  • For safety when carrying a traditional style single action six shooter, keep the hammer down on an empty chamber. go to ‪@FlyingKSports‬ for more cool videos.

It’d really suck if you were carrying it around and all of a sudden you had a hole in you.

Prior to the 1911 grip safety, no "rounds chambered" was the safest way to carry SA automatics too. Some people tried to get away with hammer down on live round, but if you had to go "hands on" you could lose a round regardless if there was one in the chamber. The "Old Timers" like to have something in hand they could beat you with if they were empty. The Whyatt Earp syndrome.

Well luckily you don’t have to do that with new ones because they made it so the firing pin isn’t resting on the primer.

halfcock, always halfcock. 6 rounds on halfcock. the trigger is locked, the hammer needs to be pulled the rest of the way, and the cylinder is locked on some models. or it can rotate freely. all you need to do is draw and fully thumb your hammer to fire.

    • @FlyingKSports

I have a friend who keeps his on halfcock, swears by it. I've heard stories of guys hitting the hammer while on halfcock and breaking the halfcock notch off the hammer. Maybe I'm just a big chicken.

@@FlyingKSports No one with any sense, would carry on half cock but, on the safety notch,{ First Click} is another story and was the way it was designed and intended to be carried fully loaded.
