@@bigt75373 Even your shooting form is ugly af but if its consistent and going in and you're comfortable with it trust me you can beat half of your teammates in shooting
I’ve been playing all my life and I’ve seen all kinds of shots. I think something about your personal physiology determines your shot looks. If you don’t tell a kid how to shoot he/she kinda finds their own shot if they play a lot. Repetition, confidence and arc seem to be the most important factors in a good shooter.
It's such an interesting topic isn't it. I personally believe through enough repetition people with a poor shooting technique will make a lot of buckets, BUT with a poor shooting form, the ceiling is only so high. If you develop a good technique (can still be unique) then add repetition, thats what leads to being a high percentage shooter. A good example of this was Lonzo Ball. Shot well in HS with a weird action. Came to the NBA and his technique was exposed. He worked on it and developed a good technique, lost a few of his bad habits and his numbers went up drastically.
@@Mattomeo15 I feel like we’re mostly agreeing but with lonzo and many others the shot would most likely still work in wide open situations but those are much harder to come by as the level of competition raises. So the form itself objectively works but it requires more to get off. I think free throws have less variables and an are better sign of good form and how switching to a better from doesn’t always equal more success.
Exactement.
@@JoeSpicy123 how is it going for you with the Larry bird form?. For me when I shoot it,it doesn’t really go in and goes over the back board sometimes and I thought I was using too much power but I think i gotta have a lot of more arc on my shot and extend my arms
@@xwock1610 seems like it was a one day thing for me lol, although I still like the feeling of it. Might try that shot again but I just feel like I lose a lot of power. I shot it once today and cashed it so who knows. If you can get good with it tho I think it can be deadly.
Klay is what every coach in history tries to teach their players. It’s genuinely the perfect textbook shot. Everyone else is good shooters not because of perfect form, but because they shoot the ball tens of thousands of times in the exact same motion and the muscle memory won’t let them miss
Genuinely it’s footwork. Watch his feet when he does all of these forms his footwork doesn’t change. A solid base builds a solid form. I’ve seen so many people who struggle because of bad footwork that leads to other bad tendencies
The most important part is getting to the point where your upper arms are perpendicular with your body, pointed toward the basket and your elbows are bent at right angles. Every great shooter, you can take a frame from their shooting motion where they get to that position.
I think what people neglect when shooting the basketball. Is arc and the velocity of the trajectory in which the ball travels. The ball should land softly when hitting iron of the rim
He’s probably using the great three-point shooters as an example. The guys you referenced are great mid-range scorers and their set-points are high, and they shoot at the apex of their shot (2 motion shot) to prevent contests since their shots are heavily contested in the mid-range. Still good shooters, but the guys in the video are the all-around shooters.
Ever notice no one ever talks about the eyes when discussing shooting form. Just like being left-handed or right handed, we have a dominant eye. I always theorized that those funky shooting forms are a result of compensation for having a dominant eye opposite of the dominant hand…and the shooter is using that extra motion to line the ball up to their dominant eye.
The feet are the key. Get them set and the release will vary because everyone's arm length and hand size is different so whatever gets them the quickest release is different.
This is so interesting because I feel like it parallels guitar picking technique. Sorry I’m a guitarist so I can’t help but relate it to that. There are many people who are great at it but it can be done in so many different ways. Django Reinhardt, Paul Gilbert, Marty Friedman, all use their right hand in such different ways yet get the same effect. It’s the same with shooting I feel.
Its all about release speed, height, and consistency. The kids that need corrections are usually shooting the ball from a low point or starting too low which makes it easy to defend, or have too much janky movement which makes the release inconsistent (early lonzo is a great example)
Teaching the "textbook" style of shooting is just a means of setting a foundation that is firm and easy to repeat and stay consistent with. Once you become a high level shooter, it's more about what shot feels more natural/comfortable to shoot with because your shooting form and release with vary depending on how you shoot. Whether it be the way you bring the ball up to the release point, how low or high you make the release point, how quickly you shoot or long you hang with the ball before you release etc.
“People always talk about shooting form. As long as the ball goes in, then it goes in” -Charles Barkley I don’t remember the exact words but it was something along those lines.
the perfect shooting form is the one that works for your body and how naturally it feels when you gather and release the ball. If it's not broken, never try to fix it.
I think the secret is to be able to reproduce your form every single time - almost no matter what that form looks like. Almost. Just be super consistent in your form. And look at the basket the whole time when you shoot - never look at the ball or your hands.
The same with Baseball, hitting coaches are always trying to change their hitting habits and style. Remember your own unique style is what got you in the Majors. The same with Basketball
Its hinestly whatever works for the person, though those things usually stem from whe you started to learn to shoot. That being said, Klays form is what you should teach at the beginning.
I really liked how Kobe shot the ball. There's just something about how he sets up his base, how he dips, how he moves his guide hand, even all the way to how he drops his arms after shooting that looked so "perfect" to me.
