That was a hell of an interview. I had no idea Randy was such a nice guy. It was nice to hear from him about the bullpen session with House and Ryan. By the way, ounce more, Ryan showed how important the game is to him. Thank you for the leak cards.
This interview was fantastic. It's awesome listening to the greats. I also appreciate how he spoke about the difference between pitching then and now, without tearing down anyone playing in the process.
I saw Game One AT THE BOB (Chase Field's name then) in The World Series in Phoenix. Randy pitched number two. But he came in for number seven and got three wins in that series. Absolute legend!
RJ had two distinct chapters in his career: Part One was his years with the Mariners. He threw his first no-hitter in Seattle and was pivotal to all those great M's teams in the mid 90s. He's still a Mariners legend to this day. Part Two was his years with the D-Backs. He won four more Cy Young awards, won a World Series, and threw a perfecto in 2004. I'm sure all the D-Backs fans love RJ as much as we do in Seattle.
I think Seattle Randy was better. If he stayed in the AL he wouldn't have had ERAs that low in his late 30s....his numbers would look more like his 2005 Yankee stats.
@@b.c4309 He was pretty good in 2005, it just didn't seem like it bc he wasn't in the NL striking out 300 guys anymore. He was basically the same guy but the lineups were much more fierce in the AL especially the AL East.......He hadn't faced lineups that good that often since 1998. The same year he went to the Yanks and "regressed" Clemens and Pedro went to the NL and became Cy Young candidates again. Funny.
Makes sense that the 3 guys with the most hits off of him were all catchers who by default get to see more left handed pitching than anyone due to their position.
Really interesting stuff about modern pitch counts being lower than in 90’s. I wonder what pitchers today could have that type of ability and stamina to throw 140 pitches.
