    Hi, Nancy from NJ here. Just a tip for bottom up sweater length. Measure a sweater/shirt that you like the fit of and knit to that length.

    Just found your podcast and really enjoy watching you. I just came back from being in Nashville for 5 days and visited Haus of yarns. I was so excited to find the store and can’t wait to knit with all the Nashville yarn I got. I show the yarn on my last podcast episode. I loved Nashville. So glad I found your podcast ❤

    I love the ‘nerdy’ knitting talk - thank you. I love seeking out interesting yarns and learning more. I live in Melbourne Australia and my husband John is a Southerner. Copenhagen airport has the most beautiful parquet floor. A good Norwegian breakfast will keep you going for sometime and yummy. G-uld is a wonderful place to visit and the wool is heavenly. Happy travels ❤

    Love your podcast..looking forward to hear about your trip and see all the yarn you purchased. Take a foldable bag for yarn...put it under your airplane seat. Not sure how much postage would be to mail it.

      Thank youuuu!!! Yes, I think this is my plan but then I think I’ll also take some of those compression bags to cram as much yarn in there as possible!!!!!!!!

    Like your video very much! Nice projects! I don`t like knitting bottom up either... Did it just in my Síðsumarskápa. I then always do a provisional cast on at the sleeves and start after the ribbing. When I try the finihed garment, I can pick up the stitches and knit a few rounds more and then do the ribbing till it is perfect. when I first tried on my Síðsumarskápa, the bodylength was too long. 🤐 Because of the colourwork I had to do surgery and put the stitches on a needle and removed 10 cm and put it together again with kitchener stitch. Very annoying, but now the length is perfect! But I think a provisional cast on is the best for bottom up. Greetings from Hamburg in Germany
    Nicola

      Yes! I was thinking about a provisional cast on for my next bottom up knit. I think it will really help me judge the length better. I imagine it would make it much easier to adjust.

    I was watching whilst knitting a swatch. I don't normally knit swatches, it really depends on what I'm knitting. Aside from ensuring a good fit of the final piece. I find knitting swatches can help on colour choice, as well as practicing unknown stitch pattern. Both is what I'm doing unsure of my original colour, so swatching that plus two additional colours, plus practicing the fisherman's rib, as I haven't knitted in the stitch below previously.

    • @Knitweekend
      @Knitweekend  ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually really enjoy swatching. I tend to swatch if my current project feels a bit stale. That way I get a little taste of something else and I’m ready to roll on the next cast on straight away!

    Copenhagen! Norway! I will admit to being jealous, here. Have a wonderful trip and we will look forward to hearing all about your yarny adventures when you return. 😊 I am currently knitting an all-over colour work sweater in Cascade 220 Fingering, but no hard feelings! 😂

    I just so love all the beautiful garments you are making. I hope you have a wonderful trip! I am so excited about all the yarny goodness you are going to get to see! I have my fingers crossed that my dear husband and I will be able to make a dream trip next year to Germany for 4 weeks! Our son is stationed there and there is so much I want to see! Architecture, history and of course all things yarn and knitting!

      Thanks for popping in, Liz! As my friend Tina mentioned in an early episode comment, it’s easy to get stuck in a pattern feedback loop. I think I’ll make the pattern highlights a regular fixture on the channel. Hope you’ll subscribe and be back next time!!

    Hi from Norway! I lived in all the cities you are going to. Tromsø has turned into quite a tourist trap, I've heard, but still the most beautiful. I recommend the small isles of the Oslofjord (easy access) and generally out of the centres. If you haven't watched The Strikkechick podcast (Tromsø), I really recommend her! The parks in Oslo will be nice this time of year (Vigeland and St.Hanshaugen among others). I hope you have a very nice trip!

    • @Knitweekend
      @Knitweekend  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My husband chose Tromsø. I was hoping he would choose Trondheim or the Lofoten Islands. But you know what, I’m just excited to see ANYTHING ANYWHERE. I have Vigeland on my list but I hadn’t heard of St. Hanshaugen. Thanks for the recommendations! I will look it up.

    When storing yarn, use some sort of bag that you can remove all the air out of. That is how I store my yarn in my house.

    That Joanna Ang jumper is beautiful! I'll definitely explore more of her patterns in the future. I've never knit a saddle shoulder construction, but I really like how that fits. Don't apologise for showing too many FOs, it's very motivating. I'll definitely try the steam-iron trick for buttonbands in the future - it's such a pain to pick up stitches when the stockinette curls. Lovely podcast, I hope you have a wonderful time in Norway!

    • @Knitweekend
      @Knitweekend  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well you inspired me to put it on. Her patterns are just wonderful. I’m so glad I thought to steam block it. I’m not even quite sure why I did other than that I was trying to measure for my button holes and got annoyed with the edge rolling. It will definitely become my go to technique before I pickup stitches from now on.

    Love the shoulder and arm detail of your Koyamae Pullover and Three Days cardigan. Do you have any advice for knitting cables for the first time? Have fun on your trip! 💜

    • @Knitweekend
      @Knitweekend  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!! I’d say (1) pick a small project. My first was a beanie. (2) try both with and without a cable needle to see which you’d like best. (3) use a wool with some good grip to it… avoid a superwash or alpaca . A lot of people like a really round wool for cables but I’ve found I prefer a woolen spun yarn with some loftiness.

      Thank you Carla! I wasn’t sure how to really speak to that in this setting. But I appreciate your acknowledgment. Our city is grieving and hurting in so many ways right now. What can sometimes feel impersonal is really not so much. Thanks for spending some time with me!
