, boiled eggs and baked potatoes and than we accompany it with different kinds of shell fish (my family prefers to just do octopus ‘á lagareiro’ instead of a selection of shellfish), than after Christmas Eve dinner we go to this traditional catholic service called “missa do galo” or “mass of the rooster”, when we come back around midnight, we all kiss baby Jesus before putting it back in the nativity scene, that’s when the Christmas presents exchange happens, because no baby Jesus in the nativity scene means no presents (here we open family gifts at midnight and than once again in the morning, those are the gifts that baby Jesus/Santa brought ((this depends on the family too, mine, because we come from a very catholic part of portugal, Ponte de Lima and Parades de Coura, baby Jesus is the one who “brought” the presents)) . In Christmas Day we do a traditional lunch instead of a dinner, that’s when we get to eat the turkey, but more importantly that’s when we get to eat the traditional Christmas dish over here called “roupa velha” meaning “old laundry”, which is just the left overs from the cod fish cubed up and stir fried in a big pot. We also have the Christmas desserts such as Rabanadas (Fried dough soaked in wine coated in cinnamon and sugar) , aletria (sweet angel hair dessert) , Sopa dourada (golden soup), bolo rei (three kings cake), pão de ló (Portuguese sponge cake), arroz doce (rice pudding) and leite creme (egg custard, Christmas egg custard traditionally as nuts in it too)

Merry Christmas, Family Fudge! This was such fun to watch. You’re just amazing at putting these lunches together. Picking a favorite would be difficult. I’d love to see a video of lunch ideas for people on very small budgets. For those who have a very small amount to invest in lunch, variety sometimes is challenging. It would be great to see what you could do with minimal ingredients. Thanks for sharing all your ideas. They inspire me no end! 😎

It may be a strong flavor or texture profile for children that young. In America we are used to gingerbread cookies which are generally crunchy and mostly sugary instead of gingery. They usually have frosting on them as well. These cookies seemed to have a lot of different flavors and textures, and kids this young likely would have a sensory overload if not previously exposed. They are used to certain things and this was something very different for them! I think if they tried it in a few years they may enjoy it more!
I really like how their mom is exposing them to all these different cultures and cuisines though. Most American children will go really far in life without trying anything except processed American garbage which is really sad. I think for kids this young it may be a bit early for full on exposure like this though. My parents also tried to give my sisters and me foods from other places, but we started with things like cheese quesadillas and stuff, we would NOT have liked all the spices.
In all, American kids are not used to multiple flavors and textures in one piece of food. They don’t like overly spicy things either, so I think the Lebkuchen may have been a bit advanced for their tastes at their ages

I grew up with my dad always telling me to try something once, it’s how I learned I like frogs legs and mud bugs. I also LOVE my veggies, both my dad and I can just eat veggies for dinner and be happy.

I am giggling watching the UK lunch ... those yorkshire puddings look absolutely dreadful ... sorry ... but I was born in Yorkshire and they are supposed to have a light fluffy texture ... and mince pies are horrendous however they are made - but I loved all of the other lunches you served - thanks for sharing it was good fun because it shows how each of our countries are perceived xx

So I’m Mexican, ponche is the best thing to drink during the winter, very fruity taste...oh and the fruit in the ponche is edible 😊. Pozole is very very very common and very delicious during the winter or even summer 😂....the bread has a few baby Jesus dolls and if you get a slice with it, then you have to make some tamales for people. Everything seemed delicious but even better when homemade 😁....I add sour cream everytime I eat tamales 😆♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ the mexico part was very authentic

It’s a very Mexican tradition as well. Although I’ve never heard of the salad. We do the traditional “ensalada de fruita” which is made up of apples, pineapple, shredded carrots, walnuts, sweet condensed milk and sour cream.
