For those unfamiliar with Mr. Babbs, he is not a Beat generation writer. He's known as one of the original Merry Pranksters of the 60s. He with author and lead Prankster, Ken Kesey ("One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," & "Sometimes a Great Notion") were the links between The Beats & Hippies. He along with Neal Cassady & Kesey rode the bus known as Furthur. He has some great tales to tell and tells them eloquently.

Well, ya see, history repeats itself regardless of the technology.....yeah we had phones in the '60's!!.....the best comparison would be the "party line"......if you grew up in the 50's or '60's say upstate new york, or eastern california in a small town, the switchboard operator might have you on a party line with several locals.....sort of a conference call if you will.....when i first picked up American beauty, i knew exactly what pigpen was singing about!!

Very much agree with his recommendation of the Original Scroll version of On The Road. What a revelation!

I love that feeling, never heard it called "licking the lag" before.
I once saw an interview with a formula 1 driver that spoke of smelling grass just before it being kicked up during a major wreck of his where he ended up off the track. Very interesting idea, especially when related to creativity and originality.
