Update: Former Sears is being Demolished to become a BJ wholesale’s (Why is there a grocery store in the mall?) Round 1 closed and then became Tilted 10 a few months later
I grew up in South Louisville (still live within 45 minutes of it) and this was my main mall, as a teenager! I remember my friend and I hiding behind the bushes by one of the entrances, smoking cigarettes she pinched from her mom! Ah, to be young and dumb again, LOL! So awesome to see this mall covered here on TH-cam, and WONDERFUL to see it doing so well, especially in the current economic climate!! It looks absolutely NOTHING like I remember, on the inside (though the outside still looks almost the same). I still remember conversation pits, the fountains, the dark brick and wood, and brass decorations and little lightbulbs everywhere, lol. But I think the renovations look great! Thank you for this video!
I grew up in highview and fenugreek and edgewood. This place was a staple of my childhood! I ended up joining the military in 2001, and left home. My parents still live there along with my uncle and my sister. I haven't been home since 2022, and I really miss it ! I'm looking forward to visiting hopefully again this year. The gulf coast became my home, but I'm still a Villebilly at heart !
Wow that was a _very_ aggressive kiosk. The manager needs to talk to them about toning it down, it doesn't give the mall a good look. Great video regardless!
This was my OTHER main mall as a kid (after Towne Mall in Elizabethtown). The areas near JCPenney and Sears once had sunken TV islands. The furniture store near the parking lot was Toys R Us (my main draw).
This mall looked a lot different inside than I pictured on your drive around. I really like the renovation that CBL did to the mall. The CBL mall closest to me is a bland piss yellow/green color with boring floors that was renovated about 10 years ago. R.I.P. to the neon lights that used to line the corridors all throughout that mall. The Overstock Mattress store took over part of a Houston area mall Sears as well, but it is currently closing. Great tour as always Doomie!
LOL! Bland piss yellow/ green colour. I hate malls with colours like that. It looks so unappealing. I love neon, pastel and bold/ vivid colours the most in malls. They are my favorite.
One thing that will help the mall is Louisville's excellent economy. You've got the UPS Worldport, the GE Appliance Park, major Amazon facilities, the upcoming Ford EV battery plant south of the city, and huge distribution centers.
I've been waiting for this one all summer since I am from Louisville. I remember when this mall first opened. It was jam packed on opening weekend. There used to be a Walgreens where the food court is now. GE employees keeps this place going. As long as GE Appliance Park is there, this mall will probably survive. It looks like they walled over some businesses in the area where the old Sears was.
@@ms.zelman3032 A Chinese business bought GE Appliance Park. There are still several thousand people working there. If that ever closes, this mall will sink with it.
@@WhittyPics Yeah, they bought it a few years ago apparently? From what I read? You're right. The mall would die without it. It's definitely a lifeline for this mall.
Next level would be to interview the people who own these no name businesses that are still open. Would love to know if any of them are actually making money or just using the business as a tax shelter. Another great video Doomie.
Indian River Square? I've never heard of this place. There's an Indian Trail shopping center nearby on Preston Highway, and if memory serves there was a standalone Ben Snyder very close (possibly sharing the same parking lot... it's been a minute or two)
This is my local mall! And yes I will admit it’s kinda dying but also not really. I only go there now just to go to Jo-Ann’s to get materials. I also stopped going as much when they took chick fil a out of the food court a few years ago.
Jefferson mall has a totally different vibe and clientele than it did in the late 1990s. Once a safe middle class mall, it doesn’t feel as safe anymore.
I didn’t expect the mall to have as many stores as it did. While it’s future may be rough, for now it still features a lot of chain stores, including some that have left other malls.
This mall gets a lot of business from the southern counties. It has a reputation as being more working class, with St. Matthews and definitely Oxmoor Center being viewed as rich people place.
Na, i grew up in this mall in the 80s and 90s. Moved south, no one in Bullitt goes here anymore. It's a trash mall now. St Matthews and Oxmoor aren't even worth bothering with anymore.
I love the colorful blue and green display in the center of the mall at 4:02. The aggressive kiosks in some malls are slightly aggravating- I think it hurts business more than it helps.
I was a teenager in the mid to late 90s. This mall reminds me a lot of the main one I used to go to. I definitely feel your pain with the kiosks. A cell phone kiosk once asked to see my phone. I thought he was going to recommend an upgrade, but when I realized that he was holding it hostage until he finished his pitch, I interrupted him and demanded it back. Then, he had the nerve to ask me why I was being rude 🙄🙄😳 after that, I usually ignore them.
Last time I was there I just wanted to walk through the mall in peace you know get some steps in and someone tried to pressure me into buying $50 Dead Sea soap or whatever…. Have not been back.
You should have panned up all the way, with the camera, at the light display/skylight, instead of racing right through it, barely letting us look up. I've only been to Jefferson Mall a few times, like...DECADES ago, and will probably never see it again, as I no longer live anywhere near Kentucky. I only clicked on the video to get a closer look at that beautiful piece of art, in the middle of the mall. Just wanted a better look.
Overall I didn't really like this mall, but I liked the mixed floor along with the neon lights with the pattern at the bottom at 8:05 and of course the Bath and Body Works.😊 Also I wish this mall had more colour. It's just too plain looking.
For urban attire this is actually our best mall. The other two malls are pretty much geared towards white ppls taste and I don’t know a single person that visits oxmore mall

I work near the mall and BJ is being built. This will bring a lot more traffic to the mall and make more money.
Wow that was a _very_ aggressive kiosk. The manager needs to talk to them about toning it down, it doesn't give the mall a good look. Great video regardless!
The sears building has been torn down.

Oh ok, nice. Your wish got requested.🙂
It looks like this place is in limbo. It looks like it's going to stay that way, at least for now.
Those Kiosks in Jefferson Mall has always been aggressive. I have been grabbed a few times

Need to to a video of the mall at Christmas. Jeff mall in the 80s at Christmas was cool.

loooool!
I grew up going to this mall in the 80s and 90s. Its a N****r hole now.
Heartbreaking, isnt it?
great narration! this one was funny, man!
I used to work at something to do in Jefferson mall. It was a fun place and there was a book store across from it.
I don’t think there was a something to do at Jefferson mall I think that was oxmoor mall
@@kennyhankins8850 lol he just said he worked there.
I bought a glass chess from there in the early 00s.

I too dislike aggressive kiosks. If I want something on my way to a soft pretzel I'll come over and ask for some help.
great videos as always!...but i wish you walked around the food court:)

I once had a Chinese restaurant hold my phone hostage until I threatened to press theft charges!

Show us the rest of your Louisville footage. I moved away back in 2000 and I haven't been back home since 2005
Macy's gobbled up a LOT of its competition.
This is the ghetto mall in the City
all the malls in L ville are ghetto now bro
The Jefferson Mall is my favorite mall in Kentucky.

I think they should rename Jefferson Mall The Kiosk Mall. This was my mall as a teenager, and it was always full of life, fun, and Kiosks!
Business seems a bit - - hmmm, slow. Everyone must be waiting for Black Friday!
Every Friday is black Friday at this mall
