Been to Famagusta in 2018. Incredible/unbelievable place. And its all because of politics.

Famagusta itself isn't abandoned. It falls within the Turkish side of the border. Varosha is midway between Turkish side and Cypriot side.

There are 85 ghost towns in British Columbia. Mainly they were settlements in conjunction with mineral strikes, railway projects and lumbering sites.

Just think of all that wasted housing material gone to rot while thousands of homeless people live out in the cold, wind and rain.
      😑
Our civilisation is truly an exercise in excessive waste.
FFS our ancestors were so economical they reused building materials from ancient Roman monuments.

Where the coastal cities are concerned absolutely.
Same for areas that rely on freshwater supply if the overuse problems in California aren't fixed.

@@me-wi7mr It doesn't give away anything.
Companies abandon native production for outsourcing where cheaper labour can be found.
America does not own private companies, shareholders do - there is nothing for 'America' to give away but land.

      Still moaning over having lost?
There was plenty of US industry production outsourcing during Republican presidential terms in the last few decades.
That's up to private company shareholders, not the govmt.
(unless you are advocating Chinese nationalization of private enterprise that is)
Capitalism is the reason there are ghost towns all over the US and have been since it's destructive and highly wasteful history began.
It's like that speech Agent Smith gives to Morpheus in The Matrix about humanity consuming natural resources and then spreading to another area to start the cycle all over again.
Sure there are plenty of places in Britain where the the local natural resources were played out and industry moved elsewhere, but there are still people living in most of those places by contrast to the US.
Waste not want not - Americans never were very good at following that advice.
