My Chinese new era hat fits like a dream and has no loose thread issues BUT my USA made hat in the same size fits much looser than the Chinese hat and a had a few loose threads. I had to go through a few USA made hats to find one without a bunch of loose threads. I just assumed they were all made in China but this video made me realize that there is a difference.
This actually makes tons of sense, I read the receipt on my giants hat I just bought, and it was from 2007, perfect condition, on field, made in U.S.A. Fit beautiful before I even bent the brim. Now I went and bought another one with a black brim rather than an orange brim, made in china, more recent hat, and it fit different. Mainly around the ears.
I'm a big New Era collector got around 40 hats but I've got to be honest, I didn't know about the made in USA/China thing, thanks a lot for that will definately be looking for the USA made because I tested some of mine that said USA/Chine. From now on I'm looking for the USA made cause they feel a lot better!
I break mine in the same way. Pull it out of the box, take the stickers off, curve the bill and boom! Good to go. I like the high crown look. I have 1 of each of the A's on-field caps and one Giants on-field cap. I never use hair dryers or water on my caps. Just wear it and it'll get broken in. Especially during a Florida summer. One day around town. Done.
Just watching this clip then realized it’s 8 years old. Nice job dude but as you well know USA hats are done. Now to get a China made you’re scoring well, ever get one from Haiti? Brutal fit and look. Be well👍👍
This guy knows exactly what he is talking about. One example is Kris Bryant who puts very little bend at all in his hat and retains the so called boxy look; however, some players such as Josh Tomlin do wear the low profile 59fifty hat.
Like 20 years ago, I understood some or most pros didn't like the structured cap so they'd cut out the backing on the interior of the crown. It was kinda the look of the 50's and sixties like maybe Koufax. It's a slightly nerve-wracking surgery. I did it to my '96 O's 5950 and '07 Cubs 59/50. I prefer a flat bill, high crown for the last 7 years.
Here's the magic to keep the flatter brim & unboxing the crown....you can have both. Bake the hat in the oven at 200 Celsius (middle rack on baking sheet) for 5 minutes at a time. After 5, put the hat on and mold it to your head. Rub you hands in a downwards and backwards motion. It might take a few cycles but this will eventually make the hat perfectly fitted to your dome. When it gets tight after awhile, do it again and it will be good as new. In my experience, the high crown will actually fit better than the low crown after this method....never paid attention to China vs USA though. The hat keeps its shape better. By the way, I never touch the brim and just let it form naturally.
I enjoyed your video. I use a baseball and rubber bands to break in my fitted hats.I also like the brim on my hats fully curved. I only have new era caps. All the ones I have are high crown ones. I am getting my first low crown from New Era on thursday. I hope I like it
I know your a purist, but for me at least, the hairdryer treatment was,nt to actually turn my high crown New Era into a low profile hat. It was simply to soften the shape and take the "boxy" look out of the crown - I still want the high crown, but not so angular looking. I think over time they naturally loose the boxy shape anyway but the dryer will achieve the rounder shape quicker. I love the structured hat...but more so when the straight sides are softened a little. Im not into the low crown so much. Very interesting video by the way.
Thanks for the review. You answered my question about the "low crown". I need to get the size up due to them fitting tighter. Also people, keep in mind hair length plays a role in the fitment of the hat. Clearly when I've recently had a haircut, the hat is looser.
I'm sure the same applies to the NFL caps ever since New Era signed the contract to license NFL caps. The NFL also has the training camp 3930 for those that don't like the boxy look. Those are good points about the USA and China caps. I've notice the material difference between the two.
Yo people in comments quit knocking people on keeping the stickers man to each their own for real seriously it’s just as ridiculous. Your hat your look you can keep stickers on or off if you want plain and simple. Either way brother good video and technique man some hats take a few bends but it gets the job done
I work in minor league baseball and there is literally a room filled with Home and Away hats I can only imagine in professional baseball is the exact same thing
Is there anybody in there? I just want to know if when is the first time of release of the new era that made in usa i think usa is first before china and bangladesh
having a friend that now works for 59Fifty and a couple that work in Lids stores, the way you're saying to break in your cap isn't exactly correct, you don't wanna bend the cap right in the middle, it will deform the cap over time.
I prefer leaving the New Era sticker(because it's more unique as opposed to size stickers on jeans. It's just different.), but remove the price/barcode shi because that's tacky as hell to me. I like 'em a bit oversized and the brim flat to slightly curved. Just my preference since my style is different. But yeah, I'm here because I prefer low crown(assuming those are the ones that fit lower on your head). One thing that always bothered me is that I could never tell if I'm buying a low crown or high crown unless I'm trying it on myself. There are no labels or indicators saying which is which. Only time I know if I'm getting a low crown is when I'm buying a White Sox fitted. They always fit me low crown and that could probably be by chance.
If you don't like the high crown look, best way is blowdryer. In college I once put a fitted hat in the washing machine and it pretty much ruined it. Came out with a different texture and was really shrunk, even though I didn't dry it in the dryer. You're a goon if you wear anything with the stickers still on it.
