Still gutted nearly 4 years on that Killarney was cancelled- found out as I stepped off the plane in Dublin- first ever visit to Ireland- hope the dodgy promoter got his just deserts. The people of Killarney were very hospitable and apologetic - especially the tourist board- and I loved touring around the ring of Kerry and Dingle- stunningly beautiful. The hastily arranged Saturday gig in Killarney was great,especially Walking on cars. I also had a memorable day exploring the wonderful city of Cork - great train journey and the museum at Cork Harbour station was an unforgettable experience and continues to have a profound impact on me. Ihave an A level in History yet knew nothing about the catastrophic potato famine, colossal loss of life, all caused by the arrogance of English politicians- some are doing it again in the disastrous nightmare called Brexit. As an ignorant English man I want to unreservedly apologise for the past and present mistakes we have inflicted on the worlds friendliest nation. When I think about my faith, love of music, and spiritual journey I am convinced I have a Celtic soul trapped in an English body! I was recently reflecting on my all time favourite top twenty artists/ bands- apart from the Beatles, Bombay Bicycle club and Chris Rea from England and Steely Dan, Dan Fogelberg and James Taylor- Carole King just missed out- from the USA all the rest are Celtic. In order of choice they are Teenage Fanclub, the Frank and Walters, Runrig, Deacon blue,Gerry Rafferty, Big country, U2, Del Amitri, Idlewild, John Martyn, Amy McDonald, the Alarm, Iona and Hothouse flowers. My favourite place in the world is Iona, closely followed by the stunningly beautiful Gower peninsula and Kerry,Dingle, Killarney. The Irish are the friendliest, most hospitable people in the world, although I suspect NZ might run them close. I have been campaigning on FB to swap all our MPs,members of the Lords, plus the following English National treasures - Dench,Smith,Coleman,Fry, Attenborough, Beckham, McCartney and Jagger for Jacinda Ahern, the brilliant and courageous NZ pm. Her response to the ego that is Trump was brilliant - how can The might and power of the USA help you? “ Sympathy and love for all Muslims” .Real leadership - gun laws changed in days,real empathy with the victims and their families and a determination to give no publicity to the killer” I will never speak his name” what a contrast to the mess we are in. Rife anti- semitism and Islamophobia, dramatic increase in race hate crimes, smashing mosques , fire bombing synagogues and dividing families with record levels of poverty.
