  • After a few weeks using the Aiyima T9, I knew it would be tough to make a short video due it all of it's strange quirks. If you can hang in there, I show all of the features, what I find annoying and compare the T9 to my Cambridge AXA25 amp.
    I recently purchased the T9 Pro and did a comparison video with the OG model here: • Did they really fix EV...
    Purchase here: amzn.to/3zPOKwW
    Also, apologies in advance for calling the T9's outputs when I meant obviously meant inputs, lol.

    I bought my T9 from Randy's review and I've been really impressed. I used it to drive my Magnepan MMG's, which are demanding 4 Ohm speakers and it drove them plenty loud and clear. It doesn't have the rich lusciousness of my McIntosh MA6900 integrated; but, at 3% of the price of my McIntosh, it's a respectable little Class D integrated amp

    Thanks for the review. What speakers did you use for the comparison? I happen to have CA axa35 series plus the CD player. Very surprise if the sound is the same. If the tubes are just buffer, did you test if the T9 can run without the tubes?

    I bought the T9 3 months ago, I have a pair of Chinese-made Q6 Toulihao single-source speakers. Together they sound really great. The Q6 are 8 ohms and 93 dB sensitivity. I am amazed at what sound comes out of this set-up. The clicking does not disturb me at all. The DAC inside the T9 is also decent. BTW I paid US$ 72 for my T9 and $350 for the Q6. They worth every penny I paid.

    Hello, I'm also one of those who bought one of these amps based on Randy's review, then saw the "caveat emptor" review that Sean posted before my purchase arrived. Naturally, I was pretty anxious about what I'd be getting. I've had mine for a while now, and honestly, I totally love it! I did not have the severe clicking issue that some have reported, but did notice that the amp does have some kind of a "sleep" mode if input goes away on some modes. I tried all inputs except coax, as I have no source for that mode, and the amp sounds great with all of them. I use it to drive some little Polk T15 speakers, and they sound very good to my ear. As far as the remote issue - what I believe is happening is that the IR coding that Aiyima uses obviously has some similarities to codes of other IR systems. I have had the issue you describe with other IR remotes for my TV and some other audio equipment. It's not particular to Aiyima, unfortunately, and to resolve it would require Aiyima having a database of every other IR remote system's coding, and finding codes that were unique to them. I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen any time soon. My BT seems to work just fine, it only connects to sources it has already paired with, as far as I can tell.
    All in all, I am very pleased with my purchase, and hope that Aiyima fixes what appear to be quality control problems. One thing that does come to mind is that I recall reading on a review somewhere; a user had asked Aiyima about the clicking, and their reply was that it was an intentional design they added, as the TI amp chip doesn't do that natively. Perhaps some enterprising engineer will figure out what activates that circuit and come up with a simple mod to eliminate it???

      I literally had the same scenario - saw Randys video went out and got (the Douke Audio St-01 in my case - same thing) Then saw the OTHER video that Sean Posted - and was anxious as well! In fact I feel like I have been looking for things wrong this amp - but I cant find any. I get the clicking every once in a while if Im not using the amp and left it on - it actually reminds me to turn it off! Other then that its been great. I plan on making a full review video about it.

    • @davetelling
      @davetelling ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PiecesofVinyl What is interesting is that I've noticed that when I have the amp plugged into my laptop, using it as a USB sound card, when I'm working in Audacity doing sound editing, there is sometimes a small delay until the amp kicks on when I start playing a track, but if I'm in Amazon music, as soon as I select a track to play, I hear the amp kick on. Apparently some function tells the amp that sound is coming! The Audacity issue is not really a problem for me, but IO can see how some would see it as make or break issue. I've been using mine pretty regularly for a while now, and it is just a great-sounding little amp.

    • @greenalien8503
      @greenalien8503 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@ArczAngel I have the normal, not the pro,
      If you read the manual of their latest shipments (I got mine from Amazon a few days ago), you'll see that the "M1" button on the remote disables the auto mute function, so when the music or audio gets to a period of silence longer than 10 seconds, it won't click anymore or cut out the audio
      You still hear the click when you switch inputs, but not during actual listening, so you won't hear that intermittent random clicking when watching a movie or when it's hooked up to your computer.
      And yes, after the amp is powered off and powered back on again, it saves the setting and keeps the "auto mute" feature disabled
      Also for those of you who don't own a T9 and have not heard this clicking sound in person, I should note that the clicking sound is just a mechanical relay sound coming from the T9 box itself. The click sound does not get played through the speakers

    I don't know about the Aiyima T9, but according to Douk Audio's eBay store, "doukmall", the company has fixed the issue for the Douk Audio ST-01 and the Douk Audio ST-01 Pro. "Add a M1 button on the remote control of ST-01 and ST-01 PRO, to turn on and off the function that it will auto enter mute mode when there is no signal input for 10s."

