Hey, thanks! I really appreciate that! These runs were something I'd wanted to do for years and finally decided to do them, so I'm glad you're enjoying them! :)
Just browsing Dragon's Dogma related content recently and came across this video, very impressive! I kinda wished that two Frostwyrms spawned in the Sparyard since I've never seen a solo sorcerer fight those two at the same time. Other than silencing them and spamming Comestion I can't come up with a better strategy and would love to see how you handle it.
Lol silencing and spamming comestion is precisely how I handle it. Lol There just isn't a better way to guarantee a no hit situation. But I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The no hit runs can be frustrating, but they are super fun to do!
This outright helped me massively. Since I'm doing a hybrid leveling setup I'm using sorc for 98-200 and I was hard fucking struggling but yeah nah yeah this legit was excellent. GG 👑
Thanks! I'm glad it helped you. A lot of succeeding in this game boils down to knowing what might happen next and knowing what is effective in that situation. I couldn't tell you how many hours I've put into this game using the wrong element or damage type on enemies and thinking that they are just too strong for me when I really just needed a different tactic.
So Holy Affinity/Focused Bolt you have to just give your character a directional input and hope for the best. I find aiming the camera so that the center of the screen is where you want your focused bolts to converge works best, although it really just boils down to luck and trying to manipulate your position so that the closest target happens to be what you want to hit. As for aiming Ingle or Miasma if you start intoning a spell you can click in the right thumb stick on a controller to cast it with manual aiming. And then you just use right thumb stick to aim. I don't remember the key you have to use for PC though, it may be "Q"... I think that's how you aim with bows so it may be the same, but that may be incorrect.
@@alexsanderognev you're welcome! Glad you enjoyed the video! This game has a lot of little tricks to it that aren't well indicated in game so seeing how the community plays is a huge help with figuring stuff out.
Wait, you can aim a spell yourself (talking about High Ingle in the start of the video 2:53; also, why not a ring that makes it into Grand)? HOW!? I've always had to get close & wait for a lock on. Playing on controller. Do you cast Holy Affinity on yourself by clicking left thumb stick (perhaps the cast is automatically on you as you're solo)? New player here. Sorcerer lvl 43. The spells you're using have always provided the best results in game for me. Fun to see I was on the right track. While I'm here asking questions.. Mind to answer a few more? I'm playing sorcerer & my pawn is a strider. We are both lvl 43. Playing on hard mode. Do master & pawn have to be the same vocation to teach the AI? Or perhaps it's enough having a rift strider pawn teach my strider pawns AI? Have been currently running sorcerer, my strider pawn, rift strider pawn & rift mage pawn. Should probably add another sorcerer in the mix (spell sync) & perhaps lose the mage. Better to make my pawn into a sorcerer or keep getting rift sorcerer pawn's instead?
So free aiming spells and casting on yourself for the buffs are the same button. I want to say it is right thumb stick, but if not it is the left one (muscle memory is weird). As for your pawn. If you want to absolutely train the pawn the best you need to play the same vocation. HOWEVER that is also not necessary. The pawns will learn well enough if you or another pawn show them the weaknesses of their enemies without being the same class. Personally, when I play sorcerer I have my pawn as a strider and when I play a physical vocation I make my pawn a sorcerer. Very rarely do I actually play as the same vocation. As for fourth pawn being sorcerer or mage. The value of spell syncing is huge, whereas mage gets you access to healing, cleansing, and buffing. Typically, I find anodyne difficult to use as the pawns will often struggle to cast it in a location that remains helpful for longer than 1 seconds. I'd almost always say sorcerer is the better choice, but realistically, do whatever you find to be most fun. As a sorcerer, spell syncing is pretty awesome though, so usually that happens to not the the stronger choice and most fun for me.
@@LocalTicoBroje Thanks for your answer. Learned a lot (especially that you can free aim). I'll keep my pawn as a strider & employ a sorcerer rift pawn instead of a mage rift pawn (I've also noticed their buffing is somewhat weird).
This was awesome. With sorcerer knowing the monsters that you'll face wins you half of the fight, as those holy focused bolts are plain broken. However, I'd rather stop time for enemies with stacked Lassitudes and intoning my most destructive grand spells just to enjoy the game more. It does take a lot of time, though.
