Finally getting back in the field. Working the kinks out of the 5088. thomasfarmstn@gmail.com www.farmmerchbin.com Russ Thomas 33 Russell Thomas Rd Leoma, TN 38468
I hear the same thing about why don't I do things that they do in other parts of the country. You know your equipment and you know your ground. You're doing a great job, keep up the good work
I tell y’all what, doesn’t matter where you are from in the USA, why can’t people just say, Russ your doing a good job, but no some of you wanna bash and start bs, cause u have nothing better to do, Thomas farms is a great channel, we farm different in the south, if you don’t like it, “NEW YORK CITY” then scroll on ol son, much love Thomas farms from Greenhill Alabama. Keep doing what you’re doing, your channel is awesome.
Everybody farms different. Nothing will work for everyone. Keep doing what you are doing. It works for you and that is all that counts. Love the 5088 too. What we do in New York isn't going to be same as you do. I laugh when you say you run old machinery. Looks a lot newer than what I run. This is just from one red guy to another. God bless.
Jeff I like watching TH-cam to see how other people do things around the world. And there maybe some new ideas I might try every now and then. Had some dairy people move here 9 years ago from Pennsylvania. Everyone had quit milking here years ago. They came here and built a big milking facilities. They do everything different from us. People including myself watched to see how bad they were screwing up. They didn’t and have become good friends of mine. Yes they have changed some of their practices but they know what they are doing.
Those making the negative comments are not familiar with the different ways of farming Hang in there Russ your doing the right thing. I bet you can lay down and sleep at night without worrying about the bank coming to get something.
Not really negative but commenting without watching. I don’t expect everyone to watch my videos. If you start watching and don’t like it, click off and on to something else. I hope you are doing well Stacey.
Good to hear the Ol' 5088 screaming across the field. Hope the ripping really helps the field there. Sadly, "Trolls will be Trolls" in the comment section. Thanks for the ride along. Take care.
The 5088 is looking good out there getting it done. I have always loved the look of that series. I wish that IH could have kept going. Lifelong IH owner here myself. Spent my youth piloting a 1466, 1086 and a 1486. Thanks for the video.
Great video Russ. Love the ripping. I enjoy everybody’s point of view on how they farm. What works here might not work there. But little tidbits bits can be learned in every video.
Thanks Greg, the ripping is new to me. I’ve done a lot of studying on it. I’m not gonna rip every acre this year but see how things go with about 100 acres ripped.
Right on, hoss. Im glad to see you and the equipment in the field. I'll be in dyersburg Tennessee for the weekend. Love my volunteers. 💪 till the next video. 👍
Man yeah, loved seeing the 5088 out there!! Man it sure sounds good!! Hate you couldnt fly the drone, looking fwd to those shots again!! Ahh, the ole Video title warriors, gotta love those!! You do what you do, and we will keep watching!! Seems to me you are doing somethibg right year after year!! 😉😉 I have learned alot so far, and continue to enjoy every step!! Boy you sure dug up lots of treasures!! Thank you Russ for bringing us along!! Look fwd to seeing what's next!! 👍👍😁😁🌽🌽🌾🌾🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hello Russ enjoyed your video still was not notified when you put out but that's okay I saw now and enjoyed it. That's awesome 4th generation. You have a great day.
Thanks for sharing the video Russ. Enjoy your videos. Like watching the 5088. I really like mine. Yeah someone is always going to have something to say. Keep getting up. I'm like you I run older equipment and it's paid for and you can work on it and it's made better than the new stuff. I like it that you are in an Orange county I live in an Orange county in Virginia. Take care and God Bless Y'all.
Hey buddy full watch every region farms different. Me personally no till got it's place but still think got go in one in a while break the hard pan. Enjoyed seeing 5088
Gordon if someone clicks on my videos and gets board I don’t blame them for turning off but just to draw you own conclusion to what I’m gonna say just gets me. PS don’t expose yourself, 😂
Great ripping video Russ never know what you might find ripping it can be exciting and nerve-racking, hoping that nothing damages the equipment take care and God bless
I would have thought you would have serviced the tractor before you started ripping with that tractor, yes you are very good at farming iam not the kind of guy to tell anyone how to run there farm you no that Russ!
Thanks Keith! Tractor has been serviced but has sat for a long time. Thinking maybe something in the fuel tank. I have to change fuel filters pretty often on the magnum
Good question Randall. It came out of the Rogator we bought last year. I had satellite with the Rogator. I did have the same situation a few years ago with the 8930 and a fm750. It was a power issue. I will check everything out when I get a chance. Thanks for the info.
@@Thomasfarmstn waas 135 is suppose to be a replacement choice for 138. Some people say 133 and 131 work but I know 135 works for eastern part of the US
All parts of the country are different. I have 10 different fields in about a 5 mile radius, and they are all different. You do what works fo you and if someone is telling you your doing it wrong, they are not farmers. A true farmer would know better.
I talked to another guy today who has a Paratill. He is new to one as well. He is going to try to run a rolling basket behind his. We have also talked about running our roller behind ours.
You should name you channel, Russ's Food Channel. You mention food in every video you make. It looks like you have been losing a lot of pieces of farm equipment over the years from that pile of crap in the back of the truck. Pretty sure I know who you are referring to in New York state.
That scrap iron came from a previous owner of the farm years ago. No one particular in NY. Grumpy does things a little different but it works for him. Chris Duffy is a lot more different than me. Mike P and Andy Houarigan are Dairy farmers. All different but that don’t mean I’m gonna try to milk a black Angus.
This is a 4 shank and it’s pulling hard. I have contemplated on getting an older 4x4 tractor but it’s hard to find them with a 3 point also I can’t justify buying one just to do a few acres a year.
I hear the same thing about why don't I do things that they do in other parts of the country. You know your equipment and you know your ground. You're doing a great job, keep up the good work
Yep, I know nothing about dairy so I won’t tell you how to do it. Thanks Mike!
Beautiful ripping. All ground needs a good ripping every now and then.
I agree. I’ll have to see how this goes. Hopefully I can fight compaction with cover crops only in a few years.

