Your vases became my first source of inspiration as well as your triangles, drops, plants, colours... I can't stop drawing "a little bit of you" in m'y sketchbook !
Oh I loved this! It reminded me of the time I was in hospital for two weeks over last Spring, and my room had the tiniest window up high on the wall with a minimalist view of a few branches of a tree. I spend every day looking at the branches, drawing them over again in pen or coloured pencils, in different light, sometimes with birds, or buds. I swore at the time if I ever saw a tree again I would run away, but I still have the work I made and it was a great lesson - even though I didn't think so at the time!
Oh thank you for sharing that, sometimes necessity is the mother of invention and it is a lovely example of finding small moments of creativity and beauty in tough times. Love Helen x
If you published your sketchbooks, I would without question purchase them. I have said it before, and I know I’m not unique in my opinion because I see so many others saying the same thing - your creativity and enthusiasm are so inspiring. If I owned your sketchbooks (I’m pretending they have been mass-published and are available, heheh), I would treasure them, and I would have them on my own art table where I would flip through them more than any of my other art books. I understand you’re using them as a stepping-off point for creating finished works, but to me your sketchbooks are beautiful collections of works in and of themselves. And to see them as a collection - it would be so fun to have them as a set and be able to look through them as your own tastes in what you create have evolved. Okay, I’ll now break out of my fantasy world where your sketchbooks are readily available to the general public :-D
Also agree 100%. Side note: just read your most recent blog/website post (no video on it that I saw) about our “gremlins” and that story about your mom brought a tear to my eye. And I just love the 10 year old Helen
Your art is very 'me', your colours and shapes bring me joy and I can relate to that feeling of repetition in work. I love doing monoprints of vases and flowers and shapes. Thanks for sharing ❤
I love to watch your videos late in the evening, your art gives me lovely dreams when sleeping and so much inspiration daily, as so many others have already said
Wonderful variations on a theme Helen! Your sketchbooks are so visually pleasing with much to catch the eye. I think that so often we try to grasp inspiration from all over the place and from many influences all at once , rather than hone in on one particular 'thing'. This week I have pared back on trying to do too much with my art and concentrated on the theme of shapes and a unified colour palette and it is helping me to create without all the chaos in my head!😂 Have a lovely week. x
Oh thank you! And yes sometimes it is definitely good to give ourselves a bounding box - a few parameters to work within or option paralysis can set in. Have fun. Helen x
Another great inspirational video, i just love your approach on art and the creative life, you´re so kind Helen.Thank you for sharing! Cheers from Berlin!
Thank you have grown my hair long and enjoy it but washing long hair as you reach the autumn of life is not easy. So finding you and short hair ideas for fine hair is wonderful and timely. What a lovely face you have been graced with, enjoy the gift.
I love this video Helen. About repeating and repeating. I just want to repeat looking at your sketchbooks again and again. I'm not producing much myself just now and hoping I will have a light bulb moment sometime soon!😅❤
Ah I hope you find that lightbulb…sometimes you’ve just got to start small, not expect too much of yourself and see where it takes you…be a kind and compassionate parent to your creative self and try and have a little fun along the way xx
Wonderful! Thank you so much. I have a blog here about the various sketchbooks I use helenwellsartist.com/blog/2022/9/3/sketch-books-filling-them-up-and-my-favourites
Oh thank you! I tend to build up my pages like a jigsaw, piece by piece. So quite intuitively, I’ll add something and then add something else so sometimes the backgrounds are first and other times not… basically no set order xxx

@@HelenWellsArtist thanks so much! your books look bigger in the videos. lol cheers
I luv your bright background. Do u paint them on intuitively after or before the forms and shapes come up?
