  • Join me in my experience learning to freediving and getting the SSI Level 2 certification in Villefranche-sur-Mer, in the heart of the French Riviera, on the shores of the Mediterranean sea. It’s also the place where the AIDA world championship took place in September 2019.
These are all the minimum requirements we had to pass, in a total of 3 intense days:
    20m depth with fins (CWT)
15m depth with no fins (CNF)
    2:30 minutes static breathhold (STA)
    50m dynamic with fins (DYN)
    15m safety rescue
    Theory test
I trained with the freediving school Chango: Marick and Marine were excellent teachers and I highly recommend the school!

Hello I really enjoyed your video ! Very good one ! I also trained with Marick and Changodiving. But could you let me know what kind of tool your using in the video to train and control your Frenzel ?

      Thanks for the nice comment!
No, unfortunately I don’t know, they just had it at Chango. I hope I can go back there soon :D

It was really hot in september. How come you felt cold with a 5 mm? Nice finning by the way. And the rescue at 15 also well done.

      Thanks! 😊
Yes, it was warm, but my body cools down a lot when doing STA. At the beginning I was fine but after about ~20mins doing CO2 tables I started getting cold. Let me know if you have any tips against this!

@@pattravels Well I guess i haven't any sorry. Maybe it was windy? You actually loose temperature if you stay too much still in the water, maybe i'd feel the same after 20 min without moving. Nice video!

All those requirements in just 3 days? That's way too much pressure. SSI is insane... do they realize this does not work for every one? I know a friend who did Aida 2 and he also complained about the short time of the course. He did get the license in the time given but the pressure was so big and the contractions were so bad he never did any freediving afterwards.

You certainly don’t need to do all that in 3 days! We had limited holiday time so that’s why we did it like that... and we were already pretty confident we would make it when we signed up for it.
You can (and probably should) take more time. I know people who did it in several weeks.
Sorry about your friend... I hope he can get back into freediving at a more relaxed pace.

@@pattravels Ah, ok... Well, no, he's not doing it anymore, for sure. It's the ugliest and most horrific, unnatural, counterintuitive sport for him now. The trauma has really broken him, even in everyday life he is now having problems with all kinds of challenges, whatever they are...🥺

@@jessiecherall5041 oh no... that’s awful! Freediving can be a wonderful sport, but definitely needs to be done at the right pace
      Thanks for the comments :)
