I love how adamant he was about not talking about fashion. he's great at both but does not wish to use the momentum from his brand as a tool. he is genuinely passionate about film, and these past two films show he deserves to be taken seriously
I love that Tom Ford is a fashion designer who is now directing films, and who knows what else. He teaches us that our creativity is only limited to the limitations to we put on it. We can express, reinvent and recreate ourselves. If you love doing something do it. Doesn't matter what you were doing before.
Exactly i am surprised how the hell did he make this film. It really does not look like it was made by someone who makes cinema as a "hobby". The film had that finesse and style which i think would have been impossible to be made by someone who is not an all out experienced filmmaker. I am talking about nocturnal animals
His speaks so affected. Like 10 years in Charm school. Enunciation of e v e r y word as the smart ..but REWIND TO THE START when he doesn't know they're rolling, he's as common as muck.
It kinda frustrates me a bit lol. I am very expresive, so people who are so put together frustrate me. However, I still love what he says, and made the effort to listen to such a brilliant artist
I saw Nocturnal Animals yesterday (haven't seen A Single Man) and Tom Ford has earned my respect, he did such a terrific job with this movie. He's clearly not someone who just goes into film for the hell of it or anything but he has really something to say. This interview reflects that.
Tom is a well of humanity, existential exploration, and insight. People seem to get so caught up with Tom Ford the Legend that they don't really listen to what Tom the man is expressing. Bless him, the interviewer is lagging behind, clumsy, and missing the cues all over the place, but Tom has the swift intelligence and courtesy to smile and sweep things along directing in such a well-mannered way that he helps the interviewer save face. A rare breed of man these days.
Good, interesting interview. Decent questions by the interviewer too. Going to see "Nocturnal Animals" again this weekend. It definitely calls for a second viewing! Beautifully made.
I love that he doesn’t want to compare fashion and film, because his respect for both are purely genuine. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾and by the way, one of my favorite films, and score of all time. IMO
Exactly dude . You stole the words off my mouth. I thought tom ford would be some great directors who has struggled as a filmmaker in industry and honed his sills as a filmnaker and does not make cinema as a hobby but rather it is his passion and career. Because seeing this film i had no idea that he was just a hobbyist seasonal filmmaker and not an all out filmmaker
he got kinda triggered when dave pulled the fashion card. nevertheless, brilliant guy, lookin forward to watch NA as soon as it hits theaters in my country.
I hope he does make another, unlike the unbelievably awesome Joanthan Glazer, who says that he has no plans to make another film and doesn't even consider himself a film maker. WTF!!!!????!!
+Georgia S Well expanded explanation. In the past, I've committed the sin of pushing conversation onto people and it didn't work out then, one should not expect it to work in a Q&A forum. Overall, you can choose to grow from those moments.
I liked the question, I don't understand why Tom Ford didn't get it, to be honest. Maybe he just didn't want to talk about fashion at all because the question was pretty clear
It's just because we often underestimate designers. Hence the element of surprise. After watching his interviews I'm not surprised at all. He is profound and knows how to work.
I'm paying close attention to what Tom Ford saying and it's clear that he is a very organized man, which is very rare for creative people in general, pretty much like how I am. He's the most influential designer today and now an acclaimed film maker, director, and producer. Hence, he is such an inspiration for me moving forward with all my projects, being a novelist, entrepreneur building a business that includes a myriad of business units.
You've pulled off something special here Mr.Ford!Bucking Frilliant&you had something to say!You went Full On Peckinpah-Malick by the 2nd&3rd acts, disn't see that coming! This rang alot of bells for me personally,so like God Bless&Always Bew Well and all that:)....
I like hearing tom's perspective and thoughts on the movie, it felt very cohesive and specific. I loved it for how straight forward it was, you can tell it was a lot of thought put into it. The interviewer could've relaxed a bit though, like obviously tom didn't want to talk about fashion and only the film, but like i think Tom did just say what he said because the dude reallly wanted to know. Tom seems really sweet and earthly.
DP 30 I enjoyed your interview Mr. Poland. Curious to know if you will interview Jake Gyllenhaal for Nocturnal Animals and Ryan Gosling for La La Land?
This video enforces the fact that, "Good interviews require moderators/interviewers". Here you have a passionate and fastidious film maker, but the questions being asked are repetitive, off topic and many a times vague. These questions prevented Tom Ford from getting into his zone and talking about things that excite him. Note: As of this comment I've seen only 2/3rd of the video (19 minutes). The comment reflects my emotion for the first 19 minutes of the interview.
DP, you always find good interview subjects. Wish Tom Ford would direct Gary Oldman (why you interviewed twice!) But perhaps Oldman is not handsome enough for Ford. You should interview David Thewlis (anomalies, Remus Lupin) next. Think Thewlis' next big movie is Wonder Woman in a bit role, I'll remind you then!
He looks like he tries intentionally not to show his teeth. Notice there is not one single picture of him online with him smiling with his teeth showing