So. For focus bolt you basically just hold down the light attack button. When you do that the staff will start to gather power and glow. After like a second and a half you can let go and it will shoot out the focused bolt. If your staff is buffed with an element spell. It will take on an additional effect from it. Lightening will bounce, holy will home in, etc.
So when the arm attacks come out I just run straight backwards. They have a pretty large hit box, but they don't track very well. So I just immediately stop what I'm doing and run backwards. The trick is to run back forwards after the arms though, otherwise you'll end up against a wall and you can't do anything if he does the arms again.
Is "putting your health on critical level" against no-hit run rules or the red screen would have been too annoying to endure? Equanimity - Amplifies your Magick when you stand at death's door - At Critical Health, Magick is increased by 50% (20% in Dark Arisen).
I don't do it because it is annoying. Lol that's the only reason. You are right though. It would get a little bit more damage, but yeah. The sound effect and the red on the screen is too annoying for me. As for the rules, I don't know that there is a rule for that in no hit runs, but I didn't do these runs to adhere to anyone else's rules, I did them for me. That's why I kill everything. In most games, a no hit run allows you to run past enemies, but again. I do it the way I want.
What are your thoughts on Emphasis vs Impact? Do they stack? Got both unlocked on my sorcerer. EDIT: I guess if one is enough to reliably knockdown something, using both of them is a waste of slot.
So emphasis is designed for magical spells and impact for physical attacks so typically as a sorcerer you want emphasis. This is a little weird though because impact actually works for ingle and I think a couple other things, but the important piece is that emphasis works for maelstrom and a few other big moves which are usually more important that their knockdown works when used than ingle because of the cost of using them. If a maelstrom doesn't knock an eliminator up your upset because it took ten seconds to cast. If ingle doesn't knock something back or down it isn't a huge loss since it took like 2. Just cast it again. The buff is only 30%.
Yes. Attunement boosts magic only at 10% whereas the buff for autonomy is 20% as you mentioned. Autonomy's description suggests that it only boosts Strength and Defence (not Magic); but it is understood to actually boost both Magic and Magic Defense as well. I chose to use Attunement instead of Autonomy for two reasons. 1: it is less confusing for people to look at and see what attunement does vs autonomy and understand why I would want it on a sorcerer; and 2: with exception of Stability for Ranger all the other augments are from either Mage or Sorcerer and I thought it was more relatable to how others would play a Sorcerer. What's more, we do plenty of damage, so an additional 10% wasn't going to make the run different. But you are definitely correct. :)
Is the charged holy affinity attack hitting through the walls a bug that was patched out ? Whenever I do it I have to basically have line of sight or the wall/object blocks it
So. Only Holy Focused Bolt (when buffed and not innate to the staff) can go through terrain, but it's a little funky. I don't know if it was intended or is a bug, but it definitely isn't patched out. I'm playing with all updates on PC, but it 100% also works on the Xbox One and 360 versions. You do have to be somewhat close for it to track on, but you can aim it in a loose sense directionally.
If you have the staff core ability Focused Bolt unlocked and you hold down the light attack button your staff will gather energy. Once it is done gathering energy, when you release the button it'll shoot the focused Bolt. The focused Bolt takes different qualities based on what element the staff has been buffed with, although innate elemental buffs don't change it from the default.
Would it be better to use level one miasma to knock dragons out of the sky, since they arent going to stay in it for long anyway? I assume lvl1 would be enough to knock it out
Not sure how I didn't get a notification for this. Sorry for the late reply. I use level 2 so that it hits them a second time when they fly up. Typically I can get 2 knockdowns for 1 cast. But realistically, yes. Level 1 should work fine. :)
@@LocalTicoBroje no problems, thanks for the reply. How often does lvl2 hit the dragon a second time for you? I tend to move alot (levitation is actually a pretty good way to avoid attacks) so the dragons just move to me, missing the lvl2 miasma pool. I guess standing still would produce better results. Also, whats a good way to get off a big sorc spell during combat. I guess sorcerer has lassitude and spell sync for a reason, but training pawns for spell sync can be quite tedious.
They definitely take a bunch of damage from it and can die to one high maelstrom. They often won't get caught in it though unless you cast it before they are aware of you. If I was playing smarter I could have precast it where I thought it might spawn before hitting the trigger.
Dude, love it. You're very conversational and the run itself was rad. Looking forward to seeing more content like this. Cheers !

How do you charge the focused bolt without sending a normal attack? I play on switch and can't do that