Nice and simple! Thats how i always do it but i dont bend my brim as much as you did. I definetly dont fuckin steam my hats and blow them in the shower and mold them like a mouth piece to my head lol!!! For that I have my reebok hats which are already broken in from factory!! New era is designed to hold its shape!
I have a lot of teams hats, but I'm a Red Sox fan. I wear my red sox the most, but I like the way the others look too. It doesn't matter if you wear other teams, just don't wear baseball caps if you don't watch baseball, or know anything about it for that matter.
Also a Red Sox fan and wear the hat the most but have other teams hats that I also wear. Don't see what the big deal is? Lots of classic great hats and teams that i respect.
still looks to wigger 4 me. The onfield caps worn by msot white mlb players all looks perfectly fitted. I dont think they use this technique exactly. Maybe tehy steamthem?
There is good reason for leaving the stickers on you get a big patch on your hat were it use to be if you take it of so calm your shit I would of thought that decision is that if the buyers anyway
I break my 59fifty in the same way just bend the brim and wear it. Stay away from the chinese on fields they just don't break in and the crowns are huge.
Not all stickers have the size on them for a good start so thats a foolish begining to the video and instead of bending the snapback brims. Why don't you just buy ones like that.
Who the hell cares how the pros do it? Also I used to be a purely bend the bill with my hands person but if you put it in a coffee mug it keeps the bend better.
that certainly hasn't been my experience. Chinese caps are dust magnets and have horribly inconsistent sizing. I own over 45 caps and i find myself always reaching for the ones made in the USA.
pigjubby1 lol what? The USA caps are FAR superior. You can literally feel the difference in quality of materials. I even prefer the Indonesia caps New Era uses now over anything made in China.
so bend the beak and it is broken in? I watched this for that? Come on bro. They don't use their ball gloves the first day they get them. You got to break em in!!
ive a few made in usa and a few made in china and the made in usa are trash compared to the china ones, stitching isn't as clean and they seem more likely to have loose threads
LOL I love that you say first and foremost to take off the stickers. I totally agree.
mets hat yankees shirt. bold man
My Chinese new era hat fits like a dream and has no loose thread issues BUT my USA made hat in the same size fits much looser than the Chinese hat and a had a few loose threads. Love the passive aggressive message at the beginning.
I'm a big New Era collector got around 40 hats but I've got to be honest, I didn't know about the made in USA/China thing, thanks a lot for that will definately be looking for the USA made because I tested some of mine that said USA/Chine. Oh yeah, great video on your opinions.
Im 38. This is how hats used to fit back wen we wore them right with a bend in the bill
Here's the magic to keep the flatter brim & unboxing the crown....you can have both.

You're right regarding the stickers. Take them off. They look stupid.
If you bend it you have to take off the sticker or else you look dumb
I enjoyed your video. I use a baseball and rubber bands to break in my fitted hats.I also like the brim on my hats fully curved. I only have new era caps. All the ones I have are high crown ones. I am getting my first low crown from New Era on thursday. I hope I like it

Great job man. I’m tired of watching people who know nothing about hats.

Most players go through less than five hats a season but some players go through a lot more
Yo people in comments quit knocking people on keeping the stickers man to each their own for real seriously it’s just as ridiculous. Your hat your look you can keep stickers on or off if you want plain and simple. Either way brother good video and technique man some hats take a few bends but it gets the job done
Well done man some people put bs about hats.
I don't take off my stickers because I like the look LOL
I work in minor league baseball and there is literally a room filled with Home and Away hats I can only imagine in professional baseball is the exact same thing
Guys on the field wear the low crown hats without the new era patch. Those don't need to be broken in too much
i totally agree with this dude
Is there anybody in there? I just want to know if when is the first time of release of the new era that made in usa i think usa is first before china and bangladesh
having a friend that now works for 59Fifty and a couple that work in Lids stores, the way you're saying to break in your cap isn't exactly correct, you don't wanna bend the cap right in the middle, it will deform the cap over time.
Mike Lorusso I’ve also noticed that when u bend the brim, the brim gets flimsy from bending it so much
stickers are for kids
I prefer leaving the New Era sticker(because it's more unique as opposed to size stickers on jeans. It's just different.), but remove the price/barcode shi because that's tacky as hell to me. I like how he has a Mets hat and a Yankees shirt... 😂
I have the 59Fifty and 39Thirty fitted caps. My 59Fifty caps, I leave the brims flat, but my 39Thirty caps I curve them.
😀🧢😀🧢😀🧢😀🧢😀🧢😀🧢😀🧢
Its not the low crown cap that you streched right?
i totally agree with this guy
also i just barely curve my brim. not completely flat but slight curve like bryce harper or stanton kinda
I keep the sticker on mine and keep the brim flat cause I'm a fucking G
+T MED G = gay?????
Low crown caps is almost impossible to find in my country, what now?
If you don't like the high crown look, best way is blowdryer. In college I once put a fitted hat in the washing machine and it pretty much ruined it. Came out with a different texture and was really shrunk, even though I didn't dry it in the dryer.
