    I tried STL amphub last year when it already had dozens of amp sim, effect, and cab. My mind immediately remembered amp sim from several years ago like Bias FX 1, 2 or Amplitube 3,4,5. The later two products were good at that time. Then amp sim world has moved forward. Newer companies tend to focus on one to four amp sims per product instead of giving dozens amp sims in one product. Basically, I was never fully believe STL could compete with newer company like NDSP, MLS, Nembrini, Audio Assault, Mercuriall, etc.
    Your video opens my mind. STL may not have the feel of NDSP, but it sounds good compared to real amp.

      The sims are always getting better across the board, hard to find a bad one these days!

    Surprised how close they were with everything at noon and not only comparing amp to amp sim but also pedal + amp to pedal sim + amp sim. They sound different but definitely same DNA, and to be honest I liked the tone a lot better with all the knobs at noon, sounded surprisingly balanced, everything after that was super bright and harsh to my ears, and you know that's a lot coming from me of all people haha

      Must have been my IR cause I thought the same haha. And yeah that intro track was the amphub settings at noon, can’t get easier

    That is unreal!! I like all of the amps in amphub but I feel like the SLO 100 and the JCM 800 have some input gain issues or something. I don't have any of the real amps to compare but if you do, it'd be great to see a comparison between those vs the real amps and see of the real ones are that quiet too.

    • @ampspedalspickups

      I dont have them either so its hard to compare. Im in the middle of doing a EVH Stealth comparison but thats Real Amp / TMP / AxeFX / Mercuriall and NDSP Gojira.
      The SLO-100 should be pretty good... but the Marshalls can sound a bit more "metal" than rock in amphub I find

    Awesome, thanks for the comparison. In the first minutes the amp sim was a little louder so, it sounded like it had more mids, but then you matched the volume and it was even closer. Another reference I use often is NAM (or Tonex) captures. A lot of times amp sims like Amphub, NeuralDSP and Helix sound nearly identical to the best captures out there.

    • @ampspedalspickups
      @ampspedalspickups  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah I tried to level match but it can be deceiving sometimes. And yeah it’s not always a “this is better than that” comparison. I think most things these days when setup properly sound incredibly good

    • @ampspedalspickups
      @ampspedalspickups  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I checked but I didnt save the session. I generally use an IR thats a blend of a mesa and orange cab with 57 mics.... or more recently I've done an export out of Mikko2 (free) with 2 mics blended on a mesa cab. Either way some kind of bright mesa cab would be the main sound!

    Sweet video man I use a Engl fireball 60w at practice through a Randall 4x12 with v30s, but I use a fractal FM3 live. What would it take to do a Fractal version video? Or could I maybe join discord and get some tips? I’ve been using slightly changed stock presets but really want my tone to soar live I know people can make super crispy tone with fractal. (co rhythm/solo player here. Alt rock grunge)

    • @ampspedalspickups
      @ampspedalspickups  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t have a fm3 anymore but if you share some samples on discord I’m sure someone can point you in the right direction.
      I’d start a new patch, set master vol to 2, gain at 2-3 (whatever feels good), rest of eq at noon….. then I’d goto dynacabs and choose any typical 4x12 with a 57mic near the centre, do the other one with a dynamic mic (one bright one with body)… blend them til the tone mostly sounds good.
      Then start messing with the amp dials, if you’ve dialled in the cabs well enough you won’t need drastic changes, maybe nudge the mids and treble a bit
      But yeah share some sameples on discord all good

    I knew this, since I played a Helix on stage, and everyone thought I had a tube amp hidden somewhere. It's way easier when people don't see what you're playing.
    But.... Noon vs Noon is not going to give you same results even with tube amps (same brand and model - in perfect working condition), there will always be (small) differences.

    Thanks to precise IRs, amp sims can sound great. 70% of the entire sound is in the cabinet. Then the rest 25% is the amp and 5% pickup types

      I have one more Question. I have the Motu M2 Interface. When i have the Input"Gain" of my Audio Interface at 0.
      How should i set it in Amp Hub? Thats the most important question...maybe you can help me.

    • @ampspedalspickups
      @ampspedalspickups  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Manual says yours is +16dbu. Amphub is +5.2 dbu so leave your gain on the interface at 0 and turn it up 10.8 (or close to it) inside of Amphub.
      +16dbu means you’ve got 16dbu of headroom and +5.2 means only 5.2 of headroom. So generally speaking +16dbu has heaps more headroom (quieter) than only having +5.2 of headroom (louder)… but yeah tldr turn it up 10.8 or 11 in amphub and you’re good to go.

    its because a real amp is using big 12 inch speakers and pushing air, so always gonna feel different in the room. in the mix however nobody knows and anyone who says they can tell is full of BS cos the software is so good now ,with cab impulse repsonses etc .

    For about 5 years amp sims (and top live devices like QC or FM seies) are actually better then average tube amp. Simply because on QC you can have a impossibly good sounding plexi, not your modern day production plexi. You can have cream of the crop IRs that you would never be able to aquaire for recording/home usage, i am not even starting about live. I would risk being bold enough to say that literally everyone who keeps insisting that tube guitar amps are sounding better then top of the line emulations are simply being delusional. Either the person does not understand that listening to a loud amp alone is tricking his mind to consider this a better sound (in case someone does not know, we percieve louder sounds as better, for some odd reason), does some techincal mistakes using a modeler/pluging (like gainstaging, impendance matching etc) or simply wants to believe. And I, again, would presume that most of the cases are the latter. People really like to hear the difference because they want it to be there. In fact, NDPS Tone Imperial plugin sounds so fcking good its really hard to believe they pulled that out. For ages zone of breakup sounds where the hardests for modelers, because a proper setup breaking up amp hugely reacts to players dynamics. You can go from incredibly gentle tones to a searing lead with your right hand alone. It is all gone nowdays, again, best Plexi or Fender tolex emulations prove that.
    But that belief will stay, people wont let it go. WCYD.

      Amps will always have their places they’re the source of truth. But the sims we have now are 95% the way there and have their own advantages like you said, less constraints. The average and pro guitarist is easily covered more than enough options.
      For purist mix engineers I still think nothing beats a real amp setup but it’s the last 5% stuff and not “necessary”. Can get the job done with anything.
