  • Hello there! This video is a follow-up to my previous community post where you all voted for the best Diddley Bow headstock design. I am excited to announce which headstock design applied the right amount of pressure to the string against the nut in this video. If you want more details about these headstock designs, leave your questions in the comments section below. -Dr. Liza Seigido

Good deal! Now you have options! I am not really surprised at the outcome. I have an Epiphone (Gibson Les Paul copy) with the slant headstock and Fender Strat with the straight headstock. The Oud is really far out with the headstock tilted all the way back! Better safe than sorry though. Would have sucked to have made a bunch and found out there was an issue.

Hi Mike! The results were definitely a relief. The straight headstock is so much easier to make. Thanks for checking out the video✨💜

I've made a few hundred Diddley Bows over the years and I've always been inclined towards the straight broom handle for the headstock, I've sold more of the broom handle design than angled and I found it is easier to add a 2nd machine head to make a 2 string chugger with this design without much additional work or time. I like your work, seller to seller, I work you're doing good

Hi!!! Thanks for checking out my work ✨💜 I’m with you about the broomstick headstock. 👍 Definitely leaves us with more time to get creative on the rest of the instrument. 🎻

@@psycheopera time to experiment with our instruments is most important, especially when we have many to build. the broom handle solved a lot of those issues back in the early day, so easy to cut a 5ft length in half and screw to the body. I have a cost saving measure for broom handles, I cut a notch in the broom handle for the headstock, provides a good string break angle for tension and I use the wedge I cut out for the floating bridge. give it a try, the result could be helpful

@@psycheopera you are most welcome, Diddley Bows are where I started and I love them. may I ask, is the bridge piece on your Diddley Bows floating or fixed. I ask because if they float, you could offer them to customers as having an adjustable scale, you could go down to a short tenor scale of 20 inches or up to 27 or 28 for a baritone, having the variety and option to do this looks good to a customer or at least, thats been my experience.
I admire your talent, if I my advice and experience is useful to you, you are welcome to it

Hey JP! ✨Thanks for your question and for your detailed build tips!🤩 I've considered addressing your question and other bridge topics in a video.🤔 The bridges on my CBGs are fixed and parallel to the nut. I know this might be seen as a "mistake" in the CBG building world, but I, as a performer, would rather not deal with floating bridges, and most of my customers are novice players who would rather not deal with them either.😁 As for the straight bridge/saddle issue: I know that it can affect tuning, but since I build rustic instruments, perfect intonation isn't one of my goals. I've also chosen a metallic object as a bridge, which already messes with intonation because it preserves vibrations it shouldn't.😮 I see all of these quirks as part of my unique building style. 😁Anyway, do you think this would make an interesting video topic?

I’ve never built a two stringer. 🤔 Gotta add that to my projects list 😃👍✨
