I don't think that word means what you think it means. He is literally the opposite of underrated. Everyone rates him very highly, and everyone knows who he is.
I don't remember Randy smiling this much in his whole career combined. What a great smile and laugh and attitude. I realize that he had to maintain his ever present scowl and demeanor in his role as a dominating pitcher, but I bet at home he was THIS person. Thank You, Randt, especially for all my AZ Diamondback memories, and a lifetime of unparalleled highlights and successes. What a guy!
Still remember watching him throw that pitch and hitting the bird! I was 14 yrs old, standing on the concourse, right behind the home plate seats. To me, it was the greatest baseball moment, from the greatest pitcher to play the game!
He used to be a legend. Now he’s a 6’9” sellout that thinks we don’t deserve the 2nd amendment because it makes a 5’2” as powerful as him. Used to be my favorite player, now I hate him
It sounds like he’s always had an interest even before he was playing, that must have been comforting knowing he had that in his back pocket for after baseball, he had a long fruitful career obviously but it doesn’t always work out that way.
@@Miller73 yeah. Its good, but the way pat can get tge best athletes on there and always nail the interviews is unparalelled. Good example being the max holloway interview the other day.
I met the big unit when he was still with the Indianapolis Indians. That day they let kids on the field to run the bases and meet the players. Randy was pitching that day and my dad got his autograph for me and my brothers, still have it. Randy went up to the bigs not much longer after that day.
@ajm2475 it is. When I looked at the card with the autograph yesterday, I noticed Randy looks exactly the same almost 40 years later, just with a white goatee. Lol.
Absolutely great. I was on JV at Cal High when our varsity team played Livermore. Got to see the game. Randy started and smoked our Varsity squad. I was blown away. Never seen anything like it. A god amongst boys.
I heard a story several years ago that Randy had a big fan-boy moment, when he asked his favorite band, Rush, if he could photograph one of their concerts up close. Geddy Lee had a big fan-boy moment when he learned that Randy wanted to photograph them, and immediately said YES! It's always strangely surprising when a famous person in one profession turns into a fan-boy of a famous person in a different profession, and acts no different than the millions of non-famous in any profession fanboys do.
I WAS AT THAT GAME! I was stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona and myself, our Legal NCO, a fellow Admin guy, and myself went to the game. We were sitting behind the 1st base dugout. Jeff Kent picked it up, and asked if it got to take it's free base!!!
Hey Randy! I just destroyed a red-winged blackbird tonight on the golf course with a perfect drive exactly like this!!! I instantly thought of you and I can’t believe you just talked about this incident on Pat McAfee only 11 days ago!!! I am proud to be in the one in a billion bird smacking club!!! RIP Blackbird!!! 😢
Just watched the TH-cam video “The Inhuman Peak of Randy Johnson” yesterday. Such a great reminder how incredible this guy was and for how long. True legend
Big unit still got it. What a great interview, love how the dude has passion and talent that silently blesses others, as this guy is a retired stud and one of the best pitchers of all time. Great story.
The bird makes sure he’ll never be forgotten, and the fact that he’s a legend on top of that makes it even more bad ass. It’s like “this MFer even takes birds out with extreme aggression” lmao
It blows my mind that people seem to forget about this guy. I know he threw when Clemens, Maddux, Glavine threw but the Unit was something special. Greatest pitcher of my lifetime, hands down.
I didn't see the bird pitch live... Why would I be watching a spring training game? But I do remember when it happened. I was in high school and it's something I'll never forget.
I didn’t know it was him who hit the bird until today! I’m not really a baseball fan, but I remember seeing him in the WS on the old CRT-TV as a kid. Good memories.
I remember my good friend told me about this when we were in high school during the latter part of our school year in 2001. I had to see it for myself. Oh boy...
Wanted to hear him talk about his relationship with Geddy Lee of Rush, their love of baseball and and see some of the pictures he took of the band in concert as well.
btw my Nephew just pitched his first game! he struck out 2 batters out of 3! i learned a LOT from Mr Randy Johnson while i was pitching and playing other positions!!! He is a True ROLE MODEL!!! Thanks for Everything!!!!
As a kid I always thought Randy was The Beast from the late 80’s CBS TV show Beauty and the Beast. Pat’s comment about the line of zebra’s. “Single file line, I’ll throw a baseball at your heads, ask the birds.” 😂
His personality is so different than what I thought it would be… he always looked so mean and pissed at the world when he was on the mound, I figured he was more of the brooding, man of few words types… He’s like a happy, super friendly guy.
"The Big Unit" is still one of the best nicknames in sports.
No kidding.
He got that nickname from something other than baseball😂😂😂 it was a locker room nickname 😂😂😂
@@Azriel884Tim Raines gave him that name. Let's not make people dumber than they are, with lies.
@@brandondetroitfanmichaels4325 lol, it was joke, lil man. Thats why i put laughy faces... go take a cold shower and cool off🤣🤣🤣
Yup, the Big Hurt , Rocket , I agree, even that era had great nick names but Unit, I mean G unit lol. It's dope
Old Randy Johnson looks exactly like what you would think old randy Johnson would look like
😂
the man is only sixty!
Young Randy Johnson was already old Randy Johnson lol
I bet he is a trucker
Nope. He still has wonderful mane in my mind
Glad to see Randy looking healthy and sounding good at 60! He’s one of the most underrated baseball players of all time, and a top-5 pitcher ever imo
If you just go by lefty’s I’d say he’s top 3.
He is the 1# mariner and yes in the top 5 ever without a doubt. Only casuals say otherwise.
The pitches he threw to Kruk were definitive Johnson. BB's
Completely agree
Watching him and Schill just will the DBACKS to a ring was special
I don't think that word means what you think it means. He is literally the opposite of underrated. Everyone rates him very highly, and everyone knows who he is.
Legend says Randy didn’t own a gun for self defense, he just had a bucket of baseballs.
That might just be scarier.
Legend says, chuck Norris is his twin outside the baseball dimension
😂😂😂 this is an amazing comment.
The Big Unit's beard game just as legendary as his pitching.
This is the most energy Randy has shown forever
I was thinking the same thing.
He likes photography more then baseball.
Legend has it that they sold that bird to a blind kid who named it "pretty bird."
😂😂😂
I heard that somewhere too. It must be true.
Ya'll stupid for this.....lol pretty bird😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
His head fell off!
Petey