Him being so controlled in how he speaks and presents himself actually makes him less attractive and fascinating as a person - which at least for me is exactly how he seemed from just looking at him - enigmatic and captivating - so that is a bit sad, as he seemed not spontaneous and perhaps less authentic.. I wonder what feeling about him did You get from that interview..? But as an artist and a director/writer he is simply a genius! I remember seeing A Single Man for the first time - it was like watching an art gallery show in moving form, each shot framed so exactly and precisely, like a painting of its own. It was one stunning intimate character piece! Thank you for this interview and many others, DP. I love how you manage to bring out things in people, which they talk about broader than a typical movie interview. It makes it possible to get to know the actors/directors better as people, which is what's most fascinating.
Nah, for me it just screams someone controlling and afraid to let go!.. These types of people can be super manipulative! Be careful if you're attracted to that... 😬
...having said that,I think your'e both probably right!:)As a straight guy iI just appreciate him going into Sam Peckinpah/Terence Malick territory with this one!Well Played,Ladies:)
I would like the interview to be more personal. Thats what I was looking for anyway. My relationship with this movie is very personal and it has profoundly effected my life.
There must be something not to like or respect about this fucking guy. I mean Jesus Christ. I'd seen both of his fantastic films and until recently, I had no idea this was the same Tom Ford who Jay Z liked enough to turn his name into a chorus. Then I saw a picture of him on IMdB, and became angry that someone so young and so much more handsome than I could be so successful in two very different worlds of art, while maintaining the integrity to not let one world contaminate the other. Then I saw that he was not young at all and just looks about 30 years younger than he really is. Then I thought, "oh he's probably just a handsome Harvey Weinstein who just uses his power in the industries to force himself upon women." Then I found out he's actually gay and married to a handsome man and they have a child together. At this point I start looking for interviews with him just praying he's a pretentious asshole who looks down an all who aren't on his level... Nope... turns out he's just a super nice guy. Now I'm really hoping he's a serial killer or a pedophile or something so that I can at least have one thing I don't respect about him
3:45´this guy did not make his homework, Tom Ford way to produce a collection and all that goes with it have stated before that they take so many polaroids that its like editing a film that haven't occurred yet.
Ford should direct the Harley Quinn movie, he might make it a more feminist character study on combating a male dominated world. And yes, it should be done much better than last summer's Ghostbusters.
Am I the only one who noticed the nasty jab at James Earl Jones? He made a couple of acclaimed movies and now he thinks he can just judge every other artist in the film industry?
What a terrible interviewer! Instead of listening he keeps throwing out disconnected personal questions. You can see Tom struggling to remember what he’s doing there. Cringy.
Feeling fremdschämen (secondhand embarrassment) for the interviewer who should have simply dropped his fashion angle when polite yet firm resistance was provided by Mr Ford. Rattling on with a weak riposte is not the way to go.
I love how adamant he was about not talking about fashion. he's great at both but does not wish to use the momentum from his brand as a tool. he is genuinely passionate about film, and these past two films show he deserves to be taken seriously
And the reporters always bring up the fashion into the conversation ABOUT HIS FILMS
Great movie. Tom Ford seems to have it all - two great careers doing things he loves, and he seems to be very good at both of them.
Couldn't agree more.
"Failure may have push you in that direction that is ultimately where you have to go" Tom Ford is wise beyond looks, words and age, thank you Mr Tom.
This man as Director have my respect...
Damn this film.......is a masterpiece
I love that Tom Ford is a fashion designer who is now directing films, and who knows what else. He teaches us that our creativity is only limited to the limitations to we put on it. He just seems like the nicest person.
His speaks so affected. Like 10 years in Charm school. Enunciation of e v e r y word as the smart ..but REWIND TO THE START when he doesn't know they're rolling, he's as common as muck.
I'm so crushed he's gay. He has a look in his eyes and the way he talks and moves and looks and that tone.... omg
It kinda frustrates me a bit lol. I am very expresive, so people who are so put together frustrate me. However, I still love what he says, and made the effort to listen to such a brilliant artist
I can see why talented actors work with him. You get a contact high just from listening him talk.
I saw Nocturnal Animals yesterday (haven't seen A Single Man) and Tom Ford has earned my respect, he did such a terrific job with this movie. He's clearly not someone who just goes into film for the hell of it or anything but he has really something to say. This interview reflects that.
A Single Man is the most beautiful movie I've ever seen. (I'm in my 60s)
@@maryseman7019 GO WATCH NOCTURNAL ANIMALS!
This guys suit is so on point.
Ryan Chang suit up!!!!! Ryan you didn't suit up!
Yup, tailored to the millimeter ✂️📐📌
Well ...he IS a fashion designer, so one would hope so!
Tom is a well of humanity, existential exploration, and insight. People seem to get so caught up with Tom Ford the Legend that they don't really listen to what Tom the man is expressing. He speaks with such conviction and passion :) Really love watching his interviews for this film!
Good, interesting interview. Decent questions by the interviewer too. Going to see "Nocturnal Animals" again this weekend. It definitely calls for a second viewing! Beautifully made.
I loved the movie, it was so intense and so well writen. Looking foward to his next film
'Nocturnal Animals' was such a great film.
This is a really good movie. Its not for the faint of heart.
I love this man
I love that he doesn’t want to compare fashion and film, because his respect for both are purely genuine. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾and by the way, one of my favorite films, and score of all time. IMO
I adored Nocturnal Animals. Tom Ford is so suave! I have a review of the film up on my channel for anyone interested.
holy fckn i thought nocturnal animal's director had more experience! goddamn this guy is so fckn good at it gotta say im impressed

