I completely agree. Ancient Rome is one subject I wish I had paid more attention to growing up. Now I’m like most people and 80% of what I know about Rome is from Gladiator and other movies/HBO.
A lecture on Rome from Professor Bates would be a great episode

The Bargatze Effect is one's hopeful attempt to learn about a subject in a rather short amount of time only to become more confused, whilst discovering new words that one will never be able to pronounce in a correct manner.

Thanks for the show folks. I majored in history and am graduating summa cum laude with a masters in educational policy, and I love hearing the conversations here. Brunch Box, Aaron and Nate seem like great guys who are connecting with a lot of people. I mostly came to say the answer to 60 across in today’s New York Times crossword was Nate Bargatze. Congrats on everything and I hope to see you live soon.

Nate taking about the word “gravity” made me think: it might be fun to do an episode on words or etymology, which is the study of where words come from, or even where different phrases come from.

This episode checked off alot of the Nateland boxes
    Broad brush topic✓
Spend 30 minutes on a very specific part of that topic✓
Bean makes a joke about his age✓
    Aaron has absolutely random hat✓
Random unrelated aaron references leading to Nate having to scold him✓
    Nate rant✓
Bean rushing to squeeze in all of his fun facts✓
Nate being glad when it's over✓
Keep up the great work guys, p.s. I watch the show so I don't care y'all spent the majority of it looking at a painting that the listeners can't see

I'm in that exact same situation they talked about at the 12:00 mark, my mate's wedding is coming up and he has chosen the most awkward colour for the Tuxedo for the wedding - Deep Purple, a colour that none of us would probably ever wear again, and he got a group deal for us; so we don't even have the option to go get it cheaper elsewhere. He locked us in, and I'm hoping all my other mates just choose that same colour for their wedding. I'm done buying wedding tuxedos.

Man oh man, I have been bingeing this podcast as fast as possible just so I could catch up and leave a comment, but since each episode is ~ TWO HOURS, this has taken me quite a while... But I did it, and here we are! I have learned nothing, but I've loved every minute of it, just like high school for Nate.
The debate about which of these guys is which Seinfeld/Office/whatever character is the wrong conversation IMO. The best analogy I can think of is The Big Lebowski, and every episode further confirms this. Nate is obviously The Dude (El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing), Brownie Brittle is Donnie (with a bit of Huckleberry Hound thrown in for good measure), and Aaron is Walter ("You want a toe? I could get you a toe by 3:00"). Although Nate is pretty put together, so The Big Lebowski is more like Nate if Laura ever left him. Wandering through a grocery store in his bathrobe, paying for one quart of milk with a check.
Love the show, Gary Vider and Graham Kay were my favorite guests. Aaron is definitely the smartest member of the crew, although every so often he says something pretty dumb, which makes me feel better about not going to college.
    Keep up the great work!
P.S. A friend of my dad's (Kevin Eastman) created the Ninja Turtles, it was originally a pretty violent graphic novel series and they drastically changed them into the lovable characters we know to appeal to kids and a wider audience. Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird studied art, and I think they just wanted an homage to classical painters before they realized they would turn into party animals who eat pizza and whatnot. My dad told him his idea was terrible and no one would buy it, but obviously he was way wrong.

    Fun Episode Idea: Flat Earth
Since we already have Big Foot and Aliens under our belts, why not also cover a more down to earth theory--the earth being flat. I think you guys will find the topic more fun and interesting than you might initially think! During the episode, Bingo Bob can read through some of "200 Proofs the Earth is not a Spinning Ball" by Eric Dubay to get the conversations going (pdf linked below).
Also, before shooting the episode, if you guys want to refresh your memories about how society went from believing the earth was flat to believing the earth is a spinning globe, I suggesting watching the documentary "The History of Flat Earth" (video linked below). I'll bet this will be your most watched episode to date, if you guys choose to make it. Love the show, keep killing it guys!

