Great video, love the barrel with so much life around it , amazing to see so many triple tails such a picky and finicky fish but awesome on the grill. Dolphin and wahoo all that's missing for me some big amberjack donkeys and thats a perfect fishing day for me .
Yes, on calm days you can easily can in on some dolphin action with a 19 footer. You will also be able to target/catch sailfish, wahoo and blackfin tuna. Capt Mike
Capt. Mike you should bring that see vee 29 down here to dominican republic and call it caribbean sport fishing, just landed this sunday a 184 pound yellowfin. I think you will like out giant fish 2 to 3 mile run fishing. Watched all episodes and also use couple of the services and products advertirded here, take care tight lines.
Thank you for watching, we appreciate the support. New episode being posted on our You Tube Channel today, it wont air on TV for about two weeks, so you can get a sneak peak. Capt Mike
Depends on the bait, we catch pilchards/sardines/herring on sabiki rigs in Boca Inlet, Hillsboro Inlet and off the local piers. Goggle eye are targeted at night from 50-500 feet, each night is different. You have to find the schools. Juvenile bonito and blackfin can be trolled in 100-400 feet up and down the coast. Capt Mike
old episode, a lot has changed. If you haven't yet, PLEASE join www.FSFTV.com ASAP! You'll find 300+ instructional videos on a wide range of topics, no youtube ads and a 24/7 fishing helpline. - Capt Mike
Hello Capt. Mike. I just got an XRap 30, should I change the treble hooks it brings to large circle hooks if so what size. Thanks I really enjoy your show.
Hi capt mike, great video. Question for you, was the dolphin fishing slowed noticeably in se Fl over past couple years? We’ve been going out for past 15 yrs and always had considerable lunch with the dolphin and if no luck , 100 to 300 ft depth off donation always produced a few black fin. But last couple years has been slooowww! Also noticed cleaning table at marina way too clean and little to no carcasses beneath it. What are you seeing?
cap mike im not upset with you for keeping fish. im upset with the big commercial fishing boats . they are ones who need be throwing some back. they are in it for the buck not the dinner table or the love. keep whatever you want brotha you fished it. your not the bad guy hurting the species count the commercial guys are!!! thank you for the uploads and info
I will like to know what brand of spinning reels ya have there I'm planning to go this year for dolphin season to the keys and I need to get a extra reel I wonder if ya can tell a average one not over $200 thanks forward
+RedPeperjack There are still some weediness offshore, however during the winter months you will find dolphin on the edge chasing ballyhoo and other bait schools. Look for clean blue water and good current in 100-300 ft of water. Thanks for watching. - Capt Mike
Hi! Great waters for trolling, was there in the 90´s with great results. What do you do with your catch? I see moore C&R these days is that anything you consider? Or is the fish stock big enought to save the catch? Also, why dont you use braid line? Any advantages with mono? Thanx!
Jonatan Hedberg When trolling and targeting pelagic species that jump like crazy, I like mono as it provides more stretch and a level of leeway. Is this particular venue, its not all about sensitivity and line diameter. On a different note, we release many fish and we also keep our fair share for the dinner table.Thank you for watching. - Capt Mike
+Pablo Morell Depending on conditions, i'll pull ballyhoo from 5 to 10 knots. Yesterday out in 600+ feet with huge 8 ft rollers, it was like 6 knots. - Capt Mike
I love your show but everything you use i cant afford but its good to watch whats available for fishing . I use a hand line because rods are expensive . We catch everything . I live in the carribean so fishing is everyday
a few times. the seas have gotta be calm for the sheets to stay close together. works just like a weed line and you can troll right through the middle of it
Hey capt mike might have no notice but your camera man has captured to colors of the 10 pound dolphin capt carlos cought.every time the camera goes back to show the dolphin.you can see the blues on him how the Brighton up & the go dark.nice videos.luv the show
+xNoahAC LKots! Everywhere from 100 feet on out to 1,000 ft depending on conditions, water color, debris, etc. Every day is different but there are fish out there now and the bite is on! Go get 'em! - Capt Mike
