Among the different versions, I feel EN displays his layers of being the authoritative figure the best. JP - The VA did so well in controlling the intensity of his voice in every sentence, you can tell which one is more fueled by anger. JP VAs always shine in action scenes. CN - The clear switching between his usual flippant lines and his more serious ones is impressive. CN VAs are always insane with their tones imo. KR - Bro was straight up COLD every second and I love it. He's the scariest. KR VAs are hella amazing in the more serious scenes that it really feels chilling when it has to be.
The beauty of these dubs are you can feel Wriothsley is keeping himself compose while there is raging fire that can burst out any time. It sounds oxymoron, but"feel the heat from my blizzard" appears to the script can be used here.

I feel like EN translation team seriously missed out on how good the CN lines are in this cutscenes 😭 Dougier: "You're just a crook, and it's time you got treated like one!" but oh my god in CN it's "You're just a sinner, and sinners should all die!" Wriothesley: "What's the matter? Too scared to shoot straight?" CN: "You're *that* afraid of me? That you won't even point the gun in my direction?" But I love this scene in every dub honestly, Wriothesley's VAs are all amazing

@@scribejay in my opinion that kind of falls into the stereotype that Southern accents are unintelligent. not that I think the EN delivery has anything wrong with it but Dougier's "you're just a sinner, and sinners should all die" is such a powerful line delivered towards Wriothesley, especially in terms of his backstory and current attitude towards life, I think it's a shame they missed it!

As a Korean, I don't see Korean as the fan favorite as much and I just want to share some thoughts of mine. Because only Korean speakers and natives are able to understand some tones and delivery when spoken. I'm sure there are some cultural speaking tones and such that only natives are able to get and why it fits that character but Korean definitely needs be understood to be fully appreciated. I absolutely love how the KR VA voiced Wriothesley. I never let out an audible laugh when I read the story but he was the first. I can't explain it well and my non english speaking ass doesn't do justice at all. I always see some people in the comments saying KR dub is the worst out of all dubs. Every language is unique in it's way and only those who understand will able to appreciate it's complex structure and beauty.

It’a always en speakers who say en is better when they don’t even understand the nuances of other languages and how the localization works. It’s almost funny. Of course you think en is better when you don’t understand how other language’s context/ cadence/ intonation works. You only relate to the en version of speech patterns and way of showing emotions

The VA work in the other three languages are just as amazing (or more, depending on one's preference) when you're familiar with how the language usually sounds in different contexts, even if you don't understand it word for word. They have different ways to express specific emotions and characterizations in their lines. The CN, KR and JP VAs nail it perfectly in this scene too.
Not always. Sometimes it's influenced by the sound of the voice speaking, too. When all VA's do a good job things like that matter. Like, I prefer the Chinese version of Zhongli but the English version of Wriothesley.
Even though Jotaro is one of my all time favorite anime characters and his Sir Ono is one of my favorite voice actors, I actually like the English voice most. It fits him the most too in my opinion, Mister Zieja is awesome👍
Is the English version the only one of these that opted for a different accent for Dougier? With his southern accent (associated with the Southeastern portion of the US, probably to give him a false docile nature) he seems one step away from preaching about Jesus to us.
I guess for the english, its a reference to slave owners back in the days, but such thing dont exist for other language (or at least not widely known) so changing accent would do nothing?
