I can vouch for that, I had one on loan for a weekend & enjoyed every minute. It was every bit as fast as a M135/M235 yet returning genuine 45mpg on long runs... The ride was better than any other 3 series I have experienced yet it somehow managed to feel 95% as sharp as an M3/4 in the twisty bits. £55k is a bargain!
71.5 kgm of torque around 2000 rpm, 23.8kgm per liter and 50mpg fuel eco. That's awesome! The power delivery is good. Combination of high low end torque with less top end power means the car will get into a slide easier, especially with its 2 way LSD. With less power and rpm, the wheel won't spin as fast as the M3 does. That means the car may have an even more controllable drift.
Poor editing, repeated shots, and jumping from scenes of the car at Croft to the b-road scenes and back again makes this video look like a review from 1989.
We need a comparison between a Alpina and a Brabus, should be very interesting to see what are the achievements of those companies compared to their standard cars.
It's good to see that the underlying components of the F30 are still really solid. I've read many reviews of 328i's and 335i's stating that the suspension is too soft and the steering is lacking feedback. With proper tuning, it's still a solid performance car.
Oh my god, I swear, no matter what car channel I go to, this guy is there!! Autocar, auto express, drive, why do people think this guy is the real deal??
Is Steve sponsored by Alpina? He did the same advert on Autocar. £55K for what looks like a 335d with aftermarket wheels and stickers is frankly crazy. About as crazy as the depreciation you will get on it like all other recent Alpinas (speraking as a former Alpina owner)
Because it's a diesel and it costs less than a BMW M3. This one would be perfect as a company car because where I live most companies only letting their employees choose between diesel engines.
nazhif1 Inaudible engine in real world, you really can't hear a diesel engine unless you're fully accelerating. And since this is a 6 cyl diesel, it even sounds very good. It has incredible torque, which means it pulls hard in every gear at every rpm. You'll never have a petrol engine car in 6th gear at 1500 rpm, feel like the car will about to stall judging by the sound, and then floor the throttle and get pushed so hard into the seat you'll feel like you're in 2nd gear. Diesels give you effortless performance. In real world, D3 is faster than M3. You'd have to rev the M3 to redline in order to leave the D3 behind, while D3 would be upshifting at 3500 rpm. On top of that, M3 can't even get close to the fuel consumption figures of the D3.
nazhif1 because its softer, quieter and therefore a more relaxed every day driver. plus its cheaper to run and almost as fast as the m3 (in every day driving probably feels even faster).
Hello everyone , let me confess that I first time have heard this car brand Alpina. It looks fantastic. And if You know which country does this brand belong to ? Please inform me. Thank You.
Best all round car even the image is very good and holding its value well as not many people have an alpina why would you get another car if you had that amount of money to spend obviously if your after an s class interior you might want to look somewhere else.
Make it an estate and remove all the ugly Alpina pieces (and they really do make the car look like it was modified by someone who has no taste), its gonna be a perfect car.
derbigpr500 100 % agree with you, the first thing i thought was that the alpina name on front and the badges were ugly , but the rest of the car(from the exception of the exhaust ) look's like a "sleeper " a fast car that no one notice, and for me that are the best ones. and at the prices of the fuel's in Europe diesel is always welcome
ashherbert26 the bumpers and other little touches are already nice , especially that only somebody that know will notice. for instance, there is an m550d that i see almost every day, and is just a little different to the 6 series, a little more aggressive with the lines, the exhaust on that carbon black look and little more, on first instance you may not notice, but when you start looking at the details you know is a nice car, and for me that is better because it's not a car just to show off, and only the ones that understand a little bit notice
I see the only interior difference is a couple of badges here and there, and the base f30 feels a bit cheap to be honest. Low attention to detail from Alpina, not worth the money.
+o3tomas Massively different; that lavalina leather is something to behold, the blue dials are beautiful at night, oh, just so many things. Interestingly, most of the changes ARE unseen - the engineering is awesome. It would literally need a page to summarise all the work Alpina do regarding the engine, induction and cooling systems, aerodynamics, suspension, engine management system... Anyway, the best way to judge is to drive, and once you've driven an Alpina, you immediately start to 'get it'. :-)
Al Ghaus It's more than a BMW because it's an Alpina. Alpina builds "niche cars" based on BMWs with the help of BMW. Some of them are sold in the US by BMW North America.
Just 350 BHP?? Come on they can do better than that......... shock me, make 450-500 and also why they use the 2.0 diesel instead of the 335d engine (3 litre)
I stopped watching Autocar because of this guy saying exactly the same thing about every car and doing only drifting... Do I need to unsub from this channel too?

Joe Achilles Bargain!!!!, what?
Stutcliffe and Harris are life, no other car journalists can even come close to these guys
Josh Collins Are you forgetting Henry Catchpole, Jethro Bovingdon, Matt Farah, Jonny Lieberman, Jason Plato and so on.
rvind92g Awesome. Glad to see other fans of Jonny Lieberman.
rvind92g Amen. A lot of good guys out there right now.
My dream is to have an Alpina, and this D3 may be the answer. Just perfect for everything.