    For those who are curious, a few days ago Aiyima announced the updated T9 PRO. Here are the electronic differences in the new model:
    TPA 3250 Power Amp Chip (unchanged)
    100W x 2 (unchanged)
    DC 18V to 32V (note says: Power will be more sufficient)
    Tube is now a JAN5725
    Display screen & VU Meter.
    Display Spectrum
    Bluetooth is now QCC3031, Bluetooth 5.0, Apt-X HD
    Decoding Chip is now ES9018K2M
    OP amp Chip is now DSP Sound Chip
    MCU chip is now NJW1194
    PC-USB is now SAS9123L (24bit/192Khz)
    Inductance is now Phase Mode Choke (from Winding Inductance)
    Single chip Microcomputer is now the AT32F421K8T7
    and finally, they put some blingy gold rings around the meter and display.
    So, the old one had only a VU Meter, the new one has two round displays, VU meter, and now a digital display.
    Controls are now digital, so no mechanical Bass and Treble. The specs suggest not really an update, but an entirely new model. How does it sound? What about longevity? Clicking sounds?

  • @13_13k
    @13_13k ปีที่แล้ว

    I've had my T9 for about 2 weeks and I bought it for my small bedroom and it works fine for what it is. The only issue I have with it is the Bluetooth connectivity. I live in an apartment building and one day after work when I turned on the T9 and the integrated amp I am running the T9 through, I then reached for my phone to start my music player, but I heard music coming through my speakers and I hadn't turned the Bluetooth or the music player on. The T9 picked up a neighbor's BT signal and there is no way to select or prioritize which BT signal that the T9 connects to. It just grabs the first one it encounters. I wrote Aiyima to ask if they have a work around or if they have plans to have a passcode written into the software so only the holder of the code can connect and they said no to both questions.
    I figured that those of us that could encounter this problem should make sure your device must be on with the BT signal already sending out first, then turn on the T9 and it should connect to you since the closer stronger signal will get connected. Seems to work so far doing it that way.

    • @ForeverAnalog
      @ForeverAnalog  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s wild about the Bluetooth. Thank you for sharing!

    • @13_13k
      @13_13k ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ForeverAnalog --- you know, it never crossed my mind that there wouldn't be a way to prioritize which BT signal the T9 receives.
      I thought maybe there was a way but I wasn't figuring it out. That is when I wrote Aiyima and got that very surprising reply that there was no way to control the BT connection AND they thought my suggestion for a password or code was a good idea but they had no plans of any such changes for the future as of now.
      I'm no electronics or computer guy, I'm just a 30 yr experience electrician but I would imagine it couldn't be much work to program a code into the device that only the owner would have and it has to match the devices for them to pair up. I guess that would raise the cost of the T9 and crush their profit margin. Hahahahaha

      @@ForeverAnalog ---- I agree with all your points. It would be the logical way to get a cheap product on shelves and to deal with issues in the next production run. My unit is part of the new stock after they sold out on Amazon recently and the issues people were having prior to that time were the clicking noise and something I can't remember right now but I don't have any other problems so far.
      It can't just be my T9 doing this, it has to be all of them, I would think every unit would do the same thing.
      You could check it by having a phone with its music or a podcast playing with its BT on in another room close by and then turn on the T9 and another device's BT with music or whatever and it will pair with whichever signal it receives first and there is no way to change it. They all must do the same thing.

      @@ForeverAnalog I have purchased a Aiyima T9 to power the audio side of my computer/gaming system. To reduce extraneous noise I keep the computer and associated fans in a different room. I pass all the required cables through a small hole in the wall to run the screen etc. in my actual leisure room. The T9 will live in the computer room so it is unlikely I will hear a relay click.
      Therefore, knowing the 'click' is an amp side problem, my mood has improved.

