- The original Thereabouts film. The first thereabouts ride came together all at the last minute - as these things do. We had a date locked in for a few months beforehand but we hadn't properly considered exactly where we would go. All we knew was that we wanted to ride through a desert or over a mountain range. Ideas about different routes across the world had been floating around but in reality we had little money, and lacked the logistical skills to organise it. With less than a month until we were meant to leave we decided on Uluru - purely because it was an iconic location everyone knew, which made it easier to explain when people asked where we were going. Once we arrived however, it became pretty clear how special Australia is.

Third time I’ve watched this movie through and it still gives me goosebumps and smiles. Nothing else, and no other people, captures the spirit of cycling and adventure into one TH-cam video.
I don't know if Gus still sees comments here. I'm the guy who awkwardly recognized you on Climax Corner at Tulsa Tough last night, which brought me back to this video. I couldn't put it into words at the time and didn't want to bother your work at hand, but your video and directive work has been a great motivator for me to get off the couch -- and back off the couch after some health issues this year. Great film. Been watching the EF videos about Lachlan on the alternative cycling circuit and this is really cool to see he's always been a bit unorthodox and I mean that as a compliment.

I've seen your videos, and like them, but it seems you need quite a lot of money to go back to basics and to the essence. At least the way you guys do it. You need a car, you need to buy tickets, organise hotel rooms, the bikes are expensive, et cetera. Isn't this merely a form of alternative entertainment for the wealthy? Doesn't that go against that whole essence and back to basics idea?How about doing the Trans Continental or Trans American road race, unsupported? If you want to bring it back to the core, you'll find it there in a cheaper and harsher way, I think.