I am new to trolling for big game fish like dolphin and are getting ready for a trip to the keys. And I was wondering if you can give me any tips about trolling for mainly dolphin or other big game fish. any tips are helpful. thanks and love the show!!
Very sorry for the late response and thank you for watching. You are certainly headed to the right place if it is dolphin you are looking for. When heading offshore, look closely for birds, any sort of floating debris, well formed weedlines, color changes, etc. Focus your efforts arounds these areas which are likely to hold bait and the game fish you seek. Always be ready with a spinning rod/bait. When you hook a dolphin on the troll, there are often more around, so toss a live bait out quickly. Also, when you do hook up on the troll, dont be so fast to pull back the thottles. Keep forward momentum at the same speed for a ten count and you'll often turn one strike into two or three fish on. Thanks again and catch 'em up! - Capt Mike
Ibnu Pasha Papadimitriou I always recommend a leader tied to end of braid, it provides increased stealth, stretch and abrasion resistance, what are you fishing for? - Capt Mike
Ibnu Pasha Papadimitriou I still recommend a monofilament top shot or wind-on on top of the braid. It provides greater stealth, greater abrasion resistance and the elasticity prevents pulled hooks. - Capt Mike
What exactly is a slick? Often times I see them with no weeds in them and I'm not sure if they are worth fishing. I'm just curious on what they are scientifically.
not very well, you can using a bridle in the back but ballyhoo die very easily, you could have a 1000 dollar livewell system and still have them die off quick, thats why they are typicall dead bait. Plus wish such a not hearty fish even if you get a live one, the stress of casting will kill it and make it not natural
We've had our boat for a while now and haven't really caught anything. We're out of Boca and usually go from Boynton to Pompano. Any like known places for trolling or drift fishing. Haven't had much luck at all.. Feel free to private message me with some tips Thanks!
I cant wait to leave the lone star state and move to Florida. I have a 19ft bay boat with a 50hp yamaha, could a small boat like that be enough to get me on some dolphin or even on some tuna?
I caught a few five miles off gulf shores Alabama in September out of a 17 foot skiff. I was told I was lucky to catch them that close to shore and also called an idiot for taking a small skiff that far out. Are they right saying that?
+yamahapeanut44 No reason you can't go five miles offshore in a 17 ft skiff, as long as you have the proper safety equipment and conditions allow you to do so. - Capt Mike
Hey man, My name is joe. I live in Jamaica and am an avid angler. I'm 15 and moving back to Florida to finish school. I live in Pembroke Pines and I was wondering if there is any chance we could set up a trip together because I don't have much people to go fishing with in Florida. I'll be back in Florida in school in August. Let me know if we could set up a meeting. I'd really love to continue ocean fishing throughout my life.
MrJDP1974 Hi and thank you for watching. Truthfully, there were only two schoolies on the barrel, we tried everything to raise more 'phins, they never showed. Capt Mike
Florida Sport Fishing That is the way it goes! Great job regardless! I fish out of Moorhead City, NC and I really enjoy watching your vids during these cooler months as we wait for our spring/summer Dolphin bite to return! It is great to watch you guys spot fish for Palegics! We are a bit spoiled as 99% of the time, we have a thick line of Sargasso right at the edge of the Stream that you can follow ALL DAY LONG. We hit that hard for gaffers early and then leave one in for schoolies on Spinning Rods if we want to spice it up and top of the dolphin coffin. Also this year, the Bluefin migration came back to this part of NC as well! They were gone for several years and were only within reach from points closer to Hatteras (which is a long and expensive run from Cape Lookout). It was really great to have that bite come back...just about the time we were thinking it was not going to happen ever again!
wow...you guys troll fast...Ho fast are you trolling over the water...8.5 knots? Ive troilled that fast or maybe a little faster for tuna up north...but didnt think it would produce down here? Help a brother out!!!LOL
You're not going to outrun these fish, as long as conditions allow and your able to achieve a proper trolling presentation, don't be afraid to push it up to 8, 10, even 12 knots.
I will say it again.. This show gets me through my NY winters... Keep them coming Mike....