      @@ForeverAnalog I've been using my T9 for a while now and these are my thoughts.
      I like the T9. Plenty of power for my application and clear as a bell. I used the usb connection with no issues at all.
      The 'click power saving' problem is interesting. I am unable to hear the 'click' as the amplifier is in a different room, but I find if I have had no sound for a while (more then 10 seconds), I lose the first 1/2 second of new sound. Mostly unnoticeable if it's action or music, but a voice may have the first word cut in half. To me not too much of an issue. A good chance I wouldn't have noticed if I was not forewarned. If the power saving started after 30 seconds, then even less of a problem.
      A benefit of the power saving is the silence issuing from the speakers when the power saving clicks in. A funny thing, and small, but I think it's awesome. No idle hum, not that there was much in the first place.
      I would purchase the T9 again.

    15:16 No, that's just expectation bias based on equipment cost. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean to say it's rubbish. There's a lot of very expensive hyped up rubbish out there, together with a great deal of denial by those who've parted with good money for it. The sooner audiophiles lose the "it's only good if it's expensive" snobby attitude, the sooner we get more good gear at sensible prices. This is also why pro audio equipment by the likes of Benchmark and RME is priced sensibly: audio engineers are not audiofools.
    16:20 The pre-amp section is active and buffered by the tubes, so they are part of the pre-amplification. The Class D part of the amp is its power amplification section and if you wish to use the T9 as a pre-amp only, you use the line in (not any of the digital inputs) and line out.
    16:35 And who would spend that amount of money, I wonder, on an amplifier who's design had been matured decades earlier (no R & D) and who's cost (including components and assembly) would probably sum to £200?
    I find that what "makes" the T9 is its pre-amp section; the DAC section's nothing to write about and I'm not bothered about the power amp section. Feeding the T9 with output from an Arcam rDAC into and into an Arcam Alpha 9P power amp produces astonishingly good results, better than using an Arcam Alpha 7R as pre-amp to the Arcam 9P.

    Thanks for the information. Looks like these amps are a little hit and miss as to the quality you get. The GE 5654w Tubes are pretty good as are NOS 6AK5's. There are considerable substitutions with tubes available. Just do research as some tubes are expensive. As far as warranty, Amazon have to abide by the legal requirements in the consumer laws for your country, so if you buy from Amazon or similar place you will have at minimum your legally binding warranty.

    @jamessherman7492 ปีที่แล้ว

    My questions - what is the purpose of the tubes in a class-D amp, and if this takes digital in, then it contains a DAC - can we get that briefly reviewed? People sometimes treat 'digital in' as just another input, when it really means you're buying a DAC along with everything else. Let's hear about the DAC chipset and performance, which can be a big deal depending on how you use the unit. Otherwise, loved the review, thx.

    • @ForeverAnalog
      @ForeverAnalog  ปีที่แล้ว

      The tube is acting as a buffer. Lots of fun arguments in the world as to whether or not buffers really sound like a proper tube set up. I haven’t used this amp much since reviewing but I recall it didn’t sound anything like my Primaluna tube preamp which is not surprising.

    I own one of these for use with my PC and while the 'clicks' don't annoy me, the 10 second auto standby does as it takes the T9 a few seconds to restart playback. I am always missing the first few seconds of recordings/conversations when it resumes playback. This can be particularly annoying when using video messaging programs like Skype. Also, the 100W into 4ohms and 50W into 8ohms may not be accurate as Aiyima often rate the power output at 10% distortion.

      @@ForeverAnalog I also have an Aiyima A08. This is a pure Class D amp with DAC which I feel sounds better than the T9. However my example has two issues. The first is there is a bit of noise on start up that disappears after around 20 seconds to a persistent 'tick' from the speakers. I have managed to reduce this noise by routing the internal mains wires a bit better and placing the op-amps on chip blocks. I am currently waiting on some replacement op-amps in the hope it solves the issue completely. The other problem is with USB input which has the occasional stutter and cuts out momentarily. I am not sure if this is a buffering or driver problem but there are no software updates to correct it.

These three amplifiers are all.from the same factory in China. Aiyilma T9,Fosi T 20 and probably a few others. The power supplies are close in voltage. As to details. No they aren't that similar. Thee Aiyilma T9 has a warmer sound and is very detailed in the mids.And as to your comparing them with other amps. Remember the speakers are never the total reality.