Brabus isn't a performance company anymore they just do ugly body and interior mods.. For stupid rich people

Sutcliffe, Im now £59k worse off after first watching this video 2 months ago. Roll on December for my D3 Touring delivery!
how is it? :)
@@kwk43 Ive still got it :)
the tuning chips available for this car are just amazing , 70 bhp gain and 160 lb-ft of torque increase ..
Tuning chips?
Great to see Steve again, now just give him some more screen time with more in depth reviews
Collected mine on 1 March. Love it. Just wish I could get the BMW badges off easily
This actual car is currently for sale at Sytner Nottingham.

Definitely not an Alpina owner...
Isnt the M3 limited to 155? And the Alpina will do 190? Big difference there.
M3/m4 can do 190 as well with factory limiter off option, Alpina 174/190
The B3 will do 190, the D3 does 174.
Have you not reviewed this car over a year ago with Autocar?Sutcliffe
This is deffo a machine
For me this is a car you buy second hand. If you can afford a M3/M4 buy one of those but if you can't get a D3
M3/4 3.0 petrol, 431HP and 550Nm, 0-100km/h = 4.1s
But inthis case I'd buy B3 anyway :D
Why would you buy this when you can get an M3/4?
nazhif1 It's a diesel, and got better mileage than M3/M4, and softer as well, which is kinda what you want for daily use.
Because it has very good real world MPG.
Because it's a diesel and it costs less than a BMW M3. This one would be perfect as a company car because where I live most companies only letting their employees choose between diesel engines.

Shame nobody seems to want the Alpina stripes these days, they make a car look ace.
i have the 328d im moding ecu for 260 hp and 450 ft lb torq, everything i need, and 50 mpg.
This guy did exactly the same review when he was at autocar.
Steve is on auto express now?
Samzilla and /Drive
Stuart Price I guess Drive needed someone to replace Chris Harris
I like Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo torque monster unleashed. Hold on tight! - Auto Express
This would make a nice daily driver.
Hello everyone , let me confess that I first time have heard this car brand Alpina. It looks fantastic. And if You know which country does this brand belong to ? Please inform me. Thank You.
@RYAN JONATHAN MARTIN Thank You very much. You are Welcome.
Are we able to buy these in the benevolent country of America?
well, if you LOVE IT TO BITs GO BUY ONE!
Best all round car even the image is very good and holding its value well as not many people have an alpina why would you get another car if you had that amount of money to spend obviously if your after an s class interior you might want to look somewhere else.
Only thing I don't like is the look.
Car Nut well.. it's a bmw, they always were kinda ugly, except maybe e46 and e39, those were ok-ish.
DGRWPF It's just the Alpina bits I think, the standard M5 and M6 GC are fantastic looking cars.
Make it an estate and remove all the ugly Alpina pieces (and they really do make the car look like it was modified by someone who has no taste), its gonna be a perfect car.

Tiago Mano in my opinion it adds to a slightly dull 3 series and makes it look a bit more special

derbigpr500 srsly? wtf is wrong with the 335d touring?
MrMrMrCaf
that it only comes in xd and the supension on alpina's is better then on the normal bmw's. this includes even the new m3/4.
nice car! no specs though...
just buy yourself a 335d with a good chip or remap and you'd save yourself a whole lot of money, job done
Not the same, dumb comparison
The normal msport body kit looks better than this imo
I see the only interior difference is a couple of badges here and there, and the base f30 feels a bit cheap to be honest. Low attention to detail from Alpina, not worth the money.

German Engineering 👍💪
I dont get it , isnt this jsut a BMW?
Al Ghaus It's more than a BMW because it's an Alpina. Alpina builds "niche cars" based on BMWs with the help of BMW. Some of them are sold in the US by BMW North America.
***** oh thanks. Was really confused at first
Who's watching in January 2016
if its that better to drive, y cant they make it to look better.
looks EXACTLY like a 3 series.
Siddhartha Nomula Weren't you supposed to have given up all worldly possessions anyway? Why do you care?
leloodallasmultipass haha.. It took time for me to get!
Siddhartha Nomula hopefully, it was worth it;)
Just 350 BHP?? Come on they can do better than that......... shock me, make 450-500 and also why they use the 2.0 diesel instead of the 335d engine (3 litre)
+7 Billion Assholes I take that back 350 is quite a lot lol.
+7 Billion Assholes D3/D4 are almost so fast on the track as m3/m4 with 350hp, because of torque. What would be after remap to 420hp?
The current D3 does use the 3 litre engine. 350 doesn't sound a lot, but its the same as a 997 S, with more Torque....and far more MPG!
I stopped watching Autocar because of this guy saying exactly the same thing about every car and doing only drifting... Do I need to unsub from this channel too?
MrCorgh I do empathise somewhat. That's car journos for you. What can you do?
Sorry, but I just DONT like Alpina style.
I'd rather just have the new 340i...
Just get the cheaper 330d/335d in m sport, just as fast and it looks better