Which sea vee model are you using for this video?
Hey, no that its going into the fall/winter months, and there arent many weedlines, whats an effective way to still catch dolphin?

the wahoo are known for slicing a bait in half right? and that's why you want 2 hooks on the trolling lure or am I wrong?
+Austin Nation Yes, wahoo and king mackerel are notorious for slicing a bait in half so that second hook often makes the connection. - Capt Mike
carlos rodrigues por favor cual reels es el k usas dorado y negro y que medida es,por favor.gracias
Great video, what's an ideal trolling speed for mahi?
Depending on lures or natural bait, conditions, etc, 6-10 knots. - Capt Mike
What baits do dolphins like
I am new to trolling for big game fish like dolphin and are getting ready for a trip to the keys. And I was wondering if you can give me any tips about trolling for mainly dolphin or other big game fish. any tips are helpful. thanks and love the show!!

Yes, we fish Daiwa Saltist spinners, 5000 & 6500. Capt Mike
What rod/reel is that you use for trolling ?
Chaos KC 15-30 7'0".
if i use 80 pound hi-vis orange braided line without any wire leader, will it affect the fishing?
Ibnu Pasha Papadimitriou I always recommend a leader tied to end of braid, it provides increased stealth, stretch and abrasion resistance, what are you fishing for? - Capt Mike
Florida Sport Fishing i usually fish for wahoo, dolphin, and tuna. i do not fish in US, i fish in Bali in Indonesia
Ibnu Pasha Papadimitriou I still recommend a monofilament top shot or wind-on on top of the braid. It provides greater stealth, greater abrasion resistance and the elasticity prevents pulled hooks. - Capt Mike
Florida Sport Fishing thx
How far were you out for the Dolphin and where, if you don't mind me asking? ;)
8 - 12 miles out that particular day.
I have one that i use for king off the gulf shores pier, I love it
What rods were you using on the smaller dawia's?
Chaos Gold KC 15-30 7'0" - Capt Mike
ok thanks!
And the reels were..?
Daiwa Saltiga 50H. - Capt Mike
Awesome trolling I am a fisherman too !!!!!!!!!
What exactly is a slick? Often times I see them with no weeds in them and I'm not sure if they are worth fishing. I'm just curious on what they are scientifically.
Do you ever go to the west hump or the marathon hump
Yes, Ive been there numerous times blacken tuna fishing. Awesome!
How do you hook live ballyhoo for casting for mahi/dolphin
not very well, you can using a bridle in the back but ballyhoo die very easily, you could have a 1000 dollar livewell system and still have them die off quick, thats why they are typicall dead bait. Plus wish such a not hearty fish even if you get a live one, the stress of casting will kill it and make it not natural
I only have two rods I can use for trolling is that too few?
100%, two baits in the water are far better than no baits!
get a bigger spread when possible
We've had our boat for a while now and haven't really caught anything. We're out of Boca and usually go from Boynton to Pompano. Any like known places for trolling or drift fishing. Haven't had much luck at all.. Feel free to private message me with some tips

I cant wait to leave the lone star state and move to Florida. I have a 19ft bay boat with a 50hp yamaha, could a small boat like that be enough to get me on some dolphin or even on some tuna?

dolphinfish, AKA Mahi Mahi or dorado, not porpoises. - Capt Mike
That first mahi-mahi was a horrible gaff you don't gaff in the stomach oh wait it's a mahi mahi if you get a gaff in anywhere it's ok lol😁
How fast are u trollin
Is it me or did the thumbnail say weehoo
It said Weehoo, slang for juvenile wahoo. - Capt Mike
God watching this stuff is torture. Grouper fishing gets boring over here in SW florida!
Ok, i like eating fish too!

They are ocean tally not trigger fish on the barrel

its a Clark spoon
Why do you guys gaff the little dolphin?
That's the smallest wahoo I've ever seen,I don't think you should of kept it
That's the difference between Yankees and Natives.
should have.
They’re arse wipes for taking such a small wahoo!

Catching bait
Btw it's zebra of the sea just a Fyi

That shark looks dead yo
clark spoon
do y'all ever throw out sheets of newspaper, mark it, then come back and fish it a few hours later?
no no no killing fish
messom sala Take my word for it, we release the vast majority of everything we catch. Thank you for watching. - Capt Mike
When u catch the small dolphin they don't have a chance to replenish the stock. Stop catching the young dolphins.
