    I don't sail but I watch a lot of sailing channels on TH-cam and to me the Amel Super Maramu is the best looking sailboat I have seen. And I assume its pretty fast with all the sails. Plus I like the center cockpit. So if I were going to buy a cruising sailboat, that's what it would be.

    Most impressing is the bond between couples we witness so frequently in your videos - no toilet door or climb over each other at night means something. A life like a student again, all belongings are close - the sound of the fridge, the washing machine. Just as it once was. I find it consoling, that a pile of bucks can bring me back to the cosy close life with my girl. But of course you only show us the not yet divorced cases, right? ;-)

    • @SailingAquarius
      @SailingAquarius  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's just a life. Not perfect, not beautified or otherwise. It would be naive to believe that bigger house will bring marital happiness. Maybe that's what ads try to convince, but not the reality. We don't try to play or pretend what we are not so what you see it as is. You are welcome to make your own opinion

    • @SailingAquarius
      @SailingAquarius  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure I would do the NW Passage in anything less than 400 foot, but I haven't really done any research on NW Passage. I am sure some people would say No Problem, but others would say you need a Aluminum or Steel boat for this type of passage.

    Jin heavy wind you use the motor to move forward. Not the windlass.

    • @SailingAquarius

      We would never pull the boat forward with the windless on purpose. Use the motor and keep the pressure off the windless.

    Thanks Ken for another great tour of a superb looking Super Maramu - especially one focused at those of us who are looking at buying into your elite little club. JP has done a great job bringing Eleuthera into the 21st century and I quite like some of the additions he's done (the white countertops, ceiling lining and cushions really make a huge difference) - especially bringing the control panels along side the water maker controls. I've been keeping a list of potential upgrades that I will make to mine when I get it (including many that you and JP highlighted on your respective tours) when I get it and have a few new suggestions for both of you:
    1) Do the same thing with the mizzen traveler as you both have with the main traveller (I.e. make it controlled by an Anderson winch IN THE COCKPIT) so that you don't have to go out of the cockpit to move the mizzen traveller. The traveller lines are extended and made into a double loop brought to the port rear corner of the cockpit (on the coach top, and the Anderson winch is installed there). I've seen Bill K's boat with this and it is a really great addition that makes so much sense that you wonder why Henri didn't think of it. Hanging out on the stern in big following waves can be a bit intimidating - even on the ample stern of a Super Maramu).
    2) Get a custom made swim platform with integrated ladder that flips up on to the bottom step/rear bumper somewhat like the Amel 54's have to make getting into the boat possible without having to drop the boarding ladder. S/Y Kerpa has one and it looks like a brilliant solution - especially if your stern bumper is getting a bit ratty. I'm sure you could get one made in Asia for peanuts.
    It was great to see JP and Julie after seeing him comment so much on the forum.

    • @SailingAquarius
      @SailingAquarius  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Steve, 1) I am not sure I would do this right away. Yes, there are times when it would be nice, but going out to set the traveller is not a big deal and you really don't do it that often. 2) I will probably get the back bumper redone in Thailand, so it will look nice again. But, you may want to rethink the swim ladder on the back. I was going to get one installed when I first bought Aquarius, but changed my mind, and glad I did. I don't have a ladder on the back, and both Z and I can get into the boat without a ladder. There is a swim ladder on starboard side you can put down if required. Almost every time I think Henri Amel did something stupid, I later figure out why I'm actually the stupid one.... Ken

    Thats my one big complaint about the Amel. THe bow thruster system. They should go with the industry standard.

    • @SailingAquarius
      @SailingAquarius  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually the bow thruster is a very good one, and will last if taken care of properly. Good design, and robust. Easy to fix and maintain if you know what you're doing. If not, you can mess it up like I did. Then come back to fix it. Cost..... To carry spares to basically rebuild your bow thruster is about $1000USD. That would be rebuilding everything that goes into the water. And, you can do it yourself where ever you are. Try that with another brand.

  • @robertlee8042
    @robertlee8042 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    When you make a passage you want nothing on the foredeck. You should deflate it and store it but if you want it on a deck put it under the ,mizzen boom.

    • @SailingAquarius
      @SailingAquarius  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aquarius is heavy aft, so I like to put everything up front for long passages. For short passages close to shore we usually tow the dinghy, for better visibility. I have seen many Amels with the dinghy on the back for passages, and maybe I'll try it on next passage. Just have to see if the mizzen traveler will be affected by the dinghy on the rear deck. Also, I like staying mid-ship when changing the position of the mizzen traveller. And, sometimes on a nice evening we lay on the back deck and look up at the stars when sailing on calm night. This would be impossible with the dinghy on the back. W'lll just have to see.... Best, Ken

    • @brettharrison2237
      @brettharrison2237 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ken, Amel often say in promotional material, that the lazarette can store dinghies. Obviously they mean deflated? What’s your thought on storing it in the lazarette. What about storing it on davits, with the outboard in the lazarette?
