" To escape the error of salvation by works we have fallen in the opposite error of salvation without obedience" Tozier. It's not works to obey the gospel.
I have studied the "CoC" history. The explanation of the use of "for" you give is very revealing. It's a great way using Scripture in the surrounding text to awnser Acts 2:38. They teach - hear, believe, repent, confess, and be baptized. They teach you contact the blood when your baptized. When my oldest brother in-law was dying in the hospital,, my "CoC" bro in-law and I were walking to his car; he said "all he's has left now is the blood." I just kelp silent. He knew I didn't believe that. You gave me more amo to awnser with. Thanks for the usage of "for" in the surrounding 1st 4 chapters. There teach that the word "for" in Acts 2:38 means "in order to obtain."
One "C O C" minister on U - Tube said, "how do you know the thief on the cross was not baptized before he was crucified". Odd; Jesus saved him while hanging on the cross.
@Robert Hall, to answer that COC minister's question, we know the thief had not been baptized because baptism in Jesus's name had not yet been commanded Matthew 28:19, Mark 16, Acts 2:38, so therefore the thief on the cross would not be subject to a command not yet given. It would only be subject to everyone else after it was given, after Jesus's resurrection. Only after it was commanded, would everyone be baptized in Jesus's name for the forgiveness of sins, which was after the thief's lifetime.
Regarding weather or not the thief was baptized. Was not in reference to Christ's Baptism, but to John's baptism. Which "Rejoran" above fails in his study of the scriptures. The statement, "we do not know weather or not the thief was baptized" stands true. John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. "And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins" (Mk.1:4-5). We do not know if the thief was baptized, then went back into his criminal life. Even many of Jesus' disciples "walked no more with him." What we do know is that Jesus while on earth had the authority to forgive sins directly. The thief repented, Jesus could read his mind, forgiving his sins. The thief was the last to be saved by Jesus directly. Even with the case of Paul. Jesus could have easily forgiven Paul there and then on the road. But instead, Jesus did not alter from his gospel plan of salvation on how we this side of the cross are saved. Faith was not an issue, for Paul now definitely "believed on the Lord Jesus." Paul went from persecuting Jesus to becoming a disciple. Faith alone was not sufficient for Paul to be born again. Jesus sent Paul to the city, where Annanias could arrive and take him to be baptized, where his sins were washed away. Water does not save, no one ever thought it does. It is the obedience to be baptized in water that heaven commands. When we obey his blessed command, it is then that God forgives.
Thank in the NAME of Jesus Christ Pastor Knox. This message is timely for us. God Bless you always.
The very fact that Christ was crucified argues against any form of good works saving a sinner....love it.

I love his preaching more and more
Acts 2:38 says it all. Obeying God's commands saves.

Matthew 3:11, does that mean that baptism in water disappeared after John? No, it doesn't Acts 8:36-39, Acts 10 47-48.
The answer is No.
