She’s certainly is not the fastest drummer on the planet, definitely not the hardest hitter, and there are more educated drummers out there. Even among the females, you’ve got Kanade Sato and Senri Kawaguchi, who are recognized as technically great (and they damn well should be). But this lady from Indonesia is special and my favorite. She has a knack for using everything in her drumset like no one I’ve ever watched. Her groove, tone, and intimate knowledge of all her drums and cymbals sets her apart - and in my mind, way out front.
"Shout, Shout, let it all out - this song says what Kalonika's all about - I'm talking to you!" I cannot even fathom any other drummer playing this song anywhere approaching this level - this is pure perfection. Like all her videos, the tone, the timing, the technical expertise and use of everything in front of her, is flawless. But in this tune, I saw more than her normal emotion - I saw attitude. Kalonica was in a 'special place' and, I'd guess, wishing the song could last another hour or two. And I could have listened to her continue until her arms fell off.
