Harrison Ford shares his love of aviation, flying his DeHavilland DHC-2 Beaver, his Bell 408 Helicopter, or several of his other airplanes. He shares some insight on the difficulties of filming Six Days, Seven Nights, and his desire and challenge in actually being the pilot in command for the flying scenes.
Just put up the companion video to this one... The journey from Jackson Hole, WY (actually Driggs, Idaho) all the way to Boeing Field in Seattle. Please watch! • Flying to Seattle - Ha...
This is the original clip, uploaded by the Producers!

Paul Mitton, producer of Just Another Pilot, a documentary featuring Mr Ford, said: "Harrison is an extremely good pilot. Had he got a little further he would have been over suburbia and the outcome would have been very different and less happy. He did an incredible job of missing the trees (on the golf course)."

I was lucky enough in1996 to meet Mr. Ford at the Jackson Airport. I was there from Denver installing REIL lights. As we were standing at the end of the taxiway with subcontractors from Jackson, this 206 kept taxiing by and the subcontractors would wave and the pilot and instructor would wave. Finally I asked, "who are you waving to"? They said, "Harrison Ford" I was like, really? The Captain of the Millennium Falcon? Every morning at 9 a.m. he would pull into the FBO in a green Lexus and his 206 would be parked behind the hangars. My partner said "lets go talk to him". I told him NO, leave the man alone. Of course my partner shouted out, "hey Harrison". He turned and said, "yes"?. From there we had a nice conversation with him. He said he saw us and asked what we were doing out on the field. We asked if we could get some pics? His reply, "lets do it". In the morning when he would be walking to his plane I would ask him "hey, don't I know you from somewhere"?. His reply was, "Me?, no, no. lolol Just a super nice guy who was willing to spend a few minutes and give great memories to a couple of fans.

Having been a pilot myself for over 15 years I couldn't agree with Harrison Ford more, when you're up in the sky nothing else seems to matter its so peaceful up there, when you can slip the surly bonds of Earth and fly among the Eagles life is just fantastic and despite my disability which often means I can't fly alone I love sharing the adventure with friends and family, there's no better feeling in the world then escaping the ground and feeling so free!

I grew up poor, in a three-room house with no door on my bedroom, in a small town in rural Southern Indiana. The key is, I grew up. I had nothing for most of my life, then I decided I wanted a different life, so I made the necessary choices. I went back to school in my early 30's, worked fast food to put myself through college, then got a job doing something I enjoy. I still don't make a ton of money, I just learned how to manage my finances and pay my debts off in a timely manner. Because of those choices and decisions I was able to get my pilot's license at age 40, and purchase a plane at age 41. You can whine about being poor, gripe about the good fortune of others, and stay on the ground, or you can stop blaming successful people for your own bad choices and change your life yourself. Your choice. It really is that simple.

FiddleStick's you chose to watch this video just to bitch about being poor? He's a pilot who enjoys flying. He acknowledged how fortunate he is to be able to do it. Get the stick out of your ass, grow up and fuck off

This is the kind of humility that real, true aviators are noted for; in fact, you'll see Clint Eastwood, in his helicopter, saying the same thing: "Up there, I'm just another pilot". People of utmost class.

I'm English and I bumped into Harrison Ford and his Beaver up at Big Bear Airport several years ago when I was doing a bit of recreational flying out in Southern California. What a smashing bloke he was, very nice to talk to. Had a good 20 minute chat out on the flight line about where to go and what to see. Very down to Earth and a true enthusiast.

A great actor. But above all a great human being. He's not a big head. He admits how lucky he is to be able to do the things he wants and when he wants to do them. I think you could sit down with Harrison Ford on a small airfield and have a friendly chat. I wouldn't he be all that surprised if he paid for the coffee. Great vid. Watched it twice.

He has always been one of my favorite actors. I have never met him, but he seems very humble and you never hear anything bad about him. A real class act! Todays celebs could learn alot from him. I remember reading about him using his helicopter to help find some lost kids in the woods. I bet they were shocked when they found out he was involved in the search. I would love to meet him one day and just talk planes.

I met Mr. Ford in Idaho when he landed his Beaver. I was always a big fan of this great airplane so when I saw one come in I walked out to the ramp to check it out and there was Mr. Ford, a true gentleman, cleaning bugs off the spinner. That plane was immaculate! It was perfectly tricked out. There wasn't a speck of dirt in the whole cockpit, or a streak of oil anywhere. He really takes good care of that plane and he looked like he enjoyed doing it. Man, I'd love to have that plane.

If one can overlook his obvious star status, you can't help but like his attitude towards flying and all things aviation. I was pleased when he accepted the Ambassadorship of Aviation and National Director for the Young Eagles program with the EAA. I really like that he is dual rated and prefer's taldraggers. A real aviator.

Just saw your comment and your videos. Great stuff! I got my private ticket at 19 in a 172 at an AFB aero club many years ago. The first solo you will never forget it. Doing the pattern a few times with the instructor, then he/she steps out. You then taxi back out, do what you have been trained to do, and then look over to the empty right seat after that first takeoff solo and think "what the hell am I doing?" Then a second or two later you are back to business. At least that was my experience!

I very seldom envy people, but in a nice way I envy Harrison Ford. I would love to own a nice Beaver like his. I own a pristine Cessna 170 B and a Clipped Wing Experimental Decathlon, but his De Havilland Beaver is marvelous. The sound of a radial engine is something very special, it gives me goose bumps

Ford's appeal resides in his capacity to evoke a sense of observing trustworthyness, in his audience. Prediction is a dangerous game, but surely, in years to come, the 'Barn Raising' scene, in 'Witness', will be seen as his greatest moment. It will rank alongside Spencer Tracey's death scene in 'Captain's Courageous', or that of Alec Guinness, resisting Colonel Saito in 'The Bridge...'

"I'm just darned lucky." Says it all. I think Jimmy Buffett got him back into flying. JB had been with him in the mountains. One of the team's pilots had one of HF's Indiana Jones hats. He gave it to me. Then curiously, he called me and told me he needed it back. I gave it to him. Seemed like the right thing to do.

Nice video. Nice story. We pilots are a lucky bunch. Thanks for sharing this so that others may appreciate the joy of GA flying!
