I love Indika’s upbeat energy. And it doesn’t seem to be toxic positivity either, she acknowledges when people mistreat her or when things are just particularly inconvenient
The plodding numbness of filling the barrel coupled with the petty meanness of the nuns is an amazingly clever way to create tension. The whole game, Chris! The whole game! Hopefully, there will be plenty of chapters, 'cause I'm so in the mood for another long one.
I figure that if Satan is taking the trouble to make a personal appearance in Indika's head, there must be something "special" about her. Please play on, Chris. I want to see what that is.

Yeah, you know you're special when a deity makes a personal appearance to you. The closest I got was seeing an owl for the very first time in my life. Happened last August I'd only ever heard owls hooting in the night, but that night I actually got to see one. It was just perched on a powerline over the back parking lot of my apartment complex. I knew it was a sign. And, in case you're wondering, owls are the animal avatars of the goddesses Hecate, Athena and Lilith.
@@shadowjudge921 Yup, owls are magical. I'm so glad you got to see one in nature, SJ! When I was 12 or so, I was walking alone down a very long tree-covered road at night on an island in the PNW. As I walked in the pitch black, I began to hear an eerie "whoosh...whoosh...whoooosh" far behind me. I hadn't the vaguest idea what was making the sound. As it approached fast, I managed to keep my wits about me, scared though I was. Seconds later a magnificent white snowy owl flew, silent as a ghost, just inches above my head and off down the road. It was almost a mystical experience.🦉
@@Scriptor13 Wow! That is incredible! I've never heard of owls in the wild coming that close to a human by choice before. You think it might've been following you? And a Snowy too. That is rare. I couldn't tell what my owl was, it was too high up to get a good view, despite the floodlight shining right on it. But, if I had to guess, it was likely your typical Great Horned. Yeah it just sat there perched on that wire then flew off.
@@shadowjudge921 Haha! Maybe he/she thought I was a _very_ large vole. Dinner for the family.😅 I'm glad we've both gotten to experience owls in the wild.

I have been subscribed and watching almost daily since 2015. My top 3 favorite things about CjU (Chris): 1. The swearing in his proper British accent. 2. His puzzle-solving skill! I can not do it, I always try to figure a puzzle out along with him and let's just say I would be NO help in any of the scenarios. 3. The cheery way he greets us daily "If you want the Devil to join you, the links are below...." I've been here a long time, CjU is my favorite Gamer of all time, he has earned it. I could not pick my favorite of his gameplays if my life depended on it but some of the older ones stick out right now such as Outlast plus Whistle Blower, Amnesia Machine for Pigs, Araya... So many more I can't sit here naming them. CjU is at the top of the game, always.
The slow parts really feel purposeful. It forces you to think about what the devil said/Indika thinks. Rummination with the mundane, repetitive tasks. I wonder if Indika really has the devil in her head, or if her only crime is actually thinking.
For sure it is a unique experience to play an adventure/platforming game in a steampunk Imperial Russia with pixelated parts. Drowned in an christian orthodox catechism and a VERY russian flavour of Dostoevsky's and Tolstoi idea's towards monasticism, Gogol's weird surreal black humour (like dancing little abbes or last moments of a noble captain) and Bulgakov's thoughtful devil. This game is so much russian in it's very core and yet very universal to play it without even being interested in such stuff. And I really think that the points matter, OR maybe devil wants me to think that way... :) Anyway, It's lovely to see Chris being pro in yet another mundane job.
I love this game so much! It is so goofy, but is also very serious plot. The voice actors, the story, and the environment in my opinion is just really good and I will be very sad when i finish the game.
I really like the direction the developers went with Indika's hallucinations - it makes us the viewers question if it's actually the Devil or mental illness. The up-close-and-personal camera shots during some of the high tension moments is extremely disorienting as well. Hope there are more videos to follow! Thanks for all of the time you put into making the video!
What a unique game. You don't expect a pixel minigame to kick off a realistic-looking nun game set in the Russian hinterlands. The narration also adds so much. Please do a series!
Please please pleeeeeeeeeeease make this into a series! I loved the demo and when I started seeing playthroughs I waited for yours! Please don't make us wait longer !😱🥂
This game looks so good, I love the flashback change to isometric retro view, and the insanity mechanic is refreshing, plus the music change is so jarring and out of place that it shouldn't work but it does.
Holy crap, this game.....! I've been going through all of your old videos that I missed, and ended up skipping the demo of this one because I wanted to just watch your full playthrough of it straight through, that's how interesting it looked. And I am not disappointed. The game is GORGEOUS, the voice acting is fantastic, and there's something so unsettlingly weird about it that I just have to watch more. Thank you for playing this! What a game so far! (Also really like Indika's character...she's a very unusual protagonist, which makes for a more intriguing watch!)
This might be the game of the year for me. I love it the story, weirdness, horror aspects. Nun doing parcour😂❤😊. Amazing. Very unique. Well done devs❤. Looking forward to more Cju reactions.
I absolutely adored your playthrough of the demo to this and I was SO EXCITED when I saw the full game was out!! Really hoping you continue this into a full series. You're one of my faves, and I would love to see you play through it all!
It's really fun to see how they broke up the demo so it's not just one big section you're repeating. Needless to say, this is a true gem of a game. It reminds me more than a little bit of What Happened to Edith Finch with how the devil narrates and flashbacks are in different styles. The devil's personality also reminds me of the MC Jebediah from Amish Burlesque. Incidentally, the mundanity of those early chores may seem a little boring, but they're really getting you into the mindset of what Indika's daily routine is like. She's given chores that nobody else wants, and those same chores are often made far more tedious than necessary. At one time, this was considered a means of penance, so it's likely the nuns were doing this as a means to force absolution, while their relative disgust of her was the result of Indika's past and/or reasons for being there. It's likely she'd been hearing the voice well before taking her vow, and had done some terrible things during that part of her life. Also, if you think being forced to fill a barrel from a well instead of a nearby pump is bad, Medieval squires were required to kneel in a chapel and pray for 24 hours without moving or falling asleep to show their piety before they could be knighted. These days, reenactment groups only require 12 hours (which is still more than most bladders can stand).
@@conorgarrett5893 Traditionally speaking, Catholic nuns were often far less tolerant of new people than they'd show the public. Considering some of the devil's comments, she could have been a prostitute. And considering the one nun's comments when she dumped the water, it's possible Indika had ended up with an STD. Another possibility is that she committed some sort of crime that harmed her family or their reputation. The devil mentions she was kicked out of her home. That offense could have been what drove her to join the convent. However, I think the most logical explanation is that her family sent her to the convent because they knew she heard voices and believed she had been possessed by the devil (note how she apparently still gets correspondence from her family). Convents and monasteries were often used to treat victims of trauma or other curable mental health issues due to their relative isolation and lack of distractions. If this was indeed the case, the nuns likely shunned her because they too thought the voice a sign of demonic possession and instead of making an effort to call in a priest to exorcise the spirit, they simply treat her like a leper. This would also explain why they want her defrocked when the game makes it clear she's very humble towards the other nuns and willing to follow all instructions, no matter how unnecessary.