Loved the cast, always do. Two things I must say, first Nate asked about when the Shredder artist appeared, and you mentioned him earlier, Banks is clearly The Shredder, since he shredded one of his works at an auction. And Barkley, you said Da Vinci invented the helicopter, he theorized it, but considering it didn’t become a reality until about 300 years after he died, I don’t think you can say he invented it

In response to this week's comment about groomsmen and wedding etiquette, I have a related story. I recently turned down an invitation to a wedding. My excuse was that work was just too busy and I couldn't figure out how to make the trip. But the groom had an unbelievable response. He said "Well, that will always be a problem forever. Are you never going to another wedding again? When will you not have work?" I was a little shook because that's a great point. Luckily, we were on the phone so I was able to make something up and get out of the conversation. But I think that if we were talking in person he would have had me cornered and I would have had to agree to go to the wedding. What do you guys think about this conversation? Love the podcast, keep it up!

Every time Nate try’s to riff on something and add humor, the guys are quick to get him back on track. It’s almost as if Laura is sending them threatening messages to remind them that they get payed by the hour. Meanwhile, Nate and the audience are unaware. They have even toyed with us by making Nate do an episode on Conspiracy Theories.... are we all just pawns in Laura’s elaborate scheme to educate her husband enough that she can have a half intellectual conversation with him? Here's a simple slacker Wikipedia hack. Don't cite Wikipedia, go to the bottom of the wiki page and look at the references, then cite directly to those.

Attended my son's college graduation from the University of Texas last weekend. Most major universities have a LOT of international students these days, and there are plenty of really difficult names to pronounce. I would pay good money to listen to Nate read the names at a college graduation as the graduates walk across stage!

Hello folks! Love this show! Thank you Nate, Aaron, and Butterfinger for the laughs every week! I enjoy the constant and incessant jabs at each other. Turr Lerr is missing out! What is yall’s favorite Seinfeld episode? I love the one where Kramer gets a line in the Woody Allen movie. Classic! Keep up the good work friends.

Hello folks. Love the podcast. The first episode I watched was the Wild West episode where Easy Breezy Beautiful’s nostrils stole the show by whispering sweet nothings into the microphone. Keep up the great work

I was surprised to see the NY Times crossword puzzle clue today for 60 across was a four letter word for stand up comedian Bargatze.....they obviously haven’t forgotten you up there in NYC....still quite a shock to see your name as a clue to something from the puzzle masters at the NY times crossword. They surely must know there is no chance you could finish the crossword after writing in N-A-T-E..... ;-)))))

I went to the one of the New England Boarding Schools that Harry Potter was based off of (Phillips Exeter, St. Paul's, etc.). One of the things she takes most blatantly is the Gryffindor / Slytherin / Ravenclaw / etc. Our sorting hat was not as theatrical (probably an excel sheet). But if a relative of yours was in a house as an alumni, you'd also be in that house. We also didn't get points for our house from saving the world. It was often from achievements in athletics / academics. Our school was also where the namesake of Ian Fleming's James Bond books went to high school (meaning the original James Bond was originally from NEW England). (there was also a Harry Potter but there is no evidence that he was the namesake).

I did a project on Amerigo Vespucci back in elementary school. From what I remember America is named after him because he is the one to realize that the Americas were a whole new continent and not just India, like Columbus thought. That's also why we have referred to Native Americans as "Indians" because Chris didn't know where he was. It's a fun fact but... ya know... people are listening...

I live in Ft. Wayne and Johnny Appleseed is buried here. You can visit his grave to this day. I hope he's not a myth, because if he is then we have no idea who's buried in that grave.

You guys ever gonna have Aaron’s friend Citrus on the podcast? I think he would bring some pretty interesting opinions to the conversation. At a minimum, he would likely terrify Burly Buckets.

All of you are obviously intelligent. Comedy requires an ability to critically think about things and find a unique perspective while also being relatable. But golly, Aaron is only mildly more intelligent than Nate and BB-8.

I took a tour of the Sistine Chapel about a year and a half ago. They also mentioned that pope the told Michelangelo to hurry up, so he painted a bare butt on the Sun and Moon section, which is right above where the pope stood during mass. Not sure if this is the origin of "mooning" someone, but it seems like it could be.

I’m 45 minutes in, and Bald Eagle has already said “we talked about that in another episode” twice. I figured you guys would run out of stuff to talk about eventually, but I guess I gave you too much credit for expecting it to take longer than 45 episodes