I don’t think it was bashing as much as I need to do it another way.
Well you’re doing a great job buddy.
I love those 50 Series tractors. Nice to see one back in the field.
This one was a yard ornament for a few years. Almost got turned into a pulling tractor.
@@Thomasfarmstn Good choice on putting it back to work. I spent many hours in a 5488 in my high school days. Pulling machine that one was.

I wouldn’t worry about the “experts”. I don’t see anything wrong with what you guys are doing. Keep on doing your thing.
Thanks Mr Walker

The last tractor my Grandfather bought new was a 1486. I spent many hours on it. It burnt a few years ago.
Russ you have to do what is right for you and your farm. God bless you and your family
Thanks Jason
Man it’s good to see the 50 putting in work Russ, you do you and that’s where it ends hoss. Y’all stay safe and keep em comin. God Bless🇺🇸💪🏻🇺🇸
That’s right!
That is one nice old IH. I like seeing older equipment being taken care and still working in the field.

Hey Greg!
Your 5088 is a sharp looking tractor.
Thanks Randy, it used to look a lot better.
Lol it never ceases to amaze me as to what one can turn up in a field .I have turned up some strange stuff over the years.
Maybe I’ll hit some buried treasure or a pot of gold.
Russ, you take care of your farm, god bless

The new drone I have only flown once and that was in the house. Yesterday it was saying it needed an update. I never ran into that with the old one.

Let her rip Russ!~_I thought the 5088 might not pull the ripper but she plowed right through. Good job.

Nathan I know it was hard to hear me but I live in Lawrence Co. Sorry I’m hard to understand sometimes.
@@Thomasfarmstn no problem.
That 5088 is a real powerhouse!
IH had some powerhouse engines that you could get some hp from. I’m just afraid the transmission or rear end wont hold up to this day after day.
I need to add a ripper for the 1086. Looks like that TYE does a good job.
I found this one on tractor house in Illinois. Make sure it has gauge wheels and coulters

Now to get the a/c working and maybe the auto steer.
In cloudy conditions the moisture in the soil rises to the surface.

Russell I think if you screw your top link out and level the ripper out it might pull it a little deeper and not disturb the top of the ground as bad.
I believe you may be correct. I had it screwed out and Dad moved it back in, 😂
Yeah mine used to do me the same way. It just looked a little bit heavy on the front end. Just a thought let me know if it works for you. Thanks.
Great video! That 5088 is stout. I may have already asked but what size rear tires are on that 50?

Tim there are a lot of keyboard farmers, lol 😂
when my grandpa was farming, he planted beans and there wasn't a market for them back then so he baled them, not sure what year it was
I think the first few years my grandpa hauled them several hours away but it was worth the money.
That tractor is pulling that well. You thinking it would settle enough to plant behind it without running a disk over it?