You're a goon if you wear anything with the stickers still on it.
Actually, Mickey Mantle used to spit around the logo to soften it up. then he curved the brim around a baseball and put it inside a coffee mug.
Which fan are you because you have on a yankee shirt and mets hat so are u a met fan or a yankee fan
buy the low crown hat. or the 100% wool hats from the cooperstown collection and shrink it
Do you know if the brim is the same size on the low crown as the high crown?
Greg Rote yes they are the same size
Nice and simple! Thats how i always do it but i dont bend my brim as much as you did. I definetly dont fuckin steam my hats and blow them in the shower and mold them like a mouth piece to my head lol!!! For that I have my reebok hats which are already broken in from factory!! best way to break in a hat...sweat.. just wear it.
0:42 I so much agree with that O,o
I'm just confused as to why you have Yankees AND Mets hats? Which one is it?? You're clashing...
I have a lot of teams hats, but I'm a Red Sox fan. I wear my red sox the most, but I like the way the others look too. It doesn't matter if you wear other teams, just don't wear baseball caps if you don't watch baseball, or know anything about it for that matter.
Thats the dumbest thing I have ever heard...You're a SOX fan but wear other teams for looks!? You fucking ass hat
Also a Red Sox fan and wear the hat the most but have other teams hats that I also wear. Don't see what the big deal is? Lots of classic great hats and teams that i respect.
I leaf the sticker on it look cooler
No, just no.
I keep the stickers and bend it ever so slightly.
You douche bag....lol
I also only bend the bill slightly. I thought about keeping the stickers but I really like the color of the cap.
People use water or other methods to break in the hat size, not the brim
my only question is why wear a Yankees shirt and buy a Mets hat? kinda the biggest contradicting move ever isn't it?
still looks to wigger 4 me. The onfield caps worn by msot white mlb players all looks perfectly fitted. I dont think they use this technique exactly. Maybe tehy steamthem?
I wear mine when I workout. The sweat makes it form to your head.
Nice racist term dick head
You look like Kipp from Napoleon Dynamite.
The reason why the hats look better on baseball players because they are athletes they sweat the sweat molds the hat to their head better on them geez
beatlemania I think a lot of the players look like dorks in the on field caps.
You have a mets hat and a Yankees shirt!! 😂😂😂😂
and your point?
Brad Jackson he's joking
There is good reason for leaving the stickers on you get a big patch on your hat were it use to be if you take it of so calm your shit I would of thought that decision is that if the buyers anyway
+paul trevers Thats why you take it off while the hats new...
that doesnt fix the crown its still looks bulky depending on the persons head.
I don't bash you for taking your stickers off your hat. To each his own.
Stickers are gay....
Why would you bash him for taking off his stickers? It's common sense..
I mean I can understand buying other teams cuz I do the same thing but buy something of one of your biggest ricval? comeon man
But in my opinión the crown Still looks bad
hey jim...how did you get 45K+ views on this vid? any secret??
If only A rod could hit a homer in the post season.
These Made in China hats are trash, the brim is thinner and flimsier, the embroidery on the logo is thinner and the material is flimsier in general.
I break my 59fifty in the same way just bend the brim and wear it. Stay away from the chinese on fields they just don't break in and the crowns are huge.
It's a hat you put it on you call it a day
I have hornets new era hat custom and that fits buttery it a true fitted
u can fixem bend the brim...
ur a plug but u r great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not all stickers have the size on them for a good start so thats a foolish begining to the video and instead of bending the snapback brims. Why don't you just buy ones like that.
he's not discussing snapbacks in this video. snapbacks are trash
Who the hell cares how the pros do it? Also I used to be a purely bend the bill with my hands person but if you put it in a coffee mug it keeps the bend better.
The Chinese caps blow away the USA caps. I own several of both. The details on USA cap are sloppy.
that certainly hasn't been my experience. Chinese caps are dust magnets and have horribly inconsistent sizing. I own over 45 caps and i find myself always reaching for the ones made in the USA.
My USA Jays hat kicks my Chinese version's ass.
pigjubby1 lol what? The USA caps are FAR superior. You can literally feel the difference in quality of materials. I even prefer the Indonesia caps New Era uses now over anything made in China.
Do some research. The trainers steam the players and coaches on field hats...
so bend the beak and it is broken in? I watched this for that? Come on bro. They don't use their ball gloves the first day they get them. You got to break em in!!
Gloves are made of leather, so....
Why do you have a Mets hat and a Yankees shirt. Wtf.
Thats your team but you have a Yankees jersey on lol
you're wearing a mets hat with a yankees shirt on
why the fuck would you put a fitted in a washing machine.....FAIL
+Jayme Lanuza I just started wearing fitteds. How do you wash yours?
Yes the stickers look stupid
ive a few made in usa and a few made in china and the made in usa are trash compared to the china ones, stitching isn't as clean and they seem more likely to have loose threads
Clorox Jericho true.. bought one today... I'd rather support my country tho and buy usa madw
I cant stand new crowns, they look so dumb.
I like my hats just perfect for me. I don't the boxy ass look but not so low of a crown either.