Randy is an absolute legend people have no idea.
People don’t? I could’ve sworn I had an idea, and these guys seem to have had an idea when interviewing but I guess not.
Good thing you’re here
Odd I could have swore I grew up in the 90s a die hard baseball fan. Thank you for informing us how legendary he is.
People absolutely do have an idea 😂😂

@@tomjones4835I disagree with him, but he’s a still a baseball legend.
One of my childhood Heros. Love Randy! Mariners fan here, happy he got to win one away from the team.
“Mr. Unit," is such a fabulous way to address him😂
Randy should be weekly guest during baseball season. He'd have stories for days. (I remember him in the Kingdome... clutch reliever in '95.) 😏
Love that he thinks he has to shout at the computer
Old Unit Energy
His hearing aid probably has something to do with it.
I’m fine with it honestly, I’d rather have that than some mumble mouth
Or he’s just extremely passionate about it
He's nearly 7 feet tall his voice is going to be naturally loud
Wow some of those shots were incredible. Glad Randy found a passion in retirement.

I was thinking that too
Don’t ever disrespect his name like that
@@HEAT4YOAZZ For real 🤣. I've met plenty of men named Randy. Never once have I met a Randi. 🤦
Actually, I didn’t realize he was so talkative.
Had that thought too! I did not expect the north-central accent.

