  • Gravesend Australia Diecast Salvage LIVE at DMC Saturday Night LIVE (RECORDED version)
G’Day G’Day, my friends if you missed me being interviewed / chatting with some of the Diecast and Modellers Community (DMC) members, here is your chance to catch up.
We had conversation on how I got into this hobby, some of the things I used, my inspirations and aspirations. We talked about 3D printers and Vacuum Formers, What I have on my workbench at the moment, and some of the things I do behind the scene at Gravesend Australia Diecast Salvage.
Future editions on DMC Saturday Night Live we’ll delve further into different aspects of the hobby of restoring / customising diecast vehicles from choosing a cast to the end results and what happens in between.
As DMC Saturday Night LIVE is still in it’s infancy our strategy is to have a quest appear 1 week the following week a discussion on technique or products like 3D printers, the Pro’s and Con’s, is it right for you or a waste of money. We are NOT EXPERTS so YOUR input is important to US and OTHERS out there.
We want YOUR input so that’s it SHARED with others.
The next guest on DMC Saturday Night LIVE will be Paul James from Pimp My Diecast. He’s a very knowledgeable person and should prove to be a very interesting evening/morning for me as DMC Saturday LIVE airs at 8:00pm Saturday night UK time it’s 5:00 am Gravesend Australia time.
    Cheers everyone
    Michael

And what I like about this format, there are few interruptions: I can be guilty of interruption myself, I know, but it was nice listening to you guys without the rabble! I think the whole process of videoing what I do is an insurmountable technical problem!

Playing catch-up here. I wrote a story on the '59 Impala for a magazine, 9 years ago according to FB this morning, so I just reposted it on the page. Lovely motors, and the '59 models were unique to that year! The Hudson is wonderful, Michael - whatever you are doing wrong seems to be working!
What's the Patreon process? I've learned a lot from you guys so it might be nice to support you now..

Last comment, Boys: Michael is incredibly modest!

OK. I lied! I want (at 1hr40mins) a Bond Bug, an MGB, both Corgi, a few classic Dinkies, like the Triumph Renown and the Riley and the humpback Vanguard, and a Standard Atlas and there will be others. I need to get out more. Collecting and/or restoring is just part of the hobby: I have never sold, only done commissions of passion subjects for friends, no TV or Film stuff and almost nothing that's not British. Martin's disaster stories are terrific - and totally familiar!

50 minutes in, and 3D printing - one thing that could be made and sold easily, I think, would be getting sets of scale wing mirrors to fit Vanguards. They are impossible to buy as aftermarket spares, and nine times out of ten, because they were separate parts in the original box, they're missing. I could use about 20 sets in the three designs straight away! Likewise, a kind of generic interior set that might work in the older Dinkies and Corgis. I don't have the computer skills to devise the programmes never mind understand the software, and I probably don't do enough models or restorations to justify my own kit. But I am happy to contribute to or to pay for stuff I need, to complete the little finishing details I want for my wee motors. And there are enough unmade restoration parts to be able to find stuff to produce - I cannot get a replacement bumper for a Vanguard Commer K8, and I bet I am not the only collector who has one missing.
I would be comfortable paying to send an example to someone, having them use it as a sample, and getting the original and a good copy back: the producer can then make as many copies as he wants: I'm not bothered since I get my bit, and if the producer can make more money by selling the copies on, let him fill his boots!
