  • In this weeks wedding photography podcast we're talking about hybrid photo/video coverage.
Doing both photography and video for wedding days was a huge step forward for my career. Wedding photography is great, but when you pair it with video, it creates an even better experience for your couple.
I'm so happy I started doing both photography and video together, and my couples are as well.

There are several reasons why capturing video at a wedding can be important:
Documenting the day: A wedding is a major life event, and having a video allows you to capture all the special moments and memories from the day. This can be especially meaningful for couples who have friends and family members who are unable to attend the wedding in person.
Preserving memories: A video can help preserve memories from the wedding that may fade over time. You can watch the video years later and relive all the emotions and joy of the day.
Sharing with others: A video allows you to share your wedding with others who may not have been able to attend, such as friends and family members who live far away.
Creating a keepsake: A wedding video can be a beautiful keepsake that you can watch and enjoy for years to come. It can also be a special way to relive the day with your spouse or to show your children and grandchildren in the future.
Overall, capturing video at a wedding can be an important way to document and preserve the memories of the day, and to share those memories with others.

That’s what I’ve been telling clients for over 20 years…photography captures the moment, videography captures the day

I’m so jealous about the fact that you (and many others) that are able to be freelance wedding photographers and at the same time can have a lot of opportunities to shoot the weddings. Market here in Japan is so much different. Sometimes I wish I could just get out of the country just to be able to be an active freelance wedding photographer (at least I could have more opportunities).

I have been offering photo and video since 2003. Doing it well is another story... Mostly a bunch of cameras on tripods so I can concentrate on the photo aspect. Just starting to get into highlights in the past few years and enjoy and appreciate your content!

Hi Taylor Great and informative podcast! As we speak I am implementing hybrid video in 2023 and was wondering if you shoot "Canon" C.log/Raw or Mov/Mp4/standard video (shoot it right in camera with lifting shadows) for hybrid video clip 2-4 minutes. keep up the good work and have fun in the winter work abroad!

I just shoot regular picture profiles on canon, neutral on Nikon, eterna on Fuji and cinetone on Sony. So pretty relaxed profiles. Speeds up colour and gets me more accurate faster in post. That’s just me personally though. C-log would give you more flexibility for sure

Thanks. Do you believe that you may miss photo shots while transitioning to video or vice versa

As long as you have a fast camera and understand it’s limitations, there are usually no problems
