In Numbers 1:45 it states men over the age of 20 are to go to battle for their country.
The only exception in the Bible is in Deuteronomy 20:1-4. This chapter is part of their Torah .
So, in the Torah the only excuse not to go to battle is if you are a newlywed. For the first year of marriage a young man is not to work or go to war.
