I saw John Paul in 2000 at Irving Plaza in N.Y.C. One of the 5 best concerts I have ever witnessed.

I will always follow Jonesy! His work changed my life as a listener of music and as a bass player. I met you once. It was 1988 or so, at the Ritz in NYC. He produced the band "Mission UK". He also played keyboards on that album and I was in awe to meet him and see him play. I follow all you do J.P. Jones. Your a true master artist

You know if Led Zeppelin had carried on ..if John Bonham had never passed on...I think they would have taken a hiatus after In Through The Out Door and their last tour because they had been going for 12 years strong...punk rock had shown up and I think it would have been good personally for all of them. Time to regroup and rejuvenate themselves ..but then I am sure they would all have gotten back together again at some point......and created even more extraordinary work between 4 of them. They were all so creative and brilliant players. Never standing still like some. Can you imagine Robert Plant's voice over this? Add the touch of Jimmy Page and John Bonham to mold it into something even better ..not that these guys aren't talented..just that with Jimmy and JOhn ..it takes it to a whole other stratosphere. Led Zeppelin sure set the bar high. Be a long time before anyone gets there I think. Greta Van Fleet is trying ..but they need to push the envelope a lot further in writing and musicianship. Give them credit though ...they are trying. I think there are going to be some coming out of a classically trained background with the chops ...that are going to discover some sort of inner connection with that energy that drove people like Howlin Wolf and some of the other blues greats. The same thing that happened to the Zep. The love of music that was raw and moved you but them push them to something different ..new and great. I hope so anyway.

@hottubedude JPJ begins on an 8-string bass then switches to a bass lap steel. Nick Beggs plays a Chapman Stick. The drummer is Terl Bryant.

Not easy music but still original. John Paul Jones seemed not to want to use keyboards at this time while he's a talented keyboard player too. Nick Beggs and Terl Bryant are outstanding musicians, and were both in the fantastic Celtic progressive band IONA in the early 90's. Bryant has stayed in Iona a bit longer than Beggs, who has since then also worked with Steve Hackett and Steven Wilson.

@beeterolds It looks similar to a mandocello; the difference is the tuning. A mandocello's lowest string is a C2 and ascends in fifths; its courses are tuned in unison. The lowest string of an 8-string bass is an E1 and ascends in fourths; its courses are an octave apart. Observe the strings of Jones's instrument and you will see that each pair of strings consists of a thick and thin string. The courses of a mandocello are two strings of the same thickness. This is a Manson 8-string bass.

Not true. You don't have to hate or degrade Page to appreciate JPJ. Both are amazing. JPJ fared a lot better as time went on, tho.
