    STORY:
The old locomotive would pass the tar papered shack on the lone prairie every day at the same scheduled time. And the little boy was always there, faithfully standing on the embankment - giving his salute.
The brakeman on the old locomotive would wave back. They had a special bond.
But then one day, the little boy wasn't there anymore...
    THIS CHANNEL:
    _________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
    Some are famous.
    And some infamous....
    ....and some with tragic endings.

I was so afraid the train had taken his life. It's somewhat of consolation I guess, that his beloved train didn't take his life. What a kind conductor. Small things like a friendly wave between strangers can mean so much. Thank you for this story. And, what a perfect song to play with this story. I'm sure the Croce family are grateful.

Great job Ron. Brought tears as my Dad is a train guy. He was traveling from CA to Wisconsin, (age 12), he knew a lot about trains and got to talking to one of the Conductors on a stop about the train, then the train started to take off! The Conductor picked my Dad up (he has polio and couldn't run), threw him over his shoulder, caught up with the train and jumped on. He asked Dad not to tell his mother. This was about 1958. Boys & trains ❤😊

When I was a little girl, my mom used to tell us to ALWAYS wave to the train engineers at the front and in the caboose. (I just dated myself). She said those men led lonely lives going across the country seeing many people in cars waiting for them to pass by. To this day, I still wave at the train. Taught my boys to do so too. Thank you for this beautiful story on this little boy. Imagine his excitement to hear the train and running out to the track to wave. I’m sure it was a highlight in his day. God bless you, the brakeman, and this little soul.

My heart aches for the family who lost that poor gentle soul. Wish they had put his name on the cross so a stone could be put there in place. It is such an honor to have the railroad honor the friendship between the little boy and conductor by leaving the section of track there outside the fence. I love that there is a pink rosebush inside with the boy and a white one outside the fence next to the tracks. ❤

Growing up in rural Iowa my brother sister and I would run down to the fence when heard the train whistle climb up on the fence and wave. We always got a hearty wave back from the train crew. When passenger service still going they would wave also. After it passed we always imagined where all these people and freight were going. Oh how imagination would kick into overdrive. Get memories! Thanks Ron for bringing this story to life for all of us. Very meaningful to me and my sister.

This story really grabs you 😢🥺 you told it beautifully... The song, along with the gorgeous drone footage.. 💯💖💖 The boy will always be remembered... The boy waving to the train driver, and the driver waving back, probably made both of their days.. and it goes to show, it's the little things in life that fulfill your day - as when the boy didn't wave, the driver missed him, and went to see why... Thank you for telling us all about them 🙂 I also loved the train on the gravestone.. a beautiful gesture 💖💖

This is a beautiful and sad story. Love the choice of music and the fact that the nameless little boy is still remembered by people. I wonder on some moonlit nights if you listen carefully, you can hear a lonely whistle and a young boy calling out to the train. Very touching story Ron.

My grandpa rode the caboose for a living. I grew up listening to trains pass by every night as I drifted off to sleep. Grandpa has a train on his headstone. Trains are fascinating. I love the old ones best. The older the better. Great story!

Ok, now I'm crying 😭 ugly tears. This one of the most moving stories you have shared. Though his name is unknown, as well as his story, he is known to God as you had mentioned. Listen to the bird 🐦singing in the background, that's his Spirit letting us known he acknowledges you being there and sharing his story, Ron. It is a true tribute to this little guy, the railroad men who took him to their hearts and now this family and town who have come together to ensure that this memorial continues for generations to come. I can only imagine how heartbroken his parents must have felt. Bless them that they were able to keep their promise and bury him by his beloved train (and friend). 🙏😇💐

I am so hoping that someone who lives near there will visit with folks at the county courthouse and maybe be able to trace back who owned the land where the shack was and possibly be able to find the name of the little boys parents. The newspapers of that day should have had a brief story of the little boys death. Not knowing the exact dates will make it more complicated but I have researched thru newspaper articles before and much can be found. Many of them are now online to help those of us who are always looking for historical and genealogy info.

@@FacesoftheForgotten This story reminded me of E.Nesbit's ''The Railway Children''...Trains in the 19th C would have been magnificent beasties.
Even in my own childhood {1970's} My brothers and I waved at trains, from a railway bridge at Mortlake, London and it was always wonderful when a Driver waved back.
Bless this little Fella and I love how his Grave is, Windswept , with the rail next to it, still.
There are three early~mid 20th C graves in Marlborough, UK high on the Marlborough Downs, next to the Racehorse Gallops, in a very similar ''Prairie'' type grassland.
As kids, the Celtic crosses were eerie, and stood tall and visible, but now the Beech hedge encloses them entirely.
The people buried there were associated with Bonita Racing stable, and they wanted to be buried where the horses trained and galloped by, early in the mornings.