Randy was my favorite pitcher growing up BY FAR, man was such a beast on the mound- very blessed and thankful to have got to see him play. 👍🙏
Dude is a fukn legend. Im a huge M's fan and watching this dude throw in his prime was 2nd to only Nolan Ryan. Straight stud💯
3:10 dude calls him Mr. Unit lol
Mr Unit, Mr Johnson - what’s the difference?
For one of the scariest looking guys in sports, Johnson seems like one of the nicest people you'll ever meet.
I actually was quite surprised when I saw the modern Randy Johnson. Quite a difference.
Seriously I didnt think that was him until I saw the name come up.
His voice sounds way different from what I remember as well.
Dude truly is a unit. Cool to see how passionate he is about his second act.
Randy was very fun to watch such a legend
I’ve never heard him speak and he sounds like Jesse Ventura.
Absolutely great. I was on JV at Cal High when our varsity team played Livermore. Got to see the game. Randy started and smoked our Varsity squad. I was blown away. Never seen anything like it. A god amongst boys.
So much nostalgia from this guy. One of the best to ever do it. Mad respect

My favorite pitcher of all time. Amazing dude
Favorite pitcher of all time. He was such an intimidating presence on the mound and in this interview the exact opposite great to see.
Super awesome man, he came to my buddies graduation party Randy is his uncle and man he was so awesome to meet
I was at that game, one of the coolest moments in a stadium I've ever had, everyone going "Oooooh" at one time. Lol

No wonder Randy has always been successful, whatever he is doing; he does it with passion. Goodonya!
I wasn't a big fan of watching baseball on tv but anytime Randy Johnson was pitching I'd watch it he made baseball fun to watch for me anyways
A stone cold killer on the mound, and all he wants is to take pictures of animals. Can this guy get any more legendary

I went to the first game he pitched in the Astrodome as an Astro. It was electric.
Arguably, the most feared pitcher of all time. So grateful I grew up watching him in his prime
Guess you never knew who Nolan Ryan was lol.
My favorite pitcher of all time. He’s the guy who got me obsessed with baseball as a kid. Great to see him healthy and happy.
johnson v Kruk is sooo good. probably the most entertaining players to face eachother that I can really think of
Most fans of this show don’t realize how big randy Johnson is in baseball, one of the best pitchers of all time.
That was a once in a lifetime experience. Holy cow I’ll never forget that. Talk about a holy **** moment.
That's awesome. I did a safari in Kenya in 95 when my uncle use to be the tour guide.
Randy still sharp as a tack and looking well. Good for him.
How does he look healthier now?

What a badass! Big respect for the BIG UNIT!
John Kruk.....I worked at a philly cheese steak store in ft Myers owned by Kruk, and I met him a few times, good guy!
I remember when the mariners lost Randy, Arod and JR all in the same year. Won 116 games after that.
I remember seeing a mountain of unsold VHS tapes of the 116 game season in a department store.

The Big Unit sounds like he had a couple “pops” in him before this interview. 😂 JP love Randy! Has one of the best signatures in the business!
I lived in Az and saw that Live on Tv. I’ll never forget it
I know it’s not a big baseball progrum, but PMS should have more players/retired players on it. There’s a lot of interesting characters in baseball.

Pat’s comment about the line of zebra’s. “Single file line, I’ll throw a baseball at your heads, ask the birds.” 😂
WHen i hear that name and see his face, so many great memories from the past.
Randy, Nolan, and Pedro are the three best ever

Great way to use this story to be able to rattle off all his insane accomplishments every time someone brings it up.

Dude is a legend. Last great era in baseball.
A couple years ago at a travel baseball game my sons teammate hit a ball that hit a bird and still went over the fence for a homerun.
Randy has been a great photyograher his whole life.
One of the best.
Struck fear in those he pitched against
Can't wait for Ty to do his Randy impersonation. I have a feeling it will be legendary.
I love old school pitchers with a Wild West-like aura.
Randy Johnson took the picture of the leopard and yelled "Look at this fuxking cat."
For those of you that don’t know, he is the OG Big Unit