just saw it beautiful as expected plus Abel's soundtrack top class!
Such a talented and handsome man!
Tom Ford, I'm now your fan. Brilliant film. Jeez.
I hope he does make another, unlike the unbelievably awesome Joanthan Glazer, who says that he has no plans to make another film and doesn't even consider himself a film maker. WTF!!!!????!!
Amazing man, mind, heart and soul.
"Follow the signs, I'm wise enough to realize that I failed at this situation because it's pushing me to a different direction." -Tom Ford
he's very polite dealing with some of these questions
Ford's multi-talented, respect! By the shway, DP/30 interviewer, when the subject gives you cues to cease specific topics, quit pushing it.
Every conversation is different. Some people need a push, some don't. All determined on the fly... like in real life.
I think I know which moment you are referring to (19:20), however I feel that Ford misinterpreted the intent of the question.
+Georgia S Well expanded explanation. In the past, I've committed the sin of pushing conversation onto people and it didn't work out then, one should not expect it to work in a Q&A forum. Overall, you can choose to grow from those moments.

This DP 30 guy has probably conducted near a thousand interviews. You'd think he'd at some point become proficient at them.
He's just blurting out whatever is coming to his mouth at the moment. Hahahaha!
Haha, "I learned to read in the first grade..." The subtle shade from this guy.
The interviewer won’t stop interrupting
A very intelligent man. And Christ I miss living in London.
How can a designer make such a deep and evocative film. I just cant turn my head around it.
It's just because we often underestimate designers. Hence the element of surprise. After watching his interviews I'm not surprised at all. He is profound and knows how to work.

An amazing artist
That silky smooth man
to see how tom talks and his mannerisms, i'd love to see him work with stanley tucci. they have a eerily similar vibe.
He was 54 here. Let that sink in
Wow!!!😮

One of the few persons that looks comfortable and perfect in a suit and tie!!😮😮
He is greater Than any professor oh boy if a Guy Like that crossed my path i Woould be glued to Him talking
Tom Ford is a blessed man ... So many gifts !
I really hope he keeps making movies!
Must be so exhausting to answer the same questions time and again
Didn’t like the machine-gun like style of the questions... the interviewer seems almost angry. Tom is such a dreamboat! Love him.
His sense of humour : wow and so Down to earth

this guy is almost 60 holy shit!
Bruce Lee theres not a big difference between a 30 or 35 year old, 40 or 45. Brad Pitt today looks the same as he did 2010.
sharp dressed man.
Does he actually age?
botox works wonders
John Nguyen I do Botox for migraines and I've decided people that do Botox for vanity are out of their minds! It hurts like hell!
only on weekends bro,

Tom Ford has to make more movies
Damn, this guy gets it.
very good movie
I wonder if Tom was talking about Morgan Freeman. Lmao
=) Probably.
liam neeson
I was thinking of Sam Elliot.
Hes conscious about being so conscious that he's conscious. A little too much self-aware to be really honest.
He looks like he tries intentionally not to show his teeth. Notice there is not one single picture of him online with him smiling with his teeth showing
NaijaCINE Good observation. He's in control of his own image. Not good for him. But we can appreciate his films anyway.
